For the second year in a row, the Dolphins had the lowest TV ratings for all NFL teams which are the only NFL franchise in their telecasts area. This was reported by Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald. Also for the third year in a row, TV viewership in South Florida for Dolphin games continued to decline. Obviuosly the fact people in South Florida don't want to watch the game when it on television clearly shows that it wasn't the stadium which was the problem. It is the Dolphn organization and it's years of mediocrity which is the reason fans don't show up for games. When the renovations are completed, it may be better for those fans who do attend the games. I just don't see interest in the team picking up again until this organization gets its act together and starts putting a better product on the field. The longer this era of mediocrity continues, the more the former fans of the Dolphins are going to find others things to do during Dolphin games then attend the games or watch the games on TV. Right now the Dolphins are losing an entire generation of fans in South Florida who have no interest in the team. The only way to get this interest back is by winning. Ross can build the best stadium in the entire league but it won't matter one bit if he continues to put an inferior product on the field.
I don't think that anyone disagrees with you, but I also don't see why it's either/or. The stadium side of the originization and the football side are seperate. While we all want the team to be a stready winner, letting the stadium fall apart while we wait doesn't help matters.
thats the most beautiful picture ever..I wanna make baby love to it. so you see that huge gap between to club level and the hang edge from the upper deck, that will be narrowed because of the new pitch that the lower bowl will have? thats cool...I really think they need to say shave off like 10 rows all around the top edge of the upper bowl, because if you have it as is, that upperbowl is no closer to the field then before.
everything you say here is true and elementary, every level of a team you will have will have the advantage if its built right, so if the team is bad they will only be a little better than bad, if the advantage is true every team will play a little better than they would if they were playing in sun life as is. the point of why this is so exciting is that when we do have a competitive team this new stadium will finally provide a home field that can give them an advantage..A real feeling of inspiration to come out and play for your fans, not what currently is in place which is 70,000 sitting on their asses cause their so far from the field and so freakin hot its unconfortable.
if thery're moving the pitch to be more of a steeper grade, why not raise the level of the field?, this would also bring all things closer to the stands..throw 5 feet of dirt under the current field...is that possible.?
From what I understand, unless I'm wrong which is quite possible, the upper deck will not be touched.
Nah I think your right RG, which I don't understand..I would think there is something we could do preset wise in the upper, shift those seats upward man, and trimming the top.
The remake of the lower bowl is expected to be finished in time for the Dolphins’ and Hurricanes’ 2015 seasons. The roof and other amenities will be part of the next phase of construction following the football season.
yup..i wonder if the big screens will be put in place by the beginning of the season...i think so, so with everything being done inside the stadium, it should give us great idea on how much of a contrast there is between the lower bowl and the upper bowl and if it looks weird or is to non- symmetrical.
yeah..man, i just can't imagine the lower bowl with a different grade and the uppegrbowl being so far away.
something sad, yet so symbolic ,of what's happened with this franchise under AlbratROSS, all summed up here:
lol..i wish i could piss on it on the way out...its given both our local programs more losses than anyone understands.
That would be like watching the grass grow. Although, with your hatred of that stadium, it would probably be more like a daily B-12 shot....right in your rump.
The more images I see, the more I realize how run down the place was. I've only seen it on TV and nice skyline/helicopter shots from a distance, etc. I had no idea the stadium looked that aged, which may be par for the course, I don't know. I've only been to Ralph Wilson.
I agree. The empty seats really stand out. I went to my first home game after being a fan for 30 years this past season. It was the Bills Thursday night game. We heard on the way to the game that it was sold out and I was shocked because no game eve looks even close to a sell out on TV. Got there, game started, and sure enough empty seats all over up top. Who is buying all of those tickets? I don't know how that game compares to an average game because it was a nationally televised night game, but the energy was a little better than I expected. I was in section 103 with about 30 Bills fans, which was pretty brutal until that safety. After that is was the best time ever. They all went back the bus with 4 and a half minutes left in the game and I had rows of empty seats all around me. Pretty cool watching those poor SOBs walk out with their tails between there legs. Not sure I made many friends on that trip. Quite a few of them mentioned that the stadium and experience was better than they expected. Ralph Wilson Stadium gets pretty crazy so I was surprised to hear that. That's why your comment made so much sense. On TV the stadium looks completely dead.
Agreed. Similar to some soccer stadiums that have a sort of dugout front row not too far from the field boundaries. I'd actually like to see something like this implemented in our ballpark.
But what if we forfeit both teams' seasons in favor of year-long construction? Kill two birds with one stone: spare two fanbases of the customary buildup/disappointment, and at the same time finish renovations in time for 2016.
I just worry about this upper deck that is going to be the same distance away after the modernization as it was before..I don't get going thru all the trouble of remodeling the lowbowl and keeping the upper status quo..its gonna be weird don't ya think?
i made that statement because of the lack of games being televised nationally in our stadium...atmoshere needs to translate thru the tv to capture an audience, sunlife has no chance at that.
It doesn't look that bad up close. These images appear to be saturated or enhanced somehow to illustrate the dark contrast in the photos.
ratings go up when seattle games are played, some of that has to do with the venue and the atmosphere that comes across the screen...people tun in to watch that venue and fans perform..
if you want to feel the atmosphere you have to go to the game, you can't convince me that the schedule makers put venue before performance...if you win 12 games a year you get national tv games and the stadium does not matter at all no one wants to see seattle because of that stadium, they want to see them because they have marshawn lynch who might make another spectacular run where he breaks 100 tackles or russell wilson makes a play or that freakin talented defense lays the wood, the most fun thing to be part of a game in seattle won't be shown on tv anyways because it happens during commercial breaks. I'm not putting performance before venue but if you don't think there is lure and intrigue from the public perspective when they know that seatlle is playing on national tv you would be wrong.
