A lot of it had to do with penalties, specifically false starts. Tough to run consistently when you're starting drives that way.
And the problem with that, in addition to the obvious imbalance offensively, is that early in the game Lamar Miller looked like he was going to play like someone the team needed to spur the win. Between the start of the game and when the Dolphins went up 10-0, Miller had a far greater proportion of touches than he had the remainder of the game, and he was averaging over five yards per touch. After the Ravens scored and made it 10-7, it's as if Lazor panicked and stopped using Miller, which then left the game on Tannehill and the receiving corps' shoulders, and no one from that unit stepped up and made plays in the way Miller had previously. It's as if they took the one offensive player who showed up and played capably enough to help the team win and simply shut him down. There's no reason why Lamar Miller shouldn't have finished that game with over 100 yards rushing and over 75 yards receiving. He could've helped spur them to a win.
If I recall Miller had a 10-12 yard run in the second half and did the "feed me" motion to the sideline.....didnt see him again. lmao what a joke.
Yeah, Tannehill made no plays that were called back by phantom penalties or drops. It's horrible that we ran it 3 times in the second half. It's also horrible that our oline consistently kills drives, but Tannehill gets the blame for this stuff.
I felt that we were a little pass-heavy while watching the game, but considering the situations, it wasn't as epic a failure in play-calling as that stat would make out. I think there were mistakes made, but it wasn't monumental. We certainly wanted to win by throwing the ball. We probably should've found a better way to test their secondary deep. If anything, I'd say that was the failure.
i mean like seriously lol, your at home, you freakin attack the opponent to get up on them..this is in the book ''how not to be conservative in football''
We barely ran the ball. These coaches suck. Why are we running the ball? These coaches suck. No-win situation when your offensive line sucks *** (granted, drastically crippled by injury).
Lazor stated that Tannehill had run/pass options in the second half and he chose to pass. Sounds like an excuse to me.
Two problems. 1. RT is given responsibility like he is a Marino. That, he is not. OC should limit him severely in these decisions, and significantly limit the number of passes. We are better off when Ryan passes less for two reasons. One is Ryan is not good at making decisions, and second the line is not good at blocking. This is a no brainer. 2. OC is an idiot for not being in control of the game and for not calling a balanced attack. Ryan Tannehill cannot be a better playcaller than OC, that cannot happen. Second, allowing circumstances to dictate whether it's a pass or run goes back to the OC who has no control of the game. Third, when balanced attack works in game after game, and heavy passing does not work game after game, playcalling the heavy passing amounts to dereliction of duty.
We also were substituting in Williams for Lamar Miller. I remember one 3rd down play where Williams catches a ball and can't make a man miss for the first down. Miller might have made that play. WTF were we saving Lamar for that he couldn't play that 3rd down? The offseason? Our season was on the line in this game. He had only had something like 10 carries at that point.
Philbin and company are terrible at game management, this has been known for a long time. I'm not sure why you expect anything differently. I get rotating players to keep guys fresh, but do it in the right situations, don't just follow the script you have in your head that oh... it's the 3rd offensive drive. Sit Lamar. It's the 3rd defensive drive. Wake, Odie, OV... get off the field.. Time for Mitchell, Shelby and Fede or whoever. I'm ok with doing it, but be smart and flexible about it. How many times have we seen Wake on the sidelines near the end of games in obvious passing situations... why?!?
especially when your longest td of the season is 21 yards and haven't hit on one pure deep throw all season.
