Firing Philbin should not be dependent on any other coaching prospect available or not. It's a decision you should be arriving at in a vacuum, easily.

Gods. I couldn't root against us. I physically couldn't do it. But should have. We should have lost. It will be the same next week. I can't root for a loss against the Jets, but they really need to murder us. This is so damn awful. We had a shot at Jim Harbaugh...and we blew it.

Good move. Im grateful we have an owner that is smarter than the average reactionary beat writer, and can see the big picture. The team is on the right track for long term success.

You've lost your ****ing mind if you think Joe Philbin would hire Rex Ryan to be DC.

Your coaching pool is white, upstanding Catholics whom Philbin has coached with or Mike Sherman would recommend. Narrowing that pool even more is that you're going to be gambling your career prospects on a coach whom should have been fired the last two off-seasons.

At this point I would basically hope they hire Mark Duffner and spare us the embarrassment of getting turned down by multiple candidates.

If they work for this franchise, no matter how inept, some fans will support them....I mean they defended this era's Matt Millen when he was here, I don't know why you'd be surprised when they defend Philbin

Joe Philbin is a bad coach, and that should be your only determination.

Rolling the dice is absolutely preferable to sticking with a known bad commodity.

Probably the exact reason he chose today. After a nice come from behind win, and a solid QB performance. Just sneak it on in there that Clueless Joe is coming back for more.

Really? You live on a planet where Ross was somehow forced into some strange position of having to retain a head coach? And there was nothing he could say or do otherwise? What the **** are you talking about man?

This crap Ross spews about expectations is nonsense. I belive he was quoted before the season amd he said spmething to the effect of anything short of the playoffs is failure. 3 seasons of 7-9, 8-8, and possibly 9-7 is not progress, it is merely mediocrity and as long as Stephen Ross is the owner that is all we will be. He has proved it again and again, I cannot wait until he sells or croaks. I will not attend a game next season, thanks for saving me the dough moron...

I think that means we are stuck with Coyle too.Why would Ryan or anyone else worthwhile would take take the DC job with a lame duck HC in tow.I wouldnt.

If they fire Coyle we would have a lesser candidate to replace him.You would think Ross would have learned by now as he has committed the same mistakes over and over again.

Take a chance on Bowles, Malzahn, even Rex. This team is not well coached. Everytime we are in position to turn the corner our team craps the bed, that is coaching folks. Philbin equals mediocrity. Ross wants Harbaugh at Michigan, it is clear where his loyalties lie.

Yup, gonna be hard to replace Coyle unless they extend Philbin, which is why I mentioned already Ross is likely to also extend Philbin at least 1 more year.

I completely agree, another year with Coyle, our defense has been atrocious. It has gotten worse every year under him and surely Philbin will not fire him. We had allowed 156 points in the last 5 games before today and another 35 today. Unacceptable, any other DC gets the boot.

I have been saying for the past two years that the real problem with this organization is ownership. Ross proved this even more today by stating that Philbin will be returning as the HC in 2015.

Obviuosly Ross is completely satisfied with mediocrity. Of course it could also be because he knows no top head coaching candidate wants to come to Miami and work for him.

I guess the half empty stadium today didn't mean anything to Ross, in regards to how fed up the fans are with how he has run this organization over the past six years.

The sooner this clueless owner sells the team the better.

After taking a couple hours to let this sink in, I'm not really vehemently opposed to Philbin getting another season if he can beat the Jets next week. I just have no faith in this owner. I don't buy the bull**** that he had his mind made up. I believe he made a huge decision based on emotion.

    Here's the good news:

If Miami fails in 2015 - we will finally have a clean sweep. Philbin will go, Hickey will go and an entirely new regime will take over. Ross will have no excuse to keep anyone.

Can we stop with this bull****?! We have no way of knowing that's the case. For all we know Harbaugh could have said he wasn't interested in coaching here. Ross could have decided even before Michigan's contact with Harbaugh that he was keeping Philbin.

For all we know, that's been his plan all along. Keep Philbin. Keep Hickey. Clean slate next year, rather than have egg on his face in the media again for cleaning house this year and firing a GM after only one year.

Nobody knows for certain that Ross would prefer Harbs in Michigan, over Miami. Surely you dont. So stop passing it off as fact. Everyone.

He's a bad head coach and the stakes are high.

He's a competent assistant head coach who interviewed well with an owner who doesn't have a ****ing clue, and is bad at virtually every single aspect of his job.

While I see your point... The clean sweep is what should have happened last year!!!!!!!! Bull**** that it has to take two years from when it originally should have happened.

Cause Philbin has shown he can lead a team to the playoffs?

No, what he has shown is that his teams underachieve, don't EVER pay 60 minutes, are often unprepared and choke late in games and late in the season.

I'm hoping this is some sort of strategy to get Ross to sell the team.. Perhaps he thinks no one would be interested if the Dolphins don't have a stable front office... I'm reaching... but man this has been the worst news of the year.

Well since I no longer live in South Florida, at least I no longer purchase the four season tickets I purchased for over 40 years.
It makes me feel good knowing that I am no longer putting 1 penny in this owners pocket.

I suspect that season tickets sales will be lower next year with the revelation that Ross is bringing back Mr. Mediocre to coach the team for a fourth season.
