Well Casey, that's life as a Dolphins fan. We're always someone's fallback option. I know how fat girls feel around prom time.
Isn't it a good thing that you have zero faith in the owner to listen to fans about coaching changes? Now, beef or pork sausage, Miller or Michelob? Urinals too close together? That's about the only time when Ross needs to be listening to fans.
In this situation, it might be good to have a plan-less idiotic Owner. Never know what Ross is gonna do, I imagine after we win the SB someday, he will fire the HC the next day, because its Stephen M. Ross.
He should have some sort of X's and O's bona fides, preferably with some clear circumstances where he's meaningfully adjusted what he does to his talent. Some sort of meaningful soft skills would also be good?
In the sense that he made eye contact, gave Philbin a firm handshake, and threw out a bunch of interview platitudes? A meaningful inquiry into his responsibilities in Green Bay should have disqualified him.
Disagree. His responsibilities in Green Bay were a huge plus. It is the things that showed up as he got the job that should get him fired.
He was essentially a glorified secretary. The coaching aspect of his job was negligible, most assistant head coaches around the league handle what Philbin did and pull more water in terms of an actual job as a coordinator or positional coach.
His job was to set everything up and create all the plans. In fact, that is better to being a head coach than a position coach. A good head coach doesn't actually have to be a good coach. If he can set up great game plans and put people in position to win, then he can be a head coach. When it came to the credentials before Philbin was hired, he had really good ones. In fact, his "glorified secretary" work is the best thing he does in Miami. He just sucks on gameday things and talking to his players. He is pretty good at being the overseer.
Ross hired Philbin for a couple of reasons, he wants the GB franchise model built on drafting and player development. He also wants an exciting product on the field (passing) to help with sagging ticket sales. It shouldn't be a surprise that Philbin wasn't fired, the opposite is probably true. Obviously that doesnt fit with the win now or else culture of today. Still, it's probably the best way to reach the goals Ross has set. As Tannehill reaches his prime Brady and Manning will be retiring, the stadium upgrades will be coming on line to hopefully provide a much needed home field advantage and better fan experience. Those changes, the 3rd wild card, plus continued improvement of the roster should see Miami reaching the playoffs more often than not in the next several years.
So what, they can think whatever they want, if Quinn is the guy you grab him. Put it this way, remember when Belicheat was the Jest HC for a couple of hours, yeah that was funny.
There's nothing here that fits that profile. Especially not from a personnel standpoint. Philbin will make it exciting, alright. He'll get scared and turtle a game until you force a last dramatic drive, one way or the other(usually the other) There's no slow-building plan here. There's no grand blueprint that is coming to fruition. You're basically hoping that the talent end of the franchise performs well enough Philbin doesn't matter. Even then, it's not a tenable model.
Joe Philbin is a really bad coach, and it requires an incredible stretch of credibility to get to the point where that's maybe not necessarily the case.
In this case Dpate is correct, Cautious Coach Joe does turtle games away, dual edged sword is that his guys letting him down, or is a too conservative approach letting everyone down? Do know two straight December collapses, with the playoffs in sight, is certainly grounds for showing Philbin the door, the only hint he is accomplishing anything other than wasting fans time is Tannehill clearly developed. Still, gotta be honest, Ross is far more patient with Philbin than I would be, meaning 85% chance he got pink slipped after the 2014 season. Saw an interesting stat this past season, in 8 yrs or so, we had 1 come from behind win on the road, think about that for a moment, it is not like Philbin has reversed that trend, coupled with disasterous Decembers, and no Staff shake ups. Why won't 2015 look like 2014?
Yes, I've heard. And like Fin pointed out, the only way to go 8-8 with a really bad coach is to have a really good roster so apparently you think Ireland was a top notch GM.
The easy answer would be half the team doesn't get hurt, there's more to it than that but I'll leave it there bc frankly no one seems to be looking for an in depth analysis. If fire the HC is good enough for you then great, ignorance is bliss.
Irish built a solid roster but Philbin wasn't interested in following his lead for whatever reason. What I take issue with is being lectured by anti Philbin guys making the same points that myself and others made last year, before criticizing Philbin was en vogue, back when ya know, everything was Ireland's fault.
Mista Tee will get it turned around, ok. Da owna of da Fish needs to give Mista Tee da powa to hiya and fiya da coach.
No he didn't. There is an interview out there that lays out exactly what he did. And it's depressing to read. We were told he came up with the game plan each week. Turns out this was false. He organized who was going to work on parts of the gameplan, and then put it together in a neat package, spell checked it, and then presented it to McCarthy. He literally, was McCarthy's secretary. By his own admissions, nobody else's: Didn't install his own offense. Didn't call plays. Didn't come up with the game plan. Didn't work with any players. His credentials were NOT good. Oh hell, here it is again: http://www.palmbeachpost.com/news/s...ns-joe-philbin-didnt-call-plays-in-gre/nPs4Y/
This might happen............in the GM League. Sign ups filling out fast. Check out the 2015 GM League forum quick. Best way to kill time between the Superbowl and draft.
I remember asking for you "in depth analysis" in a previous thread... however you refused to give it. Here we go again...
I have. I've quoted it many times. When asked what you do because you didn't work with players, didn't install your own offense, didn't call plays, didn't come up with the gameplan, and you talk about typos and powerpoints ... you're reaching. It's like when you were first out of college looking for a job and on your resume you wrote, "worked on multi-million dollar mergers and acquisitions" because you proofread them for typos. That's what he was doing.
Riiiiiiiight. Your speculation is awesome. The article says he ran the entire offense game planning and was in control of the other offense coaches. You being you, interpret and act like its fact.
