Absolutely. Kicking success percentages have skyrocketed. No, the act of kicking the ball through two posts is the same, you're correct. But kickers are getting better overall. They're bred from pee-wee football nowadays. I think in the late 80's and early 90's you still had guys toeing the ball. Have you read my posts? All one needs to do is look at stats. Relatively speaking, Caleb Sturgis is not good when compared to the other 32 NFL kickers. His percentage overall is at the bottom of the league for his career. And his percentage from 40+ is also well below average towards the very bottom of the league.
Carpenter has been good, but remember with Carpenter you waste an extra roster spot. He can't kick off and Buffalo has to roster a kickoff specialist. Not to mention the Bills aren't paying Carp what the Fins would have had to if we didn't cut him.
A kicker in his second year.. Who just has to kick field goals.. Misses crucial ones. And you are ok with keeping him around.. Yet you hate our QB? Really?
there are 2 kickers that have a 100% field goal conversion this year. i remember in the 90's there would be 5-10 kickers in this range....
