Long won't be average for us because, as most draftniks have said, he'll be a great RT at the least. Sure, we're hanging our hats on him being a good-to-great LT, but to say that he'll only be average for us in one capacity or another is too harsh...

The question and problem for Long is that along with him developing into the LT that we want him to be, he has to deal with the reconstruction of the entire OL. that could hamper his progress, unless one of the younger guys pan out as a top flight RG so that Smiley can do his thing on the left side aiding in Long's development...We'll see how that shakes out, I guess...

1st...Any productivity is better then what we have had in years.

2nd...Please let the man play a game or two before we start judging him.

If he does end up that way I'll have to learn to always trust my first instinct, lol.

We'll see though, he's got a lot going for him. I think my first instinct on him was too nitpicky.

What would be your reasoning for thinking Long will be average at best?? He has never looked average when I have seen him play.

What Jake has shown is that he has: the size, the strength, the work ethic, the technique, and a mauler attitude. I think you throw a good coach at him and you are going to get something far above average.

His college play speaks for itself. He had 2 sacks in four years and only 1 penalty I think. His college highlights I've seen would impress rugby fans even...:shifty:

Ok, why? It is easy to say I don't think he will or wont do this or that. Why?
He hasn't played a down of real football yet. Isn't it a little quick to have doubts already. Give us your reasoning. Not a rehasing of other peoples opinons but a honest assement. He was gonna go top three or four in the draft. If we didn't take him somone else would have and would have been damb glad they did. A lot of the football pundits don't know scquat about football.

If we didn't pick him he would have been picked at 2.

Nah. I'm pretty sure the Rams would have been between Glenn Dorsey and Chris Long no matter what. But, I think the Falcons would have picked up Jake.

I think he could have slipped to five but likely would have been taken by Atlanta like you mentioned.

If he is only average (I don't think he will be) then he will be just as good at LT as Carey and will stay there as such. Average is a lot better than some of the Bozos we have had at left tackle since Richmond Webb left.
I don't think the people who drafted him believe he will be just average and I don't think JL will be satisfied with being just average, but thats JMO.
