Won't regret it. No other console is more family friendly with games for all ages. No other console can bring together people to play in the SAME room. Great choice to share some memories with the kids for sure.

Having fun with it so far. Picked up 2 Pro Controllers at Toys 'R Us for $29 each. I got them to price match that sale KMART had on them. Not sure if I'll be able to get into the big Ipad looking controller, but I'll give it a shot. Smash is a good time and reminding me of the good old days when I used to sit in my college dorm room baked out of my mind blasting friends with Samus from across the board on the original 64 version. One of my favorite game series of all time. Only played the Mario game for a couple of minutes last night. Not sure if I'm into it or if I like the whole kitty theme but I'll give it some more time.

The normal controller isn't great for a game like Smash, but it should be just fine for most games. It's really helpful in Wind Waker HD, for instance.

hooked up the Wii U this morning, taking the advice listed here to update and setup before waiting until Xmas. It took me roughly 40 minutes from opening the box to putting everything back in the box.

Need to get a couple more wii controllers......have a fmaily of 3, my wife enjoys the pad, I don't (we've played our friends when they bring it over).....so I need at least 2 wii controllers.....more if my extended family visits and we all wanna play mario kart or smashbrothers. I see the cheap *** china ones on ebay, but am skeptical. SEARS had them really cheap today but I missed out.

I think refurbished Wiimotes & Nunchucks are $25 from the Nintendo shop. Probably does not include shipping, however.

Not sure if you're talking about original Wii or Wii U, but if Wii U - check out this deal:

    http://slickdeals.net/f/7514616-controllers-wii-u-pro-black-28-68?v=1

Good luck finding them at KMART, but if your Toys 'R Us is as lax about price matching as mine is you should be able to get them price matched there no problem.

I'll post up my Wii U name when I get home, I'd love to get some Smashing in online with some of you guys. There's no way to say that without it sounding bad, so I didn't even try.

Yes, Wii U Pro controllers are pretty slick a lot like the Xbox controller if you're into those. For $28 bucks it's a good buy.

That sounds like a great price. I got one on Wednesday for $275 and it included Mario 3D world or something like that. This is for my kids but I feel like I'll be giving it some work too.

So is it just me or is this turning into an actually popular thread? It's kind of shocking.

Careful you don't buy too many of the classic games in the eShop. Good thing I knew about emulation beforehand, otherwise I'd be out on a crapton of money.

I never thought I'd be able to get into it. I think there's posts from me in this thread speculating it would be a bust, but if I'm being honest this is the most fun I've had with video games by far of this next generation. The games are actually fun and not the overproduced messes that are so commonplace on the other 2.

    Edited to add:

It is possible to download and run previous generation console games on the PC. Console emulation is up to roughly the PS2/DS era, and you need a pretty good PC to run a PS2 game successfully. The older the game, the less powerful your computer needs to be. You can also patch games to fix bugs, translate them, or to completely remake them; there's a booming Super Metroid patching community, for instance, that basically make their own Metroid games or challenges.

Emulation is of dubious legality, though. Emulators are legal, and owning/acquiring a backup copy of a game you already own is legal, but it is illegal to dump the BIOS of a game console (which is necessary for a console emulator to work). Nintendo and Sony aren't going to no-knock raid your house and shoot your dog, but it's still only considered technically legal if you own the original game and the original console. Most people ignore this, of course.

It's up to you if you want to emulate or to pay 5 bucks for a classic game on the eShop, PSN, etc. I would prefer to give the creators my money if I had never purchased the game before, but my favorite games to emulate are those that I bought as a kid but can't run anymore (Soul Blazer, Earthbound, etc), so I feel like I'm in a pretty good position.

Just took some time for the system to get its game library going... so glad I got this system. Excited to open up Mario Kart and Smash this weekend myself.

How has the gamecube adapter worked so far? Any noticeable lag?

Haven't used it yet. I'm the on call designee at work this week, and I spent "fun" six hours at work today as a result. I might get the chance to try it out Tuesday.

I'd assume there's no input lag, the converter shouldn't introduce a noticeable delay.

Having a hell of a time tracking down a copy of Mario Kart 8. I keep trying to find it in stores for instant gratification, I should have just ordered it from Amazon and I would have had it by now...

Like the Wii U, it's going to be a Christmas present from me, to me, with love.

Interested to hear how those work. I've read some stuff here and there, but I still don't quite get it. I've been looking for Little Mac. He's my favorite to use in Smash along with Samus, but I'm best with Kirby.

The effect depends on the game. In Hyrule Warriors, using the Link Amiibo gives you the Spinner from Twilight Princess. In Smash, it creates a custom version of the character that can be leveled up and improved.

it's funny... my son was obsessed with the PC version for a long time, well like a year... then he eventually found his way into the PVP stuff.. from there, he stopped playing it altogether. I've played it with him on the PS3.. and you can play it for literally hours... but the PS3 version, which I don't think you can modify as much as the PC version, is also not as large of a map. Still.. finding diamonds is cool and upgrading the weapons and the like...
