In 2014, Rob Gronkowski had one catch every four games, on average, of a ball thrown in 20+ yards in the air.

Thats actually not what I said at all, and I'm pretty sure you knew exactly what I am talking about. If you dont understand how its possible to add more guaranteed money to a contract while reducing a cap hit, then just move on.

How does adding more guaranteed money reduce the cap hit? You are just making things worse in the future.

The Patriots aren't one of the couple of teams Wallace could hope to live up to his salary with. They're clearly basing their offense on short passes at this point.

That makes two top notch WRs that this coaching staff could not adapt to .What a waste of resources .Maybe we should get rid of the coaching staff because the players and the fans cant adapt to them.

You can't really compare Brandon Marshall and Mike Wallace, especially in terms of the coaching staff needing to "adapt" to them.

It became Pat Surtain and then Ronnie Brown. Take the name off, and it was a great jersey!

By the same token, however, the coaching staff took a 4th-round receiver (Brian Hartline) and had him produce at the equivalent of three, thousand-yard seasons in a row on a yards-per-target basis, as well as a 2nd-round receiver (Jarvis Landry) and had him produce among the league leaders in several categories as a rookie.

What does that say, perhaps, about the coaching staff, and the personalities of the various receivers involved?

What it says to me is that if you aren't a diva, and you have the ability, you will certainly be put in a position to succeed in Miami.

It also helps if stretching the field and getting open deep isn't your forte.

Yet another player that Philbin doesn't get along with, so we have to ditch him. I think it might be time for some introspection on his part.

How does that relate to whether a receiver can fit in with the coaching staff and be put in a position to succeed on the team?

If we can somehow manage to get someone to take wallace (unlikely), and he "suddenly" starts catching deep TD passes in stride it will be funny to see the Tannehill good ol' boys club make excuses.

What will also be interesting to see is whether his replacement does significantly better than Wallace did in Miami, even though he may not have anywhere near the reputation as a downfield threat.

And that'll be expected, actually, since Brian Hartline did significantly better downfield in 2012, catching passes from a rookie quarterback, than Wallace has done in either of the subsequent years, with a more experienced quarterback.

Off the top of my head, week 1 against the patriots. Most other wrs keep their foot in bounds. Wallace couldn't. Then against the jets tannehill throws deep left, woulda been a td but Wallace barely even tries. Just did a one handed thing.

Well it's unfortunate that you're not making yourself very clear. You seem to be of the belief that the Dolphins can reduce their cap hit from Wallace's contract simply by shifting money around and guaranteeing portions of it. This is a fallacy. You can reduce the cap hit in any one year this way. You cannot reduce the total sum cap hit for the remainder of the contract unless you take money out of the contract.

I think you need to brush up a little bit on the salary cap. I don't think you're showing a very good understanding of how it works.

    Well away from here
Ask him to help Mike with his bags as they are both heading to the airport. And, since they would be both unemployed it would make sense to carpool in the hopes of saving some money.

There are multiple people in the Dolphins organization besides Joe Philbin that would have reason to want to see Mike Wallace go elsewhere. Player, coach, front office, etc.

Trading Mike Wallace is not so bad, but only if they have a solid plan to proceed afterwards. No Legedu Nanee crap. Forget about the return for the trade, anything you get for that awful contract is a win, but freeing up all that cap money is a huge bonus for this team.
Suppose you get a 7th rounder for him, then you're free to pursue another FA, say Jeremy Maclin if he becomes a FA, for maybe 6-8M per season. You just replaced Wallace for Maclin and saved some money out of it, got a 7th round pick too. Cut Hartline too, or ask him to take a paycut, get another WR in the draft, and now you've overhauled the WR position with younger and cheaper players.

I've no faith in the Dolphins coming out of this with a good result though. Cutting Wallace is absolutely dumb. Cutting Wallace would be the 2nd dumbest thing this team will do concerning Wallace. 2nd only to giving him that stupid bloated contract.

Getting rid of Wallace unless we somehow replace him with talent and even then is a mistake. Receivers who score 10Tds get paid lots of money. That's their job.

    http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/rankings/wide-receiver/

receivers get paid lots. The one everyone should be pissed about is Hartline making 7 mil for crap. That's who should be cut not Wallace. Just plain stupid.

Wallace is overpaid, but the Hartline 7 mil salary is just silly.

In fairness to BH, he was pretty damn crucial until Lazor came in with a different system. Nobody should be pissed at BH for that. If it's time for him to move on, that's fine, wish him well.

Wallace is getting paid what 10TD receivers get paid. That's just a fact. Does anyone think Maclin or Torrey Smith or Dez Bryant are going to take less than 10mil a year?

BH did his job yes, but the problem with him has always been, he has no clue how to find the endzone. We can find tons of receivers who can get us yards but can you score?

Sounds like Wallace wants out and that was evident after the lunch with Hickey, if he doesn't want to be here then you have to try and get something for him albeit not likely.

Wallace will be able to choose his system and his QB after he is released, one has to shake his head in pity if he goes to Indy and joins Andrew Luck.

Could see Wallace and Hartline let go and replaced with guys like Mike Williams and/or Santana Moss.

I'm not so sure they're up for it. I think they're going to steer toward guys they have experience with, and/or guys they know what they're going to bring to the table. And I'm not sure they want to spend on this position. I think they're drafting it and shooting for everyone to mature by 2016.

Seattle would have to be creative with the cap to get him, INDY has money...and tbh I don't necessarily like the WR core they have right now. You have Hilton then not much else, Wayne was playing poor when he was healthy and I think Moncrief is a much poorer mans Wallace.

This is exactly what I'm worried about. We were already looking for a better #2 receiver. Now we keep the crappy one we had and look for a new #1. Seriously a joke. It really pisses me off that our coaching staff can't work with talented but maybe hard minded guys. We keep getting rid of good players in positions of need.

I think it is ridiculous. Keep Wallace one more year - we can handle the cap. He will be a deep threat and bridge to the next era. Draft or sign a more all around WR. But hartline is worthless. If Wallace is cut, we still need, IMO, two WRs!!! And this offense needs more big play weapons not fewer!!! I will be one of those disappointed fans. This organization is still at the lower echelon in the league, IMO.
