Pretty much this. They destroyed the tapes from spygate, though those were likely so epically bad as to vacate superbowls and destroy league credibility. In this case, they just have to shoot the one guy and call it a day.

I smell it too, it's pretty pungent. I also see Goodell in the corner turning his cheek the other way.

You might have a point, here I am thinking it will be a legitimate investigation. What the hell am I thinking.? The league might be orchestrating the whole ordeal so it looks like the Patriots are strictly by the book and have no knowledge of the sneaky attendant.

Considering this all looks like it was a bit of a sting operation by the NFL rather than some spur of the moment decision to check the footballs, it wouldn't shock me if they do have pretty good video evidence.

If this attendant is a paid employee of the Patriots and is found to be the person altering footballs there is no way in hell the Patriots won't be found guilty. Everything from their past cheating, to Brady's own words about how he likes footballs, to the fact that he spearheaded the campaign to change the rules will all be considered. If this pans out I would expect to see something along the lines of Bountygate in regards to punishment. If this were another team I'd suspect the punishment would be much more harsh.

Great point. It's almost as if the NFL knew before hand and maybe talked to the Pats about this already. And BB in all his narcissistic glory refused to believe that he could be touched. Oh how I hope the NFL throws the book at that a**clown.

The funny part about these experiments attempting to re-create the exact game atmospheric and weather conditions in order to see if the footballs' PSI goes lower is...this control experiment already happened, during the game itself. And all 12 of the Colts' footballs tested just fine.

So put away your amateur science kits and wikipedia knowhow. Even Belichick knows damn well that his explanation needed to be crafted such that it could explain why THEIR footballs and ONLY their footballs actually went to a lower PSI. That's why he focused on this idea that the ball boys rubbing them so vigorously raised the temperature of the air inside the balls.

Of course that doesn't explain why the footballs started out with lower-than-normal PSI prior to the vigorous ball rubbing. Especially since the maker of the footballs stands 100% by their product, claiming that they are all uniformly inflated to between 12.5 and 13.5 PSI.

This is what I've been saying. I've been saying wrt need to know what variance there was in the Colts balls, if any, to see if the Patriots were significantly greater.

This all is moot now if this report of the balls being taken elsewhere is accurate. Would be the smoking gun off been saying we were missing.

Hate to tell you this but science doesn't work on one sideline and not the other. If the Colts balls were inflated to the upper limit they would have lost the same 2psi and dropped below the legal limit. Guess what?? They didn't. If the Pats stored their balls in a hotter place to have the effect of the cold make them drop inflation, guess what?? That's cheating too. Don't piss down my back and tell me its raining. They cheated and now we see some random rogue ball boy just deciding to lower the inflation. I call BS.

Looking back I wonder if the league regrets the fact they didn't check the balls again prior to kickoff. If they didn't wait til halftime then all this nonsense about the balls deflating in the cold air would be a non issue. But then again, if they did check them before kickoff and they checked ok then they would have a mess on their hands so I guess they had no choice but to wait.

When they say "video evidence" do they mean video taken from security cameras at the Patriots facility or by other means? I cant understand why the Patriots would do something in full view of a camera knowing its being taped. I`m just trying to get a grip on all this.

From what I'm gathering it's normal video surveillance at the stadium.

That's what I pretty much figured and if it is from the surveillance cameras then how the hell did Belichick and Brady lie through their teeth knowing all the wrongdoing was recorded and the league has access to the video.?

The NFL does not want the integrity of competition to be compromised. But the last thing they want is the public believing with a great deal of certainty that the integrity of competition doesn't exist in the NFL.

The league could get away with sweeping Spygate under the rug. It was a lot more difficult to quantify the benefit of videotaping opposing signals. A lot of it seems so nebulous and abstract, that the average person probably isn't going to think it provided a big advantage.

This instance is different IMO. It is easy to explain and understand the advantage a deflated ball gives you. Beyond that, there is a ton of data available to quantify the advantage gained. We have discreet events that gave the Patriots the ability to doctor balls. The rule changed in 2007 that essentially let them doctor 50% more balls. Data alone is going to be a big part of uncovering the mystery and identifying why the Patriots did this.

Beyond that, this is now the second time that the Patriots have done this to the league. At some point the other owners are going to say enough is enough.

It is actually funny, because one of the first things I heard when discussing the Patriots remarkable drop in fumble-rate after the rule change was that BenJarvus Green Ellis was their RB from 08-11. The guy is one of the best at securing the ball in the league.

On the surface, that seems like a valid argument. The Patriots just gave a lot of touches to a RB with great ball security. BJGE literally never fumbled for NE. He had 501 touches and fumbled 0 times.

But look at what happened when he left NE. In 524 touches with the Bengals, he fumbled 5 times. 1% fumble-rate is pretty damn low, but that is still 1% higher than it was with NE.

I'm assuming that he's been doing this for so long that he wasn't worried about it. Did you read the link I posted about their turnover ratio since 2007?

Here is some more info on Patriots players miraculously holding onto the ball better while playing for NE:

According to Stats, LLC, the six players who have played extensively for the Patriots and other teams in this span (2010-2014) all fumbled far less frequently wearing the New England uniform. Including recovered fumbles, Danny Amendola, BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Danny Woodhead, Wes Welker, Brandon LaFell and LeGarrette Blount have lost the ball eight times in 1,482 touches for the Patriots since 2010, or once every 185.3 times. For their other teams, they fumbled 22 times in 1,701 touches (once every 77.3).
