I haven't watched him at all this year yet, but I came away last year thinking his speed wasn't an issue, that it was potentially a slight plus.

    Do you mean Justin Hardy?

He's been very good. I like him. He reminds me a little of Marvin Jones. Superb route runner, great at making himself available.

TraMayne Bondurant is a tremendous playmaker at the college level. But he is a smidge under 5'10 and less than 200 lbs. He seems too small for an NFL safety, his college position, but maybe not fast enough to be a corner. He was an effective nickel back too, and that may be his best pro position. I wonder how well he may transition to the next level. I'd be excited if we drafted him, from what I know at this point.

man did Lockett light ucla up in their bowl game..

'' Lockett was the best player on the field, again, going for 13 catches and 164 yards and two touchdowns — breaking Alamo Bowl records for receptions and all-purpose yards (249).''

Marcus Hardison a 7-FA? Say wut? One of our pair of eyes is wrong. Looks more like a 2nd rounder to me doing the things he does at his size.

Chris, this is the kind of small school kid that I believe typically gives you a chub [well, he was small school]

-more of a 5-tech/jumbo DE in the athletic Calais Campbell mold
    -10 sacks, 2 INT, 3 FF, 15 TFL..... at 6'4 300 damn pounds.

-2nd year of D1 ball after taking the Dodge City C.C. route b/c of grades
-junior season was a total transitional period. Just starting to tap his potential.
-Didn't know what a defensive audible was until ASU, and didn't play defense in H.S. till junior year.
-ASU defensive coordinator said he matured so much in that short time that he became the leader up front that the other guys turn to and look to, and he coaches them up.
-he's pissed for getting snubbed by ALL-Pac-12 team.... and he's probably gonna be pisses for being snubbed by Senior Bowl and East-West Shrine. Total chip on his shoulder kinda guy.

    http://espn.go.com/video/Hardison sack/ {6'4 300 and dipping around the corner like that}
    http://www.hudl.com/MarcusHardison/highlights/
***unfortunately no other tape unless you watch full ASU games I believe.

Interesting tidbid: has the strongest arm of anyone on the ASU roster, including the strong-armed backup QB Mike Bercovici. "Actually, I might not ever admit this in my entire life, but he can probably throw it 80 yards," Bercovici said. "You don't know where it's going to go, but it goes off like a firework."

Edit: Oh, here's a few more plays.
    1. 1st play- INT off tipped pass vs Notre Dame.
    2. 2nd play- tips a pass leading to a pick-6 vs Notre Dame. [right side this time]
    [video=youtube;q-M6HlLZd5I]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-M6HlLZd5I[/video]

Sack at 1:51 coming off the right edge. Great hand swat, turns the corner, and closes in a hurry. Just not fair at 300 lbs.

From his LSU game, Benardrick McKinney is not a 1st rounder. 3rd maybe. Too many things bother me. Gotta watch more film though.

Deontay Greenberry is declaring I was told. 6'3, 198 lb WR from Houston. He had a very good game in the Armed Forces Bowl, when Houston rallied from being down 31-6 with 14 minutes left.

There are definitely individual games of McKinney's you can watch and you will not like him for a 1st. By this physical potential is fantastic because of his length and ability to run. I go back to K.J. Wright, whom I liked a lot coming out yet he was never a guy people thought of as a 1st rounder, or even a 2nd rounder. He's been an excellent pro, a big cog in that defensive machine over in Seattle. This is one of those Belichick type instances where you see the guy's role within the defense and how that can hurt an offense, rather than isolating him individually each play and waiting for him to make All Pro plays like Luke Kuechly.

Granted not sure I'd draft him 1st round either. But not 3rd round.

Before I can even take a great look at Marcus Hardison you have to know the first thought that pops into my head about him. It's context within which I am going to watch his tape, and it's important.

I know this Arizona State defensive system. I've been evaluating players from it for years. It's the system that produces a Will Sutton (13.5 TFLs in 2013, 23.5 in 2012). It's the system that produces a Davon Coleman (15.0 TFLs in 2013, 11.0 in 2012) whom if you do some searching you'll find I'd been discussing him a few years before he came out. It's also the system that produced Carl Bradford (19.0 TFLs in 2013, 21.5 in 2012).

All of these guys are in the NFL. But they're not living up to the expectations associated with their gaudy TFL and/or Sack stats. So I see Marcus Hardison with his 15.0 TFLs and 10.0 Sacks in that system and I'm not shocked, nor am I as convinced as those numbers would normally make me.

And the other bit of context is that he's from Punta Gorda, Florida. Which is my home town (or at least, where I went to high school right across the river from my home town). And that makes me all at once excited for and extremely skeptical of him. Because Punta Gorda football athletes tend to be severe underachievers, unfortunately. As a Clemson fan, you should know that. I'll give you a hint: last name rhymes with Smellamy.

(CFBStats says he's from Nocatee. My ***. That boy was a Fighting Tarpon).

Not kidding about the Punta Gorda thing. Go back to a friend of mine, Elgin Hicks who got busted down from UF where he was a big time national recruit to USF. He's a coach now, and happy, so I'm happy for him. But life got in the way at UF (baby, etc). Fast forward to 5-star recruit DiShon Platt. Then you've got Rhymes-With-Smellamy. Not a great history. I went to school with a lot of these guys. I breathed the air they breathed. I feel like I kind of know why people from my town tend to underachieve.

All that said, Todd you are really onto something here.

The guy is 6'4" & 300 lbs and runs a 4.7 forty. He looks like it on tape, too. Explosive as hell. Just look at his HUDL tape from Dodge City. Easy to see why he was a 4-star JUCO transfer prospect, ranked in the top 5 among JUCO transfer DEs. Why is he getting almost ZERO airplay on the interwebs?

Smellamy. LOL. His play reminds me of Smellamy. This fat Amy that I worked with once. So fat at like 4'10 she had to waddle like a penguin... or one of those inflatable air costumes. If you wanted to hug her, which I didn't, you had to outline your arms in chalk, then walk around the other side of her to complete the maneuver. We called her Famy, fat Amy. If she were a nice person we wouldn't have. The point is, she smelled.

    Dishi*?

Tis a shame man. Thankfully Hardison has overcome it [it would appear], although you can see the immense effort and stress it involved. I mean, this guy has NFL ability but he had to have the fabric of his being tested, and was nearly broken in the process, just to reach D1 starting status as a senior, something that most of these other NFL caliber kids would reach on autopilot.

IDK :confused2:, that's what I'm asking? Why the hell was he not a Senior Bowl or East-West invite? It's certainly not behavioral. Is it cause he was a small school guy with 1 year producing at D1? I might like him better back in the 270-275 range, whatever it was closer to in his Dodge City stuff where it looked like he was trying to evacuate a land mine w/o losing a leg. He better get a late invite somewhere or I'll be pissed. Then again, that'd make him a better signing for one of your guys since it'll cause him to tumble a bit I would think. Speaking of which, did you hook them up with Branden Oliver, PFF's 10th rated back at +6.2? :shifty:

A lot of rumors going around that Jameis Winston has actually decided to return to FSU and skip the draft.

If so, it only turns this year's QB class into even more of a dog.

If it's true, it's great for me as an FSU fan but for him, I don't know why he needs the aggravation for no pay, but whatever.

Presuming he plays well and stays clean, he certainly would solidify himself as the #1 pick next year when perhaps more desirable locales are in that top pick range or in the mood to trade, like perhaps a Los Angeles, rather than STL Rams.

If he decides to stay I see that as a sign of maturity, wanting to improve more, wanting to leave FSU with his degree and on good terms with FSU. He cares a lot for his school, cares a lot for Jimbo despite getting Popovich treatment from him he knows its for his own good.

There are things on his game he needs to clean up on. His second half and fourth quarter winning percentage is by far the best in the draft, i dont even have to look at the stats i just know that seperates him from the other quarterbacks. But there are still things he can work on to limit the mistakes and see the field better. Go back to FSU get another crack at the playoff (if they let an ACC team get in).

This is bad news for the Jets if he stays and good news for Doughty and Cato and every other quarterback prospect, they might slide in an earlier round.

Considering Miami isn't going to get Jameis anyway I would love to see him return to school. And I agree it would be a sign of maturity.

It's probably our fault for being surprised by the decision though. For the longest time his family had been unwavering in their insistance that he would stay in school long enough to get his degree. But then this whole student conduct hearing happened, including some very odd and unprecedented behavior by the FSU administration, and that pissed him off enough that the reports were he will leave the school for the NFL after this year because he's angry at the admins. But even those reports noted that he loves Jimbo Fisher and I believe the A.D., he just dislikes other people in the administration. So now the student conduct hearing is over and playoff run is over, emotions have settled, and what's left is that Jameis Winston loves Jimbo Fisher, loves his team, loves baseball, and remains committed to getting his degree.

    What an a-hole, right?

Dorial Green-Beckham is heading to the NFL according to Bob Stoops.

There is going to be a big controversy about him and there really ought to be. What he did to get kicked out of Mizzou was BAD. I don't think it should be sugar-coated, and I CERTAINLY hope it isn't just swept under the rug and put on Page 12 in an effort to minimize the controversy and make it just about the talent.

This is a real discussion that needs to be out there. Especially in the wake of the Ray Rice stuff.

I work in Punta Gorda. Charlotte has produced some pretty good baseball players but has always lacked great football talent. They've always been the little brother to Ft. Myers (my hometown) in this regard.

What high school did you go to?

This year's Walt Aikens is Justin Turner of Walsh.

Every bit of 6'3" to 6'4" & 210 lbs, moves well, fluid hips and plays corner. Was a former 4-star or 5-star recruit to Michigan. Screwed up, went down to Walsh. Not a mature guy. But a freak.

I can't promise any "real discussion" from the media. More likely discussions meant for entertainment, but it will be talked about if only because the media loves a juicy story, especially in the wake of the Ray Rice stuff. The media single highhandedly ***** slapped Rodger Goodell into reversing his own decision (after he defended it relentlessly) and used unilateral power not afforded to him by the players association in collective bargaining. How big the story gets will depend on DGB's 40 time. A sub 4.4 could create massive coverage.

I think it all depends on how DGB interviews at the combine with teams. If he comes off as sincere I can really see Seattle, New England pulling the trigger on him. You wont see a team that isn't stable take a chance on him.

I didn't realize Jordan Phillips [Oklahoma] declared. 3rd best DT in the draft behind Williams & Goldman. Plus he's 5-tech-capable too.

This changes things. Now I want a beastly defensive front, starting with Suh, and finishing with Eddie Goldman [6'3 320] & Jordan Phillips [6'6 335]. Goldman & Phillips mitigate Suh's contract with them costing a combined $14.5 million for 4 years. 6'6 Phillips and 6'6 Dion Jordan paired to the right for QBs to throw over, plus Suh and slightly poor man's Suh in the middle going Donkey Kong.

Chris, here's another unknown D-lineman that gives me a chub. Rakeem Nunez-Roches [Southern Miss].
Seems like a 3rd rounder to me.
By the end of his clip my heart rate was actually picking up a little with how much energy & passion this kid plays with.
Looks like Adrian Clayborn with 25 extra pounds but with minimal ability loss. This kid's gonna kill it at the combine.

There's a junior DT from Texas AM-Commerce named Charles Tuaau who's now 6'4 315. Lone Star DPOY with 12.5 sacks and 25 TFL.

I can't find anything on him other than his impressive freshman highlight clip [from Riverside CC I believe it is] where he was a 275 pound DE looking all the part of a solid 4* player. He started at Hawaii, then Riverside C.C., then Oregon St where he failed to meet academic requirements, so he ended up at Texas AMC. There's a comment on him that says, "size of a DL, speed of a LB. Great run stopper in the middle and a beast off the edge. He can play all positions on the D-line."

I would want to find current footage of this kid fairly quickly.

I think I've said this a few times before but this draft really is going to be a nice one for big-bodied defensive line players.

I'm not QUITE sure about the pure pass rushers, but this draft is full of defensive tackles and defensive end/tackle tweeners.

You brought up Xavier Cooper. He's another one I've been onto for a while. Add Gabe Wright of Auburn to that mix. Just everywhere I look I find more big bodied DLs that I like...

    (no particular order)
    Xavier Cooper, Washington State
    Carl Davis, Iowa
    Michael Bennett, Ohio State
    Gabe Wright, Auburn
    Travis Raciti, San Jose State
    Rakeem Nunez-Roches, Southern Miss
    Marcus Hardison, Arizona State
    Grady Jarrett, Clemson
    James Rouse, Marshall
    Henry Anderson, Stanford
    Arik Armstead, Oregon
    Christian Covington, Rice
    DeForest Buckner, Oregon
    Leonard Williams, USC
    Danny Shelton, Washington
    Justin Hamilton, Louisiana-Lafayette
    Jordan Phillips, Oklahoma

NFL talent in those big bodies all over the place. I don't know if Adam Gotsis comes out or not but if he does I toss him right in there.

I can't find any junior stuff on him. He was fairly well stymied by Clemson last year, but he was also still a pup as a true sophomore, so in proper context he looked good. The underlying ability seems there. Trying to picture in my head what he might look like as a 3rd & 4th year player [college], I'd have him right there with Xavier Cooper as one of the better 5-techs.

At the moment I think I'd prefer to have Jordan Phillips as a monster 5-tech collapsing the edge of the line and making outside zone success significantly more difficult.

The physical potential on him was always very good. Powerful as hell. The guy can run. He sheds blocks naturally and consistently.

I mean just look at this Aussie on the hoof. He's running as fast as DBs.

Unfortunately if you want more than that timestamp you're gonna have to hunt them yourself. I think there are plenty of full Georgia Tech games on YouTube. I'm going to keep hunting for timestamps from this Georgia game.
