Don't think so. Studly OL projected to go as high the 2nd round, then got injured. We've been watching his progress lately with great interest. I never saw him play but many people on this board were pretty high on him.
Yeah, if he was to sign, he would be the lightest player (tied with Dan Gore. Both at 6'5 300). Our next lightest player outside of them two weighs at 310.
A bit of info from nfldraftcountdown Pedro Sosa Height: 6-35/8 | Weight: 300 | 40-Time: 5.25 Strengths: Adequate height and bulk...Decent athleticism..Mobile with good range...Has very good feet and shuffles well...Quick and agile...Has good balance...Does a nice job in pass pro...Understands leverage...Versatile....Durable...Has a lot of experience. Weaknesses: 'Tweener who may not have a true position..Not real strong or powerful and lacks explosion...Has short arms...Weak initial punch...Doesn't use his hands well...Isn't stout at the point...Doesn't play with a nasty demeanor....May lack a killer instinct. Notes: Was a four-year starter for the Scarlet Knights..Played left tackle in college but he could project to guard, center or tackle in the NFL...May never be a starter but his versatility will be a major plus in his favor and it just might earn him a roster spot.
Based on that I'd question who on the roster should be dropped in favor of this guy? Too many weaknesses, unless we find a way to sign him just to cut him again, let him clear waivers and stash him on the practice squad.
I love it, if we keep throwing enough bodies at our Oline, eventually some of them will pan out. It's been long overdue. Keep it up guys.
Can we just sign him the PUP list? I like that versatility, he doesn't have to be very good he just has to function if someone is injured during a game.
This guy will surprise all of you, he was considered by many draft reports as high as a third rounder. I saw everyone of his games, the guy is a pit bull who shut down high powered DE and gave Mike Teel plenty of time. He will be most likely a guard at this level. PS He has a 83 inch wingspan which to me is not small, and as CK has stated, the guy has huge hands. If he is healthy, he will make this team.
Dolphins working out rookie lineman Pedro Sosa http://www.palmbeachpost.com/blogs/...ign_ro.html?cxntfid=blogs_inside_the_dolphins
I wouldn't close the book on him at OT, not when our best backup OTs are named Julius Wilson, Dan Heerspink, and Dan Gore. So what if he's 6'4". Vernon Carey is 6'4", too. He started for three years at left tackle for Rutgers in the Big East. He completely shut down George Selvie in 2007. He was the unquestioned leader of Rutgers' OL, even more so than Jeremy Zuttah. He gave up 6.5 sacks over the three year span, on a line that gave up only 38 sacks over that three year period, and helped pave the way for Ray Rice to be...Ray Rice. You can pick on his 33 inch arms but if NJFINSFAN1 is right about his 83 inch wing span then obviously either someone measured his arms wrong or he makes up for "average" arms (see Joe Thomas) with a chest wider than a Buick. Either way, he'd be hard to get around. He's got very big 10.25 inch hands, and I have no idea what Scott Wright is talking about when he says he may lack nastiness or a physical demeanor because that's certainly not the Pedro Sosa I saw play for the Scarlet Knights. That's not the Pedro Sosa I saw protecting the blind side of a quarterback that, at times, had enough time to write a novel while he waited for the pass rush...including against #1 sackmaster George Selvie. There were a lot of Jeremy Zuttah fans around here and for sure he's a good player, but at Rutgers, Pedro was regarded as better...more suited for the higher profile LT job. We don't really know what kind of workout warrior he is because of his knee injury. I've heard his athletic trainer during a game interview talk about him in the same breath as Jeremy Zuttah though in terms of their weight room and athletic prowess...and Zuttah's big selling point was how great an athlete he was. If we sign him (which would mean his knee checks out), this would probably be the best UDFA signing outside of maybe Davone Bess. Maybe. I don't see any reason to start him out on PUP or IR or anything like that. He took a knee injury in Shrine practice but the prognosis way back then was that he should be ready to go in June/July and sure enough, June/July rolls around and he's working out for the scouts and trying out for the Dolphins so until I hear more, I take it he's about on schedule, but certainly not so far behind that he'd need to sit out the first 6 weeks of the season. I don't think you even bother signing a UDFA that you're going to put on PUP. Maybe one you plan on putting on IR...especially if you're like the Patriots and you have your IR players practicing anyway (illegally). I think if Miami signs him, he'll be a full go on the first day of training camp.
There is very little doubt that both Zuttah (out of Edison, N.J.) and Sosa (from Union City) will be playing on Sundays next season. They have the size (Sosa is 6-foot-5, 290; Zuttah 6-3, 295), the strength, the toughness and the college credentials. Both have 40 times just a shade over 5.0, although Zuttah's average has settled into the 5.20 range. Sosa adds an 83-inch wingspan, having averaged a double double as a center in high school basketball. Zuttah, meanwhile, was quick enough to play defensive end in high school. http://www.realfootball365.com/index.php/articles/rutgers/10375 I know someone at Rutgers who told me about the wingspan, this is all I could find online to back me up.
LOL, I said it at the beginning of that sentence. "He gave up 6.5 sacks over the three year span, on a line that gave up only 38 sacks over that three year period"
