Ok, so this is not an angry or emotional rant, but just an objective look at what i think is holding this team back most of all. I am actually not angry at this point, and I think it is because, as soon as that great pass to Wallace was called back for that nonsense illegal man down field penalty, i just knew the game was over once Balt drove and scored. What I actually think all of our problems stem from from defense, to QB, etc. is one main thing. . . I think that our Coaching is just not good enough at the top. T The HC has to be a motivator, someone who you want to fight and lay it all on the line for, someone who will yank guys who are not puling their weight, The HC is Someone who will hold you accountable for not following through. Our Defense fails in the most clutch situations, our QB and OC (both of who i think are quite good and have great potential) are refusing to take shots downfield b/c they want to play it safe. etc. IMO, Philbin is not a bad coach, but he is not what the Miami Dolphins need. Philbin's teams are "soft" and i don't mean that as a generalized derogatory statement either, What i mean is that our teams are meant to pass a lot and to play against the pass on Defense. IMO, the only way for Philbin to ever have a superbowl contending team, would be to have a team that just throws it all over the field and destroys teams with a super fast tempo and relentless points stacking up. His teams cannot win close, and they cannot play when it counts in the trenches. (as we've seen with recent superbowl winners, that also does not guarantee a championship) We have ball plays on this team who can, but Philbin just does not bring the toughness out of them. We practiced really once this week on Thursday, we never seem physical, we never play angry. We shrug bad plays off, and eventually let games slip away. In my opinion, the best thing that can happen to this team is to finish at 8-8, or 7-9, i know i know - call me a "Bad fan" all you want, but we need to move on from Philbin after this season. I do believe we have a franchise QB hanging in the balance, with a very solid GM ready to put good players around him and on defense, but RT is not the kind of QB that will hang 50 points on teams every week, and so Philbin is not the guy to coach this team. We don't play on the west coast, we play against the Bills, Pats, and Jets every year - we need to play hard nosed football. Give me a Rex Ryan or a Harbaugh. I would prefer Rex i really would. I believe he has learned lessons, and he is not meddling with the offense, getting rid of tanny, or firing Lazor. Ross likes to do piecemeal type things anyway, so i could see him saying Lazor/ryan have to stay and bringing Rex Ryan on. I think with this roster, a hard-nosed tough, brash personality like Rex could really get us over the hump. Thoughts?
after that play to wallace was called back, the gd coach called a wide receiver screen on 3rd and 34 wtf - if that doesn't scream we give up I don't know what does anyone who tries to defend this ******* deserves to be shot in the ****ing head
Sparano is beating Harbaugh, in a playoff implications game for the Niners, 24-13. Rex Ryan is 2-11. I'm sure you'd prefer a season like that and no hope of improving.
I was on record that Sparano deserved to have more time. What this franchise did to that guy is not right. He bled aqua.......love Tony Sparano
Dude u r ****ing delusional if you are still defending this coach.3 years and out of playoffs again.Stupid coaching staff cant fiqure out that they need a rb to chip elvis.Thomas was getting beat on almost every pass attempt.
I can see where a lot of you are coming from but I'm exactly the opposite. I don't believe in emotional coaches. I'll take the calm, wise and deliberate type in the long run: McCarthy, Belichick, Peyton, Dungy, Lovie Smith, etc. To me, the emotional guys burn out after some initial run of 4-5 years: Harbaugh, Ryan, they all do it. When the right pieces are in place, a Harbaugh or Ryan can get you over the hump with a good rallying cry but this league is more about talent acquisition and long-term planning which is why the Philbin types ultimately win out.
So their conference championship appearances mean nothing? or the fact that ever since Rex went to his second one with a QB worse than Tanny, the front office has been gutting his teams every year. If we keep improving in 1 game increments, i suppose we win a superbowl right before tanny is set to retire. its more likely that we continue to hover around .500 with this coach. As for the post regarding emotional coaches - you are entitled to your take of course, and of course not every great coach was super emotional. BUT, Shula, Lombardi, Parcells, Coughlin, all HARD NOSED coaches, Leaders of men, TOUGH sons of B*TCHES who had guys playing HARD. Sean Peyton is also from the Parcells coaching tree as is BB. Now, they may mix X's and O's with it, but trust me, they are hard asses. Philbin picks up gum wrappers.
The problem is this team, right now, needs that kind of hc. If we had one, we'd be a playoff team. Last year too.
Stop me if you've heard this one before. The Phins are in the playoff hunt with 4 games to go and fold. Consistent inconsistency, with the exception of being inept. That sums up Philbins time here so far. We'll see if it happens this year.
At this point , GIVE ME THE CLOWNS WHO HAVE GOT THEIR TEAM TO THE PLAYOFFS! The only thing worse than watching this team fail is to come here and read your tired comedy act. I find nothing amusing about the "show" you like to put on here. Get a chuckle that people get steamed reading your "on cue" responses. We fail once again and its the "give Philbin a 10 yr extension". Shula and Coughlin are more similar to Philbin?!!! In what sense? They both walk upright? You are more concerned about Harbaugh losing today than 3 yrs of mediocrity with Joe? Both those "clowns" have championship games under their belt. Sad part is I do not think Joe is a bad guy, just in over his head...Same with some posters here who think it is Karaoke Night or 3 mins of stand up comedy in the local bowling alley lounge.
I see where you're coming from. I really do. The team seems to lack direction and it's not unfathomable the the right coach could do it. However, when I see the kind of youth and "meh" talent that still managing to hang around Miami (you know, the Jimmy Wilsons of the world), I kind of think that we haven't quite fixed every hole but that it's on the agenda. We have taken obvious strides with acquiring Tannehill, James, Landry, Albert and others. I think we need to do the simple thing first, which would be fix the Guard sitation next year in the same way we fixed the Tackle issue this year. Again, it's just about weighing the options and seeing if there's an easy way to achieve your goals.
I notice Bill Cowher seems to really like this team when he talks about them on CBS. Is he completely done with coaching? No to Harbaugh or Rex for me. I just do not think they'd be right. Rex gave his all to the Jets. I would not want his emotions getting in the way of his coaching abilities when Miami plays the Jets. Harbaugh just rubs me the wrong way, and while he is a good coach, he inherited a talented squad. I just do not know that he'd be the "right fit" for this team. I am okay with Philbin if they win out. I mean, this team just cannot get a break with these injuries. While I am not making excuses for him, there have been some really hefty ones. Just bad luck for the guys out there.
The best ending to this season would be the complete sale of the team to a rich Dolfan who'd then hire successful football people.
No offense, but I'd prefer to miss the playoffs than get in and put on a display like today. While recent injuries were certainly a factor, today was an embarrassing loss in a must win game against an inferior team. I don't need the playoffs to reinforce what we already know...this team is simply too beat up to compete at playoff levels.
I would rate a vision for a team coupled with the ability to form that vision as more important than adjustments. I view a solid game plan that allows players to maximize their potential as more important than adjustments.
Unfortuntely we don't seem to have a coaching staff which has the vision or game plans, to get this team beyond the same mediocre team it has been for the last three years of the Philbin regime.
I really meant a playoff caliber team. I totally agree with your opinion...This team wth these injuries is NOT a playoff team. Was really addressing Dez's comparison to Harbaugh and Ryan
