something i found in another forum www.phinfever.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=37564 i really would like to keep lemon he can help us AS A BACKUP
If parcells thinks lemon is the man then he should start packing his bags now because lemon is not a winner ....period.
Didn't Parcells come when Quincy Carter was the QB . . . they had a pretty good season w/ him . . . maybe Bill has a niche for QB's like Lemon and Quincy . . . . I mean Lemon knows the offense . . . can't just get rid of him . . . especially when there is nobody right now to replace him
Ahh, Cleo "Bonehead" Lemon, he is a sort of symbol of Cam Cameron's tenure so far, just athletic enough to show a flash of possibility, but that is quickly snuffed out on the next series of downs... People may forget that Cleo really hasn't played much, as in maybe 7 games as a starter..in total...we could do worse, we can do better just like Vanilla Yogurt.... To be honest, I would not mind Cleo Sticking around, but not for starter money.
Parcells is not in the business of destroying players confidence. Of course hes gonna say some nice things about the guy whose starting QB for the team he works for. It's just common sense.
If Cameron is retained, then Lemon is an ideal backup. He's familiar with the system, has the respect of the players--at least, had it until last night--and can come in from the bench and execute the plays.
I thought so too, until yesterday's game. I have lost any confidence I had in Lemon. If Parcells keeps him then he sees something I don't.
Funny thing, noodle arm Pennington is averaging more yds per completion then Lemon is 6.7 to 5.7.....Cleo's rating is 69, Pennington is at 89 or so... Lemon is just a back up, maybe with more playing time he can improve, the Bengals game is "gut check" time for Cleo, he either steps up and erases the memory of the pilon, or he plies his trade elsewhere.....
Excellent post! I am no Lemon fan but at the start of next year, if Cam is still around, he's the one who is going to know the offense the best. Only problem is with Lemon at the #2, where does that leave Beck? #3? Certainly not #1 I would think.
Undoubtedly, that is "why" Pennington is being discussed, he is under contract, but many feel that he will be cut...the list of Fa QB's is not a very good one, Chris Redmond's and Culpepper's...slim pickings indeed, and a low round QB with all of our Lineman needs also seems like a long shot as well. This is where we fans have to hope that either Mueller or Tuna and his staff, can find someone for us, I for one do not want to head into 2008 with Beck and ???? as our QB's.
I wouldn't want Pennington. He has a noodle arm. We don't need any more lame duck Fiedler type passes.
I doubt he will be, his numbers aren't terrible, and he works pretty cheap for a QB in the NFL. Lemon may be our best option for a back up, but we cannot overpay for a QB like him. Man, even before 2008 starts, we are up against the same old "Curse of Marino"...
LOL! The guy hasn't even had an official PC yet to be introduced at his new job and ALREADY people are calling for his head. This has got be a record! Well, I guess it's time to start the "Parcells is a moron" threads.
Parcells is saying all the right things at the moment. He's not going to try and create controversy. Heck, his presence on this team alone is enough, for now. He wont shake things up until sometime early in the offseason.
I don't think that will be the case at all, we will have a pretty active offseason and that is always interesting....several trades in the works, the #1 overall pick which means the BCS game will be worth watching just to see Dorsey and Gholston and then we have the Combines to look at...should be fun.. Quick question, it's 2:00 am on Christmas Eve, here we are obsessing about the Fins, how many folks think Cam or even some of his staff is up at this hour of the night reviewing game films of the Bengals? And Lemon may be the least worst option...that is the state of the Qb in the Nfl at the moment, let's not forget that Joey Harrington and Culpepper both ended up starting for their new teams...and playing just as bad there, unless of course, they played us this season..
According to my calculations you refuse to say anything negative about Beck. I think "hope" is clouding up"reality" on your part. I`m not bashing you by no means,in fact, your posts are usually insightful but your take on Beck thus far is purely speculation. You claim beck has good pocket presense. I beg to differ unless of course you meant "presents" instead of "presense" then it would make sense. Quick example- When Beck is back to pass and he fumbles the ball away again he gave a d-lineman a "pocket present".
Firstly, NO. Second he has already stated he is not trading for a QB. 3rd Brady Quinn has never played an NFL down. I don't get the man love for Brady Quinn.
And Rookies never make mistakes. You put a guy who is rookie in the worst offense in the NFL and give him zero protection and the all the offensive woes are his fault. Some people will never get it. It's the same old "Ronnie Brown" argument. We had a divided camp half says he doesn't have the "IT" factor. Then you get him some decent blocking and miraculously he has "IT". You have to put a guy in situation where he can have success. We wanted to see somethng special out of Beck so bad we egnored the fact this team has zero talent on offense. Our run blocking has been pretty good at times but we haven't protected our qb's at all. Get over it. Right now BECK isn't the problem. He will get his shot to prove himself whether or not you like it.
.... The point is your hating on Lemon when he has no weapons.... Lemon has extended plays with none of his receivers getting open.... Beck just gets sacked and just looks absolutley awful... Beck looks scared out there...
Lemon isn't bad but he's already been in the league for 4 years. He upside is what you see. I don't dislike Lemon he does give us the best chance to win. With our lack of protection you better be able to run. The problem is he doesn't run when he should and does when he shouldn't. During the PAts game he could of ran in for tds twice. He's too indecisive. I honestly don't know what Beck brings, and neither does anyone else here. To say other wise only proves how little you know about this game.
Romo was the same way... What's your point??? Romo wasnt use to it last year but he also had weapons and when he moves around he finds his receivers getting open... Good Receivers do that... The reason why Lemon doesnt run is because he's like Romo he's looking to make the big play he wants to find an open receiver.... You know absolutley nothing on the game Beck sucks and you keep defending him
The argument that "Beck is bad so Lemon is good" is a false one, Lemon's problem is he is not accurate..at all...he can throw better on the run then in the pocket, a function of his athleticism, as a pocket passer though...Cleo is just too scattershot, he almost got Dave Martin killed with high throws Sunday. Lemon also is not very experienced, I really do think people need to keep that in mind, he has started maybe 8 games and he has all of the inconsistencies of a young QB.
I have no problem at all letting Beck prove himself. My problem is The Beck-Backers who refuse to admit this guy showed NOTHING thus far and who continue to have the need to treat him with kid gloves . I NEVER said I hope Beck fails miserably I only stated the obvious which is he is light years away from being our QB- BASED SOLELY ON HIS PERFORMANCE THUS FAR. If you people want to hug this guy on hype alone, fine, be my guest. For the rest of us lets pray we draft a QB just in case this guy is a bust. I would be singing an entirely different tune if Beck showed the least bit of hope. Lets not forget this guy isnt exactly a kid who has years ahead of him to develop. How anyone can be satisfied with our QB situation is beyond me. Get real folks- if Beck doesnt improve DRAMATICALLY and we dont draft a QB,we`re in serious troble.
