Jason Taylor stated today that he will play out his entire contract which has TWO years remainding. Hmmmmmm. Interesting. Could it be Taylor was planning on retiring, like he said he would, after 2008 if only he was to stay in Miami? This makes this trade an even better deal for the Redskins. Getting a two year window, perhaps even more (you never know with players), for basically a 2nd round pick, is a solid move.

How do you guys feel about this recent development?

He was traded for a 2nd and a 6th. We got 2 picks for a player that will play 1 year. Sounds like we got the better end of that deal and not the Skins.

Depends on how he preforms with the skins.

I heard him say that while listening to the PC on Sirius. I was not a happy camper. Even if he does play 2 years... we still got a great deal i think. In those 2 years I doubt we'llb e contending for anything yet, we'll be better, but not great yet. So its better to dump JT now, get 2 picks and continue rebuilding.

Personally I think if the skins have a good year and make the playoffs... JT comes back next year. If they have a bad season, he's done. Its not like he was about to stand up there at the PC today and go... "yeah... thanks for trading for me, but I think im going to still retire after this year. Oh, yeah... its good to be here though"

seeing as this 2nd round pick will likely be in the top half of the second round next season, I'm happy. The Skins won't make the playoffs in 2008, there's a reason nobody wanted to coach that team and Zorn was named by default.

    Back in Miami
It dosen't make a difference to me.

He's clearly got one foot out of football and looking forward to a different life.

JT was not going to be a factor for this team once they build it back up to a winner again even at 2 more years playing.

    Miami did the right thing.
You get value for vets that aren't in your plans or that you can't keep because of salary cap issues. You get picks for them before they walk for free. That way you keep young talent coming in the doors to stay competitive in the long haul.

In addtion, lets just wait and see what JT is saying next offseason if the Skins don't even sniff the playoffs which is a good bet IMO.

I'm glad he's gone and I'm even happier that we were able to get a 2nd rounder for him. The fact that he said this makes no difference to me, we needed to move on and he is someone elses problem now.

I would much rather grab 2 draft picks over the next two drafts and allow him to play in DC for 2 or more years, then leave him on a team he doesnt want to be on only to have him collect a check and exit in 1 or 2 years.

Give me the young bodies via the draft every time over the older unhappy ones in my system.

John Clayton was talking about this yesterday some. Basically said that for a team like the Phins, with very little shot at the playoffs and a SB for probably 2 years, bringing in a 3rd regime in 3 years, and this time really committing to a change ... no, he would not have played multiple years.
Now if he went to a contender, he might stay for another year or two, which seems to be happening possibly. If thats the case, I dont care. We got a good deal for a guy who was not playing IN MIAMI for more than a year. The Skins end of it may have just gotten a bit better, but for us it was already good enough. Non issue really

I'd love to go to the SB and beat the Redskins. Also wouldn't mind having Dallas beat the Redskins in the championship game.

There had been some people that talked already about how Taylor indicating that he'd play at least 2 years if traded to a Super Bowl contender but how he only planned on playing 2008 if stuck with the Dolphins.

    Well considering that:

#1. He didnt want to play here anymore.

#2. We get nothing if we stick to our guns and he retires or keeps talking crap and no one wants to trade for him at all.

Then yeah, we got a great deal.

I am sure he'll have a decent year as he's a great player but in the end if he was determined to not give the Dolphins an all out effort then there's no point in having him here, and the alternative of getting nothing for him is crap (compared to what we got in the end) obviously.

I'm in agreement that you guys got a great deal. Parcells has made his way not because of Free Agents but through the draft. Giving Parcells more draft picks is like giving Tom Brady Randy Moss. Not a good thing for the rest of the AFC East.

Good luck Jason Taylor. But I fill like we got the better deal we got a 2nd round pick and a 6th rounf pick. The Redskins get a player that is getting old and plus I dont hink they are going any where any time soon so it does not really help them. I mean dont get me wrong Jason Taylor is good but he will not make there team so much better that they will go to the superbowl. But hey you never know.

Who cares he is gone the Redskins won't be going to the Super Bowl soon and I don't see them even making the playoffs this year. But JT got his wish and was traded hope he enjoys watching the playoffs again.

Kinda reminds me of how i felt when Grant Hill left the Magic for the Suns only to lose in the first round of the playoffs while the Magic got to the second round for the first time since the 95-96 season!

With $17 million in salary left on his contract, do you really think he was not going to play for two more years ?? He won't make that kind of money in 2008 or 2009 in Hollywood and certainly not as a dancer...

No, it does not surprise me at all that he now says he'll play the last two years of his contract rather than retire. As to what he'd have done if he hadn't be traded, I think it was dependent on two things...1) How well we actually do this coming year. If we have a real successful year and we are contending again, he'd have played that last year here and 2) if we'd have not done as well as he wants and some offer from Tinseltown comes thru, he'd have jumped then...

We still got the better of the deal for this team and the stage of development it's in right now. That 2nd round pick will probably be a starter at some position or allow us to trade up sometime in the draft to get the guy we really want.... This team needs that much more than we need an aging great player. Besides that, do we really want to keep an aging prima dona who really doesn't want to be here ?? The negative effect on the rest of the team and the younger players has to be accounted for as part of the reason for moving him....

As much as it may seem like moving him out was not the right thing to do, it was for us for the future and for right now. That doesn't mean that in the short term, we won't miss him or his play. We will at some level. Still...it'll be worth the move...

He would of only left after one more year if he was stuck with the Phins. If washington tanks, he will only play two more. If they have a great team that is on the brink, and he's playing good, I think he stays even longer then 2 years to try to win the ring.

He had already let it be known that he was open to playing more than one year with the right team. He gave Vinny Cerrato that assurance, as there would be little chance Washington would have parted with a 2nd round draft pick if it were only for a year.

When the Skins struggle as badly as Miami this season Taylor will become disallusioned with them as well. We'll get the better end of this deal.

Taylor doesn't care about winning. He cares about being famous. Washington will make him more famous than Miami, so he will be happy.

How does Washington make him more famous than Miami? Lot more stars in Miami than Washington if that's your angle.

The fact that this team is clearly rebuilding, makes me think it was a good move on the fins part. I will def miss watching him, but picks are like gold when your rebuilding. In all honesty, I'm more annoyed that Zach was just cut without getting anything for him, then JT being traded for picks.

We cut Zach because of health concerns IMO.

It sucks that we didn't get anything for him because I would think that we could get maybe a late 4-7. But at the same time, cutting Zach was like a show of respect so that he can choose where he wants to go to finish his career and hopefully get a ring. I also wouldn't be suprised if it wasn't silently planned for him to go to Dallas. Isn't it a little strange that we got that trade with Ayodele afterwards? Either way, good for him.

I've always had waaay more respect for Zach so I have to say I'm pretty happy with how things went down. I hope he does really well in Dallas. JT on the otherhand, put himself in the position he was in and really didn't leave us any options.
