I was playing Mario Galaxy yesterday when I just got the urge to pop in Mario64 on my N64. Playing that game brought me back to when i thought video games were at their prime. To me, Mario 64 is the best platformer ever. It was so revolutionary and still incredibly fun today. Come to think of it, the N64 had some great platformers! Mario 64, Banjo Kazooie, etc.
I guess Mario 64 for me, though it is almost by default. I don't often play platformers it seems, and none really jump out at the moment for me.
Well if Sonic counts as a platformer (which I believe it does), then Sonic 2 on the Genesis is my favorite.
Hey glad to see you made it over from FH. I've been missing your monthly NPD numbers, so bad that I had to do it for June.
Bond for the N64, man we played multiplayer on that for hours and hours and hours. Mario Kart as well.
Thanks, it took a while to realize everyone jumped ship over here and me actually finding this place. I'll fire up the charts starting next month. Those aren't platformers.
true, however not part of the question. It is just as valid as if he said, "Rueban" and your replay was, "Amazing sandiwn nonetheless"
Who cares if someone doesn't know what a platform title is by definition? I simply said they were amazing games and made no reference to anything else, so there is no need for you to break this down with analogies. :P
Ah guess I should have thunk that one out a little more. I guess Mario is the king of the platformers if I have to choose a 'platformer' game. Bond still rules.
Great games!!! I used to play MK64 with friends up until this new one just came out. 10 years I think!
See, I would have said that... Except I figured he was talking about basic platformers.... Metroid is more like an adventure game.
Yea, I would have said some of the Mega Man games, but it was listed as action like everywhere I looked.
Wow, a lot of guys don't even know what a platformer is. Sad. Just...sad. Anyhoo, the best PLATFORMER of all time is SMB 3. Followed very closely by Super Mario World.
Metroid is a platformer with an objective. I wouldn't call it an adventure game per se. I mean, post-SotN Castlevania is no less a platformer and it uses the same formula.
I actually thought that Super Mario World was better than 3....and I am not really a platformer fan but that one got me addicted so that has to be a huge plus for SMW.
Goog lord ... listen to yourselves! I mean, I love video games, too, but this is hardcore geekery right here!
agreed, I tried to play it again with some buddies last year and it totally sucked. The controls are so bad now it's not even funny. It is still the best game of it's era, though IMO. I played that game for hours and hours, slappers only, license to kill, golden gun, DK mode, paintball mode, games were much simpler then haha.
ok so this is a stretch, but bear with me. I would go ahead and say not a game, but a level in a game: Level 3, the Wind Tunnel, in Battletoads for NES. The game itself is not a platformer, but this level more or less is. and it was both the most fun and most frustrating level in a game i have ever played. If you need a reminder, check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=idZ9C0Qtj2A however, a much more comical rendition of the level is this jewel that i found the other day: I could not stop laughing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQUmipv-IG0&feature=related
