So Hollywood finally hit rock bottom and ran out of ideas, so they're redoing every classic movie they think they can money off of. Very rarely has this been done well. They've started screwing with our childhoods by rebooting beloved kids movies/cartoons like Transformers and Ninja Turtles(I hate you Michael Bay) and now, my other beloved franchise, Ghostbusters. Yes, that classic 1984 comedy starring such great comedic actors as Harold Ramis(RIP), Dan Akyrod, Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson, that spawned a sequel and an awesome cartoon series(and action figures!).

Now, for some god-awful reason, they're rebooting it with a whole new story not related to the original, with all-female comedians. Sony, along with Paul Feig, Mr. Bridesmades/Chick Comedy Movie guy, have decided to take a massive dump on MY favorite movie franchise. It was bad enough when they did this with other franchises, but some movies are sacred and should never be redone. Further sequels or passing on to a newer generation kind of thing(even with a female ghostbuster or two), tv series based on the movie, comic books, video games, all that stuff is fine. But completely redoing the story? On what planet has Ghostbusters without Spengler, Venkman, Stanz and Zeddmore as established characters? Not the kind of planet I'd like to live on. You just can't expect fans to be happy with this, even casual fans. Hell I even know alot of people younger than me that have seen Ghostbusters, either because someone older turned them on to it or they caught it on their own while airing on cable or the recent re-releases on dvd/bluray/movie theater. A lot of people are aware of the movie and its characters, and I'm not sure this is a good direction for Sony to go with. It's going to alienate a lot of people with their PC choice of cast. Mind you, I don't have a problem with female comedians/actors. They can be hilarious. Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Jane Krakowski, Samantha Bee, Aisha Tyler, Jillian Bell, Wanda Sykes, they're all very funny IMO. Mellisa McCarthy is not funny. The rest of the cast is [emoji14]ity:. Kristen Wiigs has her moments but meh. This is going to be a dumpster fire crapfest of a movie.

I know this is a long rant and it's probably ridiculous of me to get upset about it(can't wait to see how many of you will tell me to get over it ). But Ghostbusters is/was near and dear to me. It holds a special place in my heart. I know I will always have the original movies and such. It's just, kinda sucks that unimaginative hacks in Hollywood have to mess up a good thing. It happens. So anyway, I'm done with my rant. I'd like to know what the rest of you guys think about this travesty of a movie? Are you ok with it or do you agree with me it's going to be a massive fail?

Hollywood right now is extremely white and extremely male.

Sheesh, it seems every time a black person is cast who isn't some thug or a woman has a leading role someone has to play the, PC card.

    21 Jump Street was awesome.

22 Jump Street is arguably better.

    There is a chance.

Agreed. It also was very self-aware. I'm not sure that would work for Ghostbusters though.

one of my favorite movies as well. but I look at the new cast and see potential. it's rare you have this many women in Hollywood at the same time that are this funny. this one has potential to be pretty good. not as much as the original since that isn't possible, but I think it will be good.

See it on its own merit...try and not think of it as a remake if you can. Dredd with stalone was garbage but the latest one was more than watchable the new Robocop couldn't come close to the origional but on its own merit wasn't a complete crapfest. I am admittedly a very forgiving critic but I try and not prejudge any movies and it seems to work.. my problem is I get overhyped for certain movies that can never live up to my expectations and I set myself up for dissapointment.

I have a huge soft spot for ghostbusters since it was a huge movie during my teens but I'll give the new one a shot and hope for the best.

I seriously doubt it will be any worse than Ghostbusters 2.

Most of your crying is silly. The original still exists. You can watch it whenever you want as many times as you want and this new movie won't effect that at all. In fact, the reboot won't have any impact on your life. Quit being a hipster and get over it. Movies have been getting remade since they were silent, this isn't new.

Here's a Life Pro Tip.....if there's a movie out you don't want to see or upsets you, then, don't go see it. I do it with all Kirk Cameron or Tom Cruise movies and my world has yet to crumble.

Has nothing to do with being PC. A sequel was in development hell for years now. Bill Murray was the hang up as he didn't want to do it. Everyone else was on board. The Ramis died. Then it was Murray, who came up with the idea of changing it up and telling a new story with women at the center.

The bigger issue, is why because there a movie being made with women at the center makes you automatically go to your tired PC cries.

    What you're implying is ridiculous.

I agree. I personally don't think it's a good idea. But if I hear good things then when it comes out on Red Box or HBO I might give it a look.

    1. I don't think GB2 was a bad movie. It wasn't as good as the first and its story was a bit ridiculous, but it was still a worthy sequel. It had its moments while being a bit weaker than the first.
    2. I'm more fearful of the future of the franchise. If this movie bombs, IMO it will have a negative impact on the franchise. People will regard it as a joke.
    3. It will impact our children and our children's children. Is anything sacred anymore?
    4. I'm soooo not a hipster. I don't drink crappy coffee and wear a kifaya. I hate indie rock as much as I hate radio pop rock. I don't buy my clothes from Goodwill and pretend I'm starting a new clothing trend.
    5. I plan on not seeing it. The thought makes me ill. Seeing the star of "Mike & Rolly" ruin my movie with her unfunny presence and Paul Feig basically making a "Bridesmaides 2" out of my beloved franchise ticks me off more than Michael Bay sh*tting on TMNT.

I thought Bridesmaids was funny. If the sequel to Bridesmaid was they all became Ghostbusters, that would be awesome.

Also, what future of the franchise. Ghostbusters 2 came out in 1989. I also disagree that it was sequel worthy. Ghostbusters 2 is pretty bad. I can't think of a time in my life that anyone ever asked me, "Hey, want to watch Ghostbusters 2?" Unless they were joking before we put on Ghostbusters.

Edit: My only complaint is that it is a completely new reboot. I like the franchising idea. Where the Ghostbusters exist, but they franchise out their brand. They could all be retired or dead or whatever.

Outside of Kristen Wiig, I'm not really a fan of the cast. I'm curious as to why they went with an all female cast, rather than creating a more diverse cast, which includes women. I don't have high expectations for the film at the moment, but I'll keep an open mind.

I didn't like Bridesmaids. My wife and I kept watching, waiting for it to get funny since it got such great reviews and whatnot, and it never did. Reminded us a lot of Wedding Crashers, which I found in no way amusing or enjoyable, in that way. Tons of hype, dull movie.

As to Ghostbusters 2, I actually like it a lot. Maybe thats because I saw it in the cinema when I was 11 or 12 years old and its normal to have the warm and fuzzies for things you liked when you were coming of age? I dunno. Still, I think its a fine, enjoyable comedy, even 25 years later.

I like your third idea a lot, and I think that it would have been a great way to go. Same universe, new crew decades later on.

I've never seen Bridesmaids, but several women I know, including my wife, think it's the funniest movie in years.

as far as the reboot, I don't see the problem. many kids today have never seen the original Ghostbusters. I had to sit my kid down and force her to watch it. She enjoyed it once she did, but she hadn't heard of it before then. having said that, the continuation would make more sense, throw in cameos by Murray and co so they could hand off the franchise.

Wiig is one of the funniest people in Hollywood, male or female, IMO. she'll carry the movie.
Leslie Jones can't carry a movie on her own, but she'll supply plenty of stereotypical humor as the 4th ghostbuster as the Ernie Hudson replacement.
McCarthy could be boom or bust addition to the cast.

I think the franchise idea was the best way to go if the original cast couldn't/wouldn't do it. Unfortunately we're getting a whole new story and universe and it's not going to go over well with fans of the movie. Everyone I talked to and everywhere I look online this reboot is getting negative responses. Not seeing anyone getting hyped up for it at all.

yeah, I get that. what I'm saying is that it doesn't preclude this from being a good stand alone movie. maybe not as good as the original, but could certainly be better than GB 2.

    All lady cast? Interesting.

Kinda seems akin to remaking the Joy Luck Sisters Club, only starring Kevin Kostner, Ray Liotta, John Malkovich, Carrot Top and Bob Saget instead of the original cast of Asian ladies.

Hey I got to agree with you again. I saw Bridesmaids with my wife and we both thought it was so-so. Maybe it was because of the huge amount of hype around it and how everyone said how funny and great it was so we were waiting (and waiting) for those funny moments but never came. Then again I might be biased because I really don't find the appeal of Melissa McCarthy at all.

As far as Ghostbusters 2, I like it too. Is it as good as the first movie? No way. But for a sequel its definitely a fun watchable movie. And if it's on TV I'll generally stop to watch it. It's in no way a disaster of a movie or unwatchable.

I hated Wedding Crashers. That movie was terrible.

I was 11 years old when I watched Ghostbusters 2. I also watched it in theaters. I knew then that it was a bad movie. It is kind of enjoyable. I would watch it if I was searching channels and it happened to come on TV and Food Network already had a show I watched. I can't think of one quote from that movie.

I'm much better with this than them remaking Indiana Jones. Chris Pratt is awesome, but why not create something new with him? Although some have wondered if they're going the James Bond route where 007 is replaced by a new one. But that seems odd for Indiana Jones since that is who he was, rather than working for some agency.

At least with this they'll be different characters, and it seems like there is a chance Bill Murray could be in it and it could kind of be like a sequel rather than a remake. Even without him, if they're playing new characters in the same world it might not be bad. That has worked for Planet of the Apes & X-Men (first class & even more when they brought the originals in for DOFP).

IMO, they already recreated Indiana Jones when they did The Mummy.

Also, one thing to remember with that, they did have the young Indiana Jones adventures.
