He talking about as a wide out. Not in the slot. Maybe take Hartline's place. I think it is likely. Depends what WR they add to the team next season. I think Hartline should go. Getting older and can save cap. And he doesn't do that much anymore.
I don't know..you worried?.... Isn't there a way you can check the site to see when he last logged in?
He's probably trying on skinny jeans and debating whether he wants to bet his bank roll on us to cover the spread this week. I'm sure he's fine. Hes a good/smart guy.
I think they should be looking at giving Jarvis Landry more work outside of the slot. He's not performing quite as efficiently outside the slot as he is in it, but he's still quite good in that regard for a rookie. I'm not sure Landry is wasted as a slot receiver, but I think you can use his body positioning and catching skills down the line.
Ideally I'd want Landry wide as a possession guy, someone like Vincent Jackson on the other side as a bigger, downfield guy, and someone with speed and wiggle like Tavon Austin in the slot. Couple that with a Lamar Miller who can take the ball the distance in the run game or on screens, and a big-bodied pass-catching tight end like Gronkowski or Jimmy Graham, and now you really have something. You have a high number of mismatch players on the field, coupled with a very reliable possession guy (Landry) who can help move the chains.
I think that it depends on what the offensive scheme is next year. I'd like to see the team add a big playmaker on the outside via the draft and keep Landry in the slot for 2015. Still, I think that whatever his role, he could challenge for the team record in receptions for a single season, given his comfort level with RT.
I'm not concerned with where he lines up. He is a great football player. He will always be a guy that can be counted on no matter where you put him. But, to answer the OP... the likelihood he might line up outside next season? I think he will wind up being a guy who lines up everywhere, but, you'll see him mostly in the slot.
Here's some current Landry stats: He has run 77.4% of his routes from the slot(8th among starters) His yards per route run is 1.86(5th among slot receivers) He's is proportionately the heaviest-target slot receiver(23.9% of his snaps in the slot he's thrown at) His catch rate is 79.4%(1st among slot receivers) His overall yards per route run(Which I think is an excellent measure of efficiency) is 1.79. So he's less efficient out of the slot, but overall he's 24th in the league.
That's how I've been. I've been on here maybe made one or two posts, haven't clicked on most of what I see as ridiculous over reaction threads, and quite frankly don't feel like disputing all this ridiculousness I see on here. It was a horrible game but people are quick to forget all the good things about this season and want to get rid of everyone including Hickey who has done a great job. There is a lot of people to blame about the Ravens game, but it is still one game. This team, this year, with a tough schedule and multiple injuries, has been a huge success compared to the last decade. If we keep this game together, get healthy, add a couple of key starters and get some depth, with next year's schedule, everyone should be happy next year. If we do what the majority of these threads are suggesting, we can do what we've been doing since our glory days, which is keep rebuilding every 3 years. The insanity thread cracks me up because it is in favor of the insanity we have been experiencing every 3 years.
OK, I guess we need to give him reps to see what he can do so id be down with it during the last three games.
Why would you waste money or draft pick on a big play receiver? It has been established our offense does not throw the ball over 20 yards so it seems like that would be a wasted pick.
Getting a big play WR isn't going to solve the problem either way. To improve the deep ball, they need to start with getting players that can protect Tannehill better.
I'm not talking about deep passes. I don't give a **** about them. I want a WR who can outposition and outmaneuver DBs for 8-15 yard catches and then get YAC on a constant basis.
That's a matter of practicality, not philosophy. When Miami picks up a deep threat that performs, they'll throw deep.
We don't have a WR that can reliably make a play down field... so we don't throw down field. We don't have a good deep threat...
LOL, I get your point, but when I watch other teams play on Sunday Ticket every week, it seems that most other teams, even ones with lousy quarteracks and/or recievers (clearly lesser than our own) make plays where the reciever gets open for a 10-15 yard catch on the run, makes a guy miss, and ends up picking up 20-30 yards. We see other teams do it to us every week, and our defense is pretty good. But somehow, its been missing from our game since Marino retired. Actually, it wasn't there much during Jimmy's reign either. How can something seemingly so commonplace around the league be so completely absent from our team?
Well, in all fairness, chunk-yardage plays were not completely absent from the offense earlier in the year. Before we hit a string of injuries, we were getting more and more of those plays. This is just a hunch, but, could you be comparing one team (us) to every other team all at once? When the NFL network starts showing game highlights it can seem like other teams are just making big play after big play. The reality is, most teams struggle as bad or worse than we do. When we lose a game, it's easy to forget that 23-yard scamper by Hartline on a crossing route in the 1st quarter that was negated by a 12-yard sack the very next play which killed the drive. Or, a 28-yard catch-and-run by Damien Williams that miraculously converted a 3rd and 23. Yet, we still had to punt due to a WR dropping a 3rd down pass four plays later. The point is, we actually are getting those plays. Certainly more than in previous seasons. We just haven't seen that nearly as much in the last 2-3 weeks. We still have room for improvement. There's no doubt about that. However, this offense is head-and-shoulders better than it was last season, and IMO, is the best offense we've had since Marino was under center. I'm not trying to be argumentative. I just think it's not quite as bad as you think. I agree that we need a playmaker on offense. I'm just not convinced he absolutely needs to be a WR. I think if we had an Adrian Peterson at RB or a Vernon Davis at TE, our WRs would be more than adequate.
I would seriously like the Dolphins to hire the Steelers WR Scouts as well as their WR Coach. They always seem to hit it out of the park on their WR's no matter what school the receivers come from or the round they are drafted.
I kind of like Nick O'Leary the TE out of FSU in the draft. I also like Clive Walford the TE out of UM. Does anyone have suggestions of any other College TE that I can take a look at?
He's not a traditional in line blocking TE, but Devin Funchess from Michigan looks like he could be a very good recieving TE in the right offense. He may prefer to be considered a big WR though.
Oh, that's right...I forgot about Funchess though I don't know how..Thank you and Now I can review his career.
