I said it a year ago, I dont understand her purpose, Ive seen better books out there from teams like the Buccaneers and the Bills, a lot of our contracts has giant dead money tied to them compared to other teams. I just dont get it.

We are maxed out and we dont even have that much talent, and we still have to resign a few players in the future while maintaining giant holes on the team.

She is killing us softly in the front office, she relied too much that the contracts she gave out wouldnpan out and they did not. That would be fine if its one or two players but its a handful of bad contracts on the team that if you cut them you save nothing and theres dead money that comes with it too.

Not necessarily. Wheeler will count toward $4.2M in dead money, but his contract has offset language. So if he signs with another team, his compensation doesn't count as dead money.

Not only that without any moves this season Miami's cap is perfectly fine in 2016.

Miami is not in cap hell.

Because this year is going to need some massaging, it doesn't mean it is going to lead to long term damage.

The cap has been handled well.

The Cap has been handled like crap. We went from being one of the best teams to one of the worst in 2 short years - or should I say since Ireland left. I find that no coincidence. With that being said this article makes some interesting points. Although we could free up 23 -30 mill we would still have to replace those 7 players through free agency and the draft.

Not only would this team be a different team but good luck with that..........It will take years of drafts and a lot or tears to fix it

2016 is at 110 right now with no moves in 2015 yet. So I would expect to kick the can down the road. What I found interesting is other then Banden Albert no one else is listed as under contract in 2017 or beyond - can that be correct?

This offseason, before the team gets about the business of taking steps forward, it will have to take some significant steps back. Players will be cut or asked to take pay cuts to make salary cap room because the Dolphins are scheduled to be about $2 million under the cap otherwise.

And fans that greet this with a cheer must remember this: When you cut a player, the mistake doesn't simply disappear because you typically have to replace him. So resources that might have been used to address another area of need, of which the Dolphins have several, now has to be used to retrace an old step and replace that cut player.

In other words, the Dolphins will be plugging holes they thought they plugged in the past on top of the holes they failed to plug.

So folks saying, "Cut Wallace, cut Ellerbe, cut Wheeler, cut Starks, cut Gibson, etc ..." also have to complete that thought and say, "And draft or sign linebackers, and draft or sign a WR, and draft or sign a defensive tackle and then address the needs the team had before it cut those guys."

That is a lot of work to do in one offseason.

Which leads me to another truth ...

The 2012 Dolphins were a building team. They had holes. They knew it. But despite all that they salvaged a 7-9 record (again, good job by Philbin) and went merrily into an offseason expecting to make an exponential improvement.

The 2015 Dolphins are not a building team. On defense they are an aging team with no obvious stars waiting in the wings to pick up slack much less offer significant improvement. On offense, they are still dealing with obvious holes and may have to deal with more holes depending on salary cap cuts.

The building program that started with such promise in 2012 failed. The team hasn't been to the playoffs. The bonus draft picks are gone. The whopping cap space is gone.

It is going to take a superhuman effort to get better.

The only way it happens is if Tannehill becomes Tom Brady and carries the team on the field while Joe Philbin becomes Bill Belichick and figures out how to maximize talent that other teams dismiss.

Yeah, I don't see both ends of that possibility actually coming to pass.

That's why I'm not feeling too optimistic about the Dolphins today.

the successful franchises have promising young players waiting in the wings to step up and replace vets, but we really don't have that right now, mostly because of poor drafting. I mean we took 2 corners in the first 3 rounds just two drafts ago and yet neither has shown anywhere near enough to instill belief that they can start or even significantly contribute moving forward. Dallas Thomas was a 3rd round pick in the same draft, he should be developing, instead he just joins the long list of horrible offensive lineman Ireland found. Jimmy Wilson is clearly not the answer at safety, we really don't know what we have in Billy Turner, he couldn't even get on the field with Albert hurt and bums like Thomas and Colledge out there. Rishard Matthews looked promising once but who knows if he'll even be back with this staff, with Wallace's recent meltdown he could join Hartline and Gibson on the chopping block, which basically blows up the entire receiving corps. Jordan Tripp is a complete unknown, same with Matt Hazel.

as far as our own pending free agents, Odrick has had multiple sideline blowups with this staff, he might not be too keen on returning, and honestly he's like the 5th best DT on the market anyway, so Miami could just decide to look elsewhere. who knows if we bring Clay back, he might think he's worth more than he is, is Sims good enough to start? Matt Moore's a free agent, are we gonna spend money on a vet backup QB? Louis Delmas is injury prone and coming off an ACL tear.

all three levels of the defense will need MULTIPLE upgrades/additions, and on offense, every unit needs help as well, maybe even QB (if we let Matt Moore walk)...oh and on top of all that we also need a kicker lol....I mean sheesh, there's no way Hickey can fix this mess in one offseason.

Hickey isn't going to fix it in 3 off seasons.

I have said this very thing in multiple other threads and was ignored. It is the hidden Achilles heel of this team moving forward IMO. And will spell the end for Philbin and most likely Hickey.
Most blew it off and Called Aponte a "CAP GURU".

With Wallace gone, and likely a few other FA's, we'll have some cap room with which we can target a few vets for the defense to try and patch it up a bit.

what is all this talk about a hot seat . Ross will never fire Philbin because this is a tax write off team and that is all MR. ROSS is interested in. if fin fans were smart they would boycott the games to send a message to Ross.
