    10 years.

2-3 years for a playoff win is logical, but we have said that before. One playoff win wouldn't change much, because respect comes with consistency. Maybe the league will expand the playoff field to 24 and the team will be lucky enough to win a few mid-seed matchups.

I think someone else will need to own the team in order to get a strong organization in place. Weak organizations tend to produce weak products on the field. Ross isn't likely to be the owner for 10 more years.

Maybe not a Superbowl run, but we've got a team that can get to 9-7 or 10-6 and build up a steady run from there.

I voted 10 yrs. IMO, it will take that long to gain any real respect around the league. And during that time, just more of the same obviously won't cut it. We would need to get in the playoffs every year, going deep most of the time and hopefully play in a SB or 2 during that time. Unless we do that, we'll not be respected. Even if by some stroke of luck and a miracle we win the SB next year will still not gain us respect as everyone would just say it is a fluke. If we did win it all next year, it most certainly would be a fluke !!! :D

Though when you factor in playoff appearances since 2000, the Chiefs and Bengals have more playoff appearances and division titles since 2000 than the Dolphins.

So the Dolphins are possibly the 4th worst franchise in the NFL this century. Lions have 2 playoff losses since 2000 like the Dolphins, but no division titles. Bills have nothing since 1999. Browns have 1 playoff loss in 2002. So that's the company we keep...the Lions, Bills and Browns. Bills and Lions seem to be trending up though (and Lions kinda got hosed out of a win this year, though they could've done more that 2nd half). It's quite amazing how far the Phins fell so fast, unable to pick themselves up at all. I mean the Raiders have been awful since 2002, but at least they went to the Super Bowl. That gives them a little edge.

Which is why I just reluctantly had to vote for 5 years, though I certainly hope its wrong. Thought they might return in 2006 and then 2009/2010 (and even possibly this year or last year after the big starts)...but they failed each time. Hard to have a lot of trust that they will. But we'll keep watching and hoping. Its just upsetting to see the franchise like this now after so many years of it while others who were known for a rich history have typically bounced back after some poor seasons (Steelers, Cowboys, Packers, 49ers, etc), while Miami just cannot figure it out.

I couldn't agree more. The fact that other formerly great teams have bounced back to return to the Super Bowl, as you stated, is what drew my frustration and was the inspiration for this thread. Every year seems to be the same thing with the Dolphins. I just want us to be back in the playoffs yearly and occasionally make the Super Bowl.

    Here and there
I put 20 because there wasn't a 15 option, in 10 years Ross either has sold the team or is dead, new owners, new management, upgraded players over the next 2-3 years afterwards then a couple of years of playoff wins.

5 years. By that time two things should happen...The Belichik-Brady reign will be over, and Philbin will be gone.

Once we find a replacement for philbin and Tannehill, probably 3-4 years after that.

    I voted 5 years.

Philbum will last two more years, and with the talent we have, a new coach will come in and have us in the playoffs within two years. The 5th year will be back -to-back years.

If we can build some average depth along the oline, then this year.

After all, we were more than respectable when our oline was intact.

My dad and older brother. I had a Carolina Panthers piggy bank (never amounted to anything) when I was like 5 in their first year in the NFL, for some reason I switched over and never looked back, I guess it was their love of the Dolphins that made me develop that love for them as well. Here I am almost 20 years later, waiting on the good times to get here. lol

I'd say somewhere between the time Brady and Belichick both retire and the time they find Jimmy Hoffa.

You are delusional.... I say that with respect of course....

One year to go from non-respectable to respectable?..... That's not how that works.

Answer my question, how do you all of a sudden go to respectable in one year?

By winning two to three more games next season, at least one or two of them in the last three games. Instant respect.

One year doesn't create respect. If so, we should still be respectable after 2008. Respect is not so fleeting.

    Is there any other kind?

If we have a one year wonder again, that to me isn't really respect but more like, notice. We're getting noticed. Respect is given to teams like the Steelers, Ravens the past few years, Packers, Indy under Manning. Hell the Bengals make the playoffs every year but they're not respected IMO. Look at Falcons the past few years where they made it to the playoffs and even NFCG but where is their respect after two subpar years?
