And we still have Kevin Coyle. SMFH. So many talented defensive coaches available and philbin rather handicap himself.
Miami may be holding out for a potential new DC. You notice NOTHING has been said either way. For all we know, within the organization, the writing is on the walls and Coyle is packing his bags as we speak? I have a feeling there is more going on behind the scenes than we know. I hope this is the case, anyhow. I know there are some bright individuals in that building, let's see if they can pull off something this offseason.
Lets interview him tomorrow, if he agrees to the job then we fire Coyle....it's messed up but hey it wouldn't be the first time we interviewed a guy for a position that wasn't vacant yet.
Why not? The team is already handicapped by Ross' decision to keep Philbin. So, it only makes sense. It's irrelvant anyways. There's no way in hell Philbin would ever bring in a guy like Schwartz. No way in hell those guys would ever get along. They're completely opposite personalities.
As much as I may dispise the little rat-faced **** Schwartz, he'd probably be an upgrade to Coyle at this point. Of course, we'd probably start playing a dirty, cheap-shot'ing style of defensive football which I could never respect.
It is Ross who has handicapped the team by keeping Philbin. I really don't see any of the top tier DC candidates taking a job with a lame duck coach. Especially when there are so many other opportunities which are available this off season.
Ross has settled with mediocrity. Root for 8-8 and be proud of your 8-8 team. We are the best at being average and folding in mid December.
Ross loves being a middle of the pack team. That is what I have learned about him since he became owner.
Exactly, and this is one area Cautious Joe is falling down on the job. We need some passion and intensity, he approaches things like an Accountant and "everyone has a job to do men, let's do them!" Football is as much about passion and intensity as it is the X and O's, imo this is one reason why we have fallen flat the last two Decembers.
I dont really think so. Even if they do, it's far from the glaring differences between Schwartz and Philbin
Schwartz is an established defensive minded coach. I would definitely welcome him in Miami...Buffalo had a great defense last year and some of the credit needs to go to him.
I do wonder is Failbin would take a chance on hiring an established veteran DC. He appears by his history of hires to hire only neophytes. Afraid of being wrong? Or challenged?
He's a neophyte himself, maybe he just likes the company. Not sure it's fair tho, he did hire Mike Sherman, who's anything but a neo.
Reason I like Schwartz is he is a 4-3 'guy" and we have the personnel to run his style of defense, so there would not be the learning curve. Still and all, it's a pipe dream, Coyle will be on the sidelines in 2015
The difference, for this year anyway, Lazor is no threat to Queasy's job, but Schwartz on the other hand, could step in in a moments notice to take Queasy's job midseason...
Ho do you figure that? Schwartz was a terrible HC in Detroit and underachieved on every level. JS is not a threat to anyone.
He emphasizes the blitz much more and I believe he's more of a man coverage than zone guy, which I prefer.
Yeaup... I'm mentally checking out on this offseason already. Hard to be excited for the draft, FA, anything really. I know that when each comes around I'll still be on here like a meth head looking for a fix ...but I've got next to zero enthusiasm or optimism right now.
Schwartz served his purpose, he turned a team that lost 20 consecutive road games and had no toughness at all..no attitude no pride. and gave them that,,no he didn't win like everyone was hoping he would, but he instilled somthing that hadnt been there since Wayne Fontes. And he can coach defense.
Exactly. Jim Schwartz was the exact medicine the Detroit Lions needed at the time. He fixed that organization. I think Xanders and the other guy in the personnel department helped of course too, but the attitude that Schwartz brought there was exactly what that complete loser of an organization needed. Sure, he wasn't the coach the needed to get them over the hump because he didnt adapt himself and the team to the sucess they worked hard to obtain, he couldn't pull it all together when he needed too. Then with the winning culture mostly restored, in comes cool, calm, collected Jim Caldwell to harness that new attitude, control it, and get them to play much better at the end of games, the end of the season, and get back to the playoffs. That similar scenario is the main reason I would be lobbying for replacing Philbin. I think Joe was the right guy because of his background to come in, re-stabilize things in Miami, but he's just not grown as a head coach, he's not adapted. He's helped get this team out of the funk it was in, but I think this is as far as he's going to take us. A change of perspective at the top is what I think this team needs to get over the hump. I really think, a new head coach, someone more aggressive, more experienced, more of a leader, and another offseason plugging the holes, next year would have been really impressive to see. I'm not so sure we're going to see that change on the field with Philbin at the helm. Especially if Coyle is staying too.
