It's a giant s-t sandwich that we are going to have to eat. I hate to say it, but it's great when you see Belichick and Brady watching and breaking down film together. I really don't see Rex doing that with anybody and Belichick isn't a rah-rah screamer, but, in his own way, he does show anger and passion, etc. Then when you see Brady on the sideline screaming to the team and usually when they're winning. That's kind of what you want to see with the relationship between coach and QB and QB with the team, the two most important roles on the team. Also keep in mind, Bellichick wasn't really considered a head coaching genius until he was paired with Brady. I'm not knocking Tanne, but that's just a fact. Look at Pete Caroll before he was paired with Wilson and that great D. It is the way it is. It f'ing sucks! Enjoy that sandwich.
To replace Coyle, yes.. As HC, no. Its funny that people say bring him in as HC but let Lazor handle the offence. Isn't that exactly what we have been doing? Bring him in as the DC and leave the rest alone. I don't think its a good idea to hire a coach with a worse record than our current coach.
AS A DC Absolutely as a HC no way. Thats my position and I will stick to it. Can't let his antics get in the way of the fact that he'd be a much better DC than Coyle though. He won't be a Jet if he comes to the Dolphins. Same as Pennington.
Yes, seriously. As Ryan noted, if he had been hired by the Chargers rather than the Jets,we're probably talking about a Superbowl winning coach. I would LOVE to see Cam Wake and Dion Jordan play in a Rex Ryan scheme.
Seriously? Have you forgotten who our GM was from 08-13? Or are you secretly campaigning to keep Joe Philbin on the grounds he's had insufficient talent?
LOL really? Those teams both had QBs 10 times better than the jets were dealing with. Even a mediocre qb and he orobably beats Pittsburgh.
This team is clearly more talented than the Jets, all personal psychological issues with past executives aside.
There is also no comma after again, and no period after foolish. Philbin is still our head coach, Rex Ryan and grammar doesn't matter right now.
I really dont get why everyone wants to keep Lazor. If Rex wants to bring in his own offensive coordinator im all for it as long as his name is not Sparano.
That's kind of the point. Rex Ryan has shown very little proclivity for selecting good OCs, much less someone who improves your PPG from 26th to 12th in one season despite a slew of injuries.
Rex should keep his hands off the offense completely aside from breaking down film, backing up the OC with authority, and motivating his players. Anywhere he goes...not just here.
What does Bellichecks Cleveland record have to do anything with Rex Ryan and his 6 yrs as a head coach with a losing record? I think your just trying to deflect because there is no argument other then speculation how Ryan might have done, given he was here or there. Stats don't lie, but I will agree they also don't tell the whole story either
Harbaugh if he leaves San Fran, I would sell the farm to get this guy Pep Hamilton Indy OC Adam Gase Denver OC
i'm onboard with harbaugh, but hamilton and gase have 2 superstar QB's to work with, that kind of success comes with an * for me, i would take ryan easily over both of them
The point is that you can't always judge a head coach by his record. There are nuanced arguments to be made here which you seem quite unwilling to consider. Head Coaches aren't magicians. The best ones can get a whole that's better than the sum of its parts. But you also need some quality parts first.
What has Harbaugh won then? Oh, just cause he had a winning record? That's all that matters? For the record, I would definitely take him, but I don't see how one can fawn over Harbaugh and reject Ryan. I would absolutely give him an interview, but in that interview I want him to explain why his offenses have been as bad as they have, and what his plan to get better is. Not a massive Lazor fan, but he has been good enough to keep if we bring Ryan in. Make Rex tell me how they will work together, what kind of backup plan they will have (if Lazor gets hired away as HC) etc. Basically, I need Rex to tell me how his team won't slowly devolve.
As much as Ryan's record has to do with how well he'd in Miami. That's the point. Ryan's stats tell you nothing about how he'd fit or how he'd do in Miami yet you're implying that they're probative or predictive of something. BB's record at Cleveland was brought up to show little predictive value such stats have. Those of us who believe Ryan might be a good fit are basing it on his abilities as a defensive coach and his use of defensive personnel and the personnel we have here. We see his familiarity with the AFCE and the Jets in particular as a plus. Those factors are much more predictive than the stats you provided as the basis for your argument.
That's basically what you'd be getting if you bring in Ryan and retained Lazor as the OC. The only reason not to reverse it is that Ryan has HC experience and has motivational skills.
That could not be said any better than you just said it...kudos. You stated it clearly and with your reasons..reasons that could make it reasonable that Ryan could be a good fit.
I'd argue that Ryan's abilities as a DC are somewhat overrated. Those 2009-2010 defenses were STACKED. Revis, Cromartie, Jenkins, Scott, Ellis, Harris, etc. The Jets have spent 1st round picks on D every single season trying to maintain yet they've steadily declined. Virtually all of his major contributors were either 1st rounders or acquired from other teams, his player development record is abysmal. Richardson and Wilkerson have panned out but Coples, Gholston, Milliner, Wilson? Not so much. Our path to contention is continuing to support and build around Tannehill, something that IMO Ryan is ill suited for. The thought of spending our next 5 first round picks on defense while the offense withers away doesn't excite me at all.
I would love to have Cowher as a HC. Would have taken Gruden had he not signed up for more MNF. I will take a stab at Rex. I think he's a great motivator and better than most other coaches available.
I am willing to consider what your saying. Head Coaches depending who you may or may not be referring to have a way of doing things. I think that a "great" coach would surround himself with the best possible people for each part as you say. I agree. But that HC must let his choices do there thing. I think we saw that this year during the San Diego game when Philbin was away on family business (I did not know that until recently). Our "people" were allowed to game plan without or with very little interrference and we smoked San Diego 37-0. I was questioning Philbin before the guy ever took the field for his first game. Just the choice of QB coach had me scratching my head. Who in their right mind would give Tannehill, who you are going to live and die by, a rookie coach. The whole philosophy all across the board with Philbin has been flawed from day 1. Even Philbin insisting he keep on Sherman. Does Rex Ryan know defense. He does. Can he run a team as Head coach. I don't think so and I have 6 yrs of proof. We can blame it on whom ever but the fact remains the head coach is responsible. Would I like to see Rex Ryan as our defensive coordinator..........Hell yes. Would be one of the best Moves we would have made since Shula. Head Coach - No Thanks
