I actually did this last week and do it from time to time, but more as an attempt to jinx Miami into winning rather than an emotional hedge. I almost never win bets when I bet over $20. So I laid $25 on the Ravens straight up. Unfortunately, it didn't work. I made $32, but it did little to ease the pain. This week I have $40 on the Patsies straight up to win $7. If Miami wins, it will be $40 well spent.
You gotta get up around 1% of your weekly income. At that point the win by the other team will ease the pain a good bit I presume.
Here's how you watch today's game (and still keep the last shred of your sanity). Don't forget to reload during half-time. You'll likely be done with that halfway through the second quarter.
I'm preparing myself for a 62-7 style beatdown.. I imagine by midway through the first half I'll be feeling exactly how I felt that glorious Sunday after 1 Jacksonville drive.
Maybe so, but that would also get to a point where if Miami wins it's going to take a lot of the joy out of it for me.
I absolutely hate myself for doing this.... but I'm looking at my three team parlay right now and I have the Pats over Dolphins and the Jets also winning as two of my three.
Barring some sort of insanity here, I just won some money on a first-half bet on the Patriots -6. Now I don't feel so bad going into the half. Hopefully the Dolphins come back and pull this one out.
How about Philbin using all three of those time-outs and then throwing a bomb? I guess he wasn't feeling real queasy.
Self preservation. A small pressure valve for the crushed fan within, as well as anyone potentially within range of flying shrapnel. Its not a perfect fix, as there's inevitably a trade off. When Miami mows through an opponent, you felt inclined to "insure" against, it leaves any post-game celebration somewhat diminished.
Right, but you don't bet on any games where there's a chance of that. In this one there was no such chance.
I watched none of it. Its bad enough to recover from surgery, let alone be forced to watch the Dolphins in another December game they had no chance of winning.
The sad thing is...New England didn't even try until the 2nd half at which point they woke up and blew the doors off us.
I by no means EVER view it as profiting from a loss, only a feeble attempt to recoup some thin shred of solace in witnessing the devastation week in and week out, month after useless month, year after yet another wasted year, decade aft..
Try watching it with a house full of Patriots fans and THEY even see how Tannehill gets left out to dry. Got a lot of pity pats on the back today. Pissed me off until no end.
I can't not watch the Dolphins. It's like a drug to me. Even down 20+ points yesterday I was checking the score while at the gym.
