does anybody know if we will get any kind of comp. picks this year ? i mean it seems as if we never get any.
I thought that was based on how many free agents you lost off your team. Not sure but that's what I understood. Someone who knows more want to enlighten me?
This is what I found about this topic: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NFL_Draft Compensatory Picks In addition to the 32 picks in each round, there are a total of up to 32 picks dispersed at the ends of Rounds 3 through 7. These picks, known as "compensatory picks," are awarded to teams that have lost more qualifying free agents than they gained the previous year in free agency. Teams that gain and lose the same number of players but lose higher-valued players than they gain also can be awarded a pick, but only in the seventh round, after the other compensatory picks. Compensatory picks cannot be traded, and the placement of the picks is determined by a proprietary formula based on the player's salary, playing time and postseason honors with his new team, with salary being the primary factor. So, for example, a team that lost a linebacker who signed for $2.5 million per year in free agency might get a sixth-round compensatory pick, while a team that lost a wide receiver who signed for $5 million per year might receive a fourth-round pick. If fewer than 32 such picks are awarded, the remaining picks are awarded in the order in which teams would pick in a hypothetical eighth round of the draft.
I've heard Randy say a couple times in interviews that the Dolphins should be recieving at least two compensatory picks because they lost more than they gained in free agency. Hopefully Kevin Carter nets us a 4th or 5th.
So if we get the first overall pick in the draft then we would also get the first leftover compensary pick as well? am i reading that correctly?
Does that not imply that a theoretical 8th round is created for unused comp picks and they are given out in the draft order of that year? Thats how im reading that.
i can't really see us getting anything mroe than a 7th. in terms of order of picks. that is only applied to the round. for example, if there are 4 teams awarded 5th round picks, then those 4 teams would pick in the order they are drafting.
http://www.miamidolphins.com/newsite/news/mueller/mueller_column.asp Q. Do you anticipate the Dolphins having compensatory draft picks and, if so, how many and in what rounds? RM: I don't know how many. We did lose more than we signed so we'll be in the pool. There is a scale or formula depending on how the players did and how much they were paid. I would imagine we will get a pick, maybe two.
That is how it is. With the Dolphins losing more players then they signed I expect them to get at least one compensatory pick from the league(probably 6th or 7th round). If the league does not give out all of the 32 compensatory picks, the remaining picks are called supplemental compensatory selections and they go into that theoretical 8th round. Obviously, we would have the first selection when it comes to the supplemental compensatory selections. So say the league uses its formula for compensatory picks and only awards 30 picks. There would then be 2 supplemental compensatory selections. Over the past 8 years, this is how many supplemental compensatory selections have been issued to teams at the end of the draft: 2007: 2 2006: 5 2005: 0 2004: 0 2003: 4 2002: 4 2001: 0 2000: 0 Odds are we will probably get a supplemental compensatory selection. It could also end up being Mr. Irrelevant.
Wes Welker would not have put up anywhere near the numbers he has if he was still in Miami. Even Hagan could be a 70-80 catch receiver in New England. Sure we gave up a very good talent, but we also locked up our starting center position for the next decade or so with Satele. Even with the numbers Welker has this year, I still agree with the trade that was made.
I know, I know. I was pretty much joking, but I still miss the guy. He played hard, but we weren't ready for him. Teams like the Pats/Colts can add guys to fill needs. Welker filled a need in NE and BB wasn't gonna pass on him. We need guys at every postion just to compete in this league, so of course a starting Center is a good deal for us.
We signed 6 and lost 7. Signed: Jay Feely Az Hakim Chris Liwienski David Martin Cory Schlesinger Cameron Worrell Lost: Darien Barnes David Bowens Toniu Fonoti Damien McIntosh Travis Minor Sammy Morris Jeff Zgonina
we also lost Donnie Jones who was an RFA and we lost Seth McKinney (though he might've been cut), and don't know if the guys that we didn't resign and didn't get picked up get us picks either (if so, Jacox,Adams, and Mathews would all get us picks) Oh and everybody enough with saying Welker was a bad move move on. Welker would never put up those numbers here, and who would we have starting at C? In the long run, you go with the C over the WR
I don't think RFAs count because teams get compensation for them the year they lose them. Such as we got a 7th for Jones last year. I got that list from the team media guide, so I'm guessing Seth was cut. Though they have made mistakes before. As for UFAs from one team who never signed with another team, I've never heard it suggested that the team they left would get any compensatory picks for them before. Since they remained available for us to resign I very much doubt that they play into the compensatory pick formula at all.
idk about that welker had like 60 something catches and he wasn't always on the field but we were more than a welker away from being a threat to anyone.but we should have kept either him or chambers you got to have one good receiver.
I actually agree with trading CC. We need a lot of upgrades so sometimes you have to be willing give up something in order to gain something
