I think if Heath Evans went a little lighter on his proclamations and bringing the douchy New England attitude with him, he'd probably be a lot easier to watch. His on air persona doesn't do him many favors. I'll take this particular instance as him "shock posting" to ramp up a slow sports news period.

His comment that even if Jordan got 18 sacks he wouldn't be worth the pick is what got people riled up. Had Jordan gotten 18 sacks I really doubt anyone would be complaining about the pick or how the coaching staff was using him.

I don't agree with his point at all. But he's not basing it on nothing. Marino has a reputation (totally undeserved, IMO) for not really making decisions based on intelligent interpretation of the interplay between offense and defense. He just "picked a guy and let it fly".

I've seen stupider crap said about Dan Marino by intelligent, thoughtful members of this very Dol-Fan forum.

Which is dumb because his point was incredibly clear. His point was that Dion Jordan was going to be a part time player because of his strenght-weakness profile so even if he made that part-time count by getting a bunch of sacks, he's still making zero impact on at least half of plays because he's not even on the field.

I mean here are the things that I know that Heath Evans has said about the Dolphins:

    1. Loves the Ryan Tannehill pick. Loves it. Gushes over it.
    2. Hated taking Dion Jordan at #3 overall. Part-time player. An edge rusher, which isn't the type of rusher that bothers Tom Brady.
    3. Strongly disliked the overpay for Mike Wallace. Didn't think he ran a full route tree, saw him as an underperformer.
    4. Really disliked ditching Karlos Dansby in favor of Dannell Ellerbe.

How is he not 4 for 4 on these things?

Oh , while I dont agree with the sentiment, if he had left it at Dan Marino, at least there would have been some....semblance of logical thought.

But to say that about Joe Montana?..Thats the part that is just mind boggling to me

I don't think this makes him a good analyst, and again his issues are far deeper than not liking a Dolphin move or 2.

If Evans made the point you are making I don't think people would have been as upset. IIRC, Gruden made a comment very similar to what you are saying about Jordan being a part time player and having to prove he could play every down. But this is what Evans said in regards to Jordan:

Seriously, I guy who gives you 18 sacks in a season is a liability every time he is in the game. That's the very definition of hyperbole.

Hyperbole is hyperbole. It's used all the time. If that's the worst crime you're convicting Heath Evans of, then that's a big time reach.

What he said about Jordan ended up being 100% correct.

Eh....Fullbacks are like children. Should be seen and not heard. Or be left floating in oceans.

7k and 60+ TDs...I fully believe...unless they had a D and had monster leads all the time.

This NFL would sh*t itself if '84 Marino was in it.

That is what makes him GOAT IMO.

With the flag football defensive, offensive player safety legislation of today's game? No doubt in my mind.

And hen your staff can make it so your running backs never fumble, and your tackles can legally/hold maul the speedier defensive ends.

Oh no doubt in my mind.

The fact that Jordan turned out to be a reach was the only thing that he was correct about. The reasons he cited were not. Jordan hasn't had the impact you would expect from the #3 pick but he hasn't been a liability every time he steps on the field. What really got me with his comment about the 18 sacks was that after being called out on it by the other hosts on the show he went on to defend it saying edge pressure wasn't as important as pressure up the middle. Yeah that may be true to a degree but 18 sacks are still going to have an impact on your team. But I feel like we've been down this road before so I'll just let it go at that.

I don't mind Heath Evans as much, just wish he'd drop the Patriots lovefest hidden behind a lot of his comments. He sticks to his guns at least, I just wish the other pundits would hold him accountable for the things he gets wrong. I feel like he's personally compelled to deliver the hyperbole to get his name out there which sometimes cheapens his legitimate analysis. His conference jokes are annoying and old, too. We get it, you played in the SEC. So did Jamarcus Russell.

I don't anymore. Sometimes I'll watch the simulcast radio shows on CBS or FS1, but that's about it. It's nicer reading pieces on the web than watching them on TV. With the content producing opportunities that YouTube provides, there's so much good fragmentation out there if you dig for it. That being said, I will be watching the combine coverage on NFLN. I was flipping around for Flyers' highlights the other day when I passed the two guys on Pardon the Interruption debating whether or not the NFL Combine or a generic dog show was more important. Holy sour grapes, Batman. Someone is mad they don't have the rights to live combine coverage. They both stated how they've barely been watching the combine for the past couple years, but that didn't stop them from blowing their collective loads over Clowney's 40-time last year when that inevitably factored into to the news cycle.

I watch for information, because I love football and not to be entertained, so it doesn't really matter, next four days are exclusive to the nfl network..no choice.

thats why i think there is room for a new type of football channel...wanna go in?
