Rex Ryan is 45-49. Please, please no more retreads http://www.pro-football-reference.com/coaches/RyanRe0.htm
Oh hell yeh I'd want Rex as our HC. He's an elite defensive mind, he'd have no issues keeping Lazor and Hickey. We would get the continued development of RT17...we would get a ballsy coach whom players play hard for. We also get a coach who knows this division in and out. Rex is a very good coach.
You should be amazed he's had that many wins with his QBs. Also he had a winning record before being saddled with Geno Smith for his craptastic Sophmore year.
He's had zero talent at quarterback and still coached in 2 AFC championship games, I would take him over Harbaugh. I think his personality and relationships fit better with our team.
I fully expect that a retread is exactly what we'll get. I don't expect that Ross is likely to hire a first time head coach again. And I don't see retread coaches as necessarily a negative. The coaches in the last SB were both retread coaches.
Better than a coach thats 0-0 We know Rex would maximize our teams talent and not be afraid to take risks.....
There are only 2-3 guys I'd consider who haven't been NFL Head Coaches. Malzahn, Dan Quinn in Seattle, and Todd Bowles.
Rex would be an interesting choice. Keeping Lazor would make me happy. RockyRaccoon, who lives in NJ, says Jets fans would absolutely hate it. The idea is growing on me.
If there was no other reason this would nearly be enough! Seriously, I would really consider Rex as long as we always had a good OC (for the record, I think Lazor is the guy). Rex has only vaguely heard about offense from something he read on the back of a Wheaties box. I've always like his loud and boisterous manner and his defenses are always stellar. Guys love to play for him and they are always motivated. If Rex would stay out of Offensive strategy and play calling I think it could work. At the very least it would make this team far more interesting than its been for twenty years.
While I agree that all three should be on the list, I think that the first two will be given serious consideration.
2009 9-7 2010 11-5 2011 8-8 2012 6-10 2013 8-8 2014 3-11 Games over .500: -4 Super Bowl Wins: 0 Overall Championships: 0 Conference Championships: 0 Division Championships: 0 I must be reading this wrong
Look at what? 4-2 is his postseason record. He's been in 2 AFC Championships. The 92' season was the last time we've been in that game. I was 6 and have no recollection of it. Yes, I want a coach who has the ability to take us there.
You are. You're reading it devoid of context. How about this? 1991 6-10 1992 7-9 1993 7-9 1994 11-5 1995 5-11 Games over .500: -8 Super Bowl Wins: 0 Overall Championships: 0 Conference Championships: 0 Division Championships: 0 That was Belichick's resume before going to New England. He was another retread coach who was known for his defense and crappy offenses. But he developed and found a better QB. The key in addition to Brady was that he learned from his first stint. This doesn't mean that Rex is destined to be a future HOF coach, but it does show that any argument based on the above record and list of championships is meaningless.
Quinn Im a bit iffy on I won't lie. Any time a guy has been in the league eemingly forever but hasn't been a serious HC candidate it gives me pause. However I do like his work resume and I'd give him a serious interview.
His QB's have been Mark Sanchez, Greg McIlroy, Geno Smith, and a 50 year old Mike Vick. It's amazing he won as many games as he did. The fact that he took a Sanchez lead team to back to back AFC championship games is mind boggling.
if lazor would stay on as OC and we could keep hickey(the guy has done a good job in one year IMO) then i would take rex in a heartbeat. the guy has been given ****ty players since he has been head coach. if he could come here with what we have been building i think he could be a very good coach for the dolphins.
Another benefit of Rex Ryan... He knows the division, including Miami. He wouldn't have to dedicate a lot of time understand our team or our opponents (outside of the Jets, who will have a new HC). Could make for a fast transition.
I hear the same stuff about Hickey being said. What has he done that is at all notable? Free agency brought only two new starting caliber (one, depending on who you ask) linemen, left tackle Branden Albert and guard Shelley Smith, to a team that needed to replace four offensive linemen. Hickey also landed the injury-prone Jason Fox as the only depth signing. This left Hickey with obvious holes to fill in the 2014 NFL Draft. http://www.thephinsider.com/2014/7/...ins-gm-dennis-hickeys-offenisive-line-rebuild
And he lost both 30-17 Indy 24-19 Pittsburg I want a couch who can take us there too. His name is not Rex Ryan
That's your response? That he lost both? You think I didn't already know that? Rex Ryan has proven he can get there. So your statement of "his name is not Rex Ryan" doesn't make sense.
He's done more with arguably less talent than we have over that span. He will get the best out of the guys we have currently. If he's willing to let someone else handle the offense I'm ALL for it.
He lost those games with friggin mark Sanchez at qb. What playmakers did they have? Braylon Edwards? It's incredible he got those teams there and nearly beat Pittsburgh.
So who is this great coach that's won super bowls and is available and wanting to coach? I notice you never responded about Belichick in Cleveland.
Last time we took a New York Jets "outcast" and "retread" in Chad Pennington it resulted in the teams last playoff appearance and an 11-5 record. I'm on board. I've always felt Rex Ryan was a good coach. The Jets fans I talk to know GM and talent is the problem with that team, not coaching.
Yeah...I mean we should probably hire....ummm....that guy with multiple super bowl appearances who is available and wants to coach. Who is that guy again?
Really? He had Mark friggen Sanchez as his QB and he nearly beat Pittsburgh. Rex Ryan is a really good coach, I'd bet we would have made the playoffs this year with the talent we have if he was head coach.
No, you're reading it correctly. However, you are mistakenly asserting that one stat tells an entire story. It's like denying that a global warming trend doesn't exist because it was cold in your neighborhood this morning.
Pat Kirwan of CBS and Sirius NFL radio recently made a really good point on his radio show about fans who always scream the loudest for the coach to be fired. They are always pretty slow to create a list of at least 5 qualified applicants to replace the incumbent. And 5 is a conservative number. There could be more than 5 head coaching vacancies this season. The bottom line is: Rex Ryan is a qualified applicant, and if you want Philbin gone, and 2socks, you've been pretty adamant about that, then Rex Ryan is going to be a guy you better get comfortable with as a potential replacement. Because the other options, aside from a few pipe dream scenarios, are likely to be worse.
I really didn't want Rex as HC but it's grown on me. Rex or Harbaugh are fine by me and I'd only consider Lazor if he brought Rex in. My concern then would be once Rex gets a HC offer 2-3 years from now what Lazor would do.
Not trying to be that guy, but just so you know, it is scapegoat not escape goat. Again i like ot point these things out because I don't want anyone using the wrong phrase in a business setting and made to look foolish
