Thank God he's gone. I said a long time ago Snyder was the kind of guy who would pick up an aging veteran with a big salary, and glad Parcells and Co. made it happen.

great move by our new front office. i would have liked to have jt play here this season but it was apparent he did not want to be here. getting a 2nd and 6th for a guy who last week told the world he was only playing football one more year is excellent. nice work from ireland and the tuna, stuck to there guns.

Great trade for Miami!! Let the youngsters get in there and play and see what they are made of. We got a second AND a sixth. And to think, some people were saying to dump JT for a 4th or even lower, LOL!

Nice job by Ireland really biding his time and being patient and willing to accept not trading JT, it paid off.

As for JT, good luck man, the Skins have an outside shot, maybe you can take them further, who knows. Thanks for all your long service in Miami, with you and ZT gone, an era has ended and a new one begun.

From other reports, it seems like Merling will be up front...I'd say watch out for Charlie Anderson or Quentin Moses; we've heard a good deal about both of them.

I think it was an awesome move for us, and a terrible move on Snyder's part. IMHO, a 2nd round pick alone is alot to give up for a team that isn't one or two players away from SB contension. It's also alot to give up for a player who is teetering on retirement.

Like Muck said. Sounds like a desperation move. Sounds like vintage Daniel Snyder.

Hey Aqua, not to "trash talk" but how's your previous prediction of 6-10 going to change now?

I think your FO made a smart, football move. It was obvious Jason did not want to play for Miami anymore as he wanted to play for a contender in his final year (even though with Dallas, the Giants and Eagles in the same division, I don't see Washington as more than at best a Wild Card team, even with Taylor). Why not get something for him now instead of watching him walk after another under .500 season? The guy is a total scumbag.

The thing about "Q" is that he never has played LB at any level, that would give Anderson a leg up, or maybe Ninkovich.

I see Q as more of a situational passrusher for us this year, I'd love for him to prove me wrong though...

These idiots have him for all of two seconds and he is already being put in a position to not excel.

Must be from the Dom Capers school. Put Joey's hand in the dirt and waste his ability to do what he does best, rush the QB from the OLB position (two point stance).

Why do people take something that works (Jason as a hybrid Weakside OLB/RDE) and then decide to NOT use it the way it is proven to be successful? Are they just dumb?

Anyways, maybe he'll still do well anyways, but I think he'll get ragdolled around by the combo blocks of the TE and RT.

Honestly I don't care what kind of BS charity work or how many ASPCA commercials the guy does. It is all for the good looks, not because he actually cares. Most of the players do those things to get their names out there in good graces and to try to show they have a humble side. I'm not buying it. You show your true colors when you sit out because you don't want to play for a team you signed a contract for and you would rather dance on TV, making the MNF theme song look like a homosexual theme song, instead of playing Football. And the thing I hated most was hearing out this great shape he was in. Thats awesome. Dance shape means nothing come Football season.

This is great news and a set of big wins.

BIG WIN: The Front Office showed other FO's around the league that we are hard negotiators, but that you can still do business with us. We are not to be low-balled, nor taken advantage of. Also, players with egos will not get their way unless it is how the club wants it - we set a price and unless it was met Jason's arse was staying put in Miami

BIG WIN: Instead of potentially retiring and us getting nothing (as per Phinsrock) we now have 2nd and 6th round picks coming to us to help with rebuilding. That means three picks in the top 64 next year. Not bad. There's a #1 WR, #1 CB and one more of anything you want, right there.

BIG WIN: We clear a TON of cap space (See Clumpy's article on JT's Trade/Release Cap Implications in our Salary Cap Forum) that can be used to sign other, younger talent. For example, we could use that to extend Vernon Carey, who is in the last year of his contract and will cost a premium to keep. We can lock up promising players long-term, early now without letting them test the free agency waters.

BIG WIN: We transmute lead to gold.... by buying TIME. One or two more years of Taylor has potentially become six, eight, ten years of benefit from a 2nd and 6th round pick.

BIG WIN: No divisive undercurrent in the locker room. I am not saying Taylor is a bad seed at ALL. But, his presence would create discussion about his happiness, the friction, the new regime and how they are treating him, does he like it etc etc... it is all a distraction and potentially could affect the team's mentality. Does an army unit benefit from a guy who doesn't get along with the unit commander and makes a point of letting people know about it behind closed doors? As Jimmy Johnson learned with Marino, it can be dangerous to have a very influential player on a team, an icon, a team leader, NOT buying into you or your system. Good or bad, this means the new players will listen to Sparano and Parcells like loyal Moonies and believe whatever they're told.

BIG LOSS: Jason doesn't mentor Jake Long. Jake could improve massively by being taught by Jason how to handle speed rushers like Jason. Long struggles a bit against speed rushers and this could have helped Jake be much better. Still, Taylor, the jerk, could have come to the voluntary practices and started helping the rookie if he gave a crap about the well-being of the Dolphins, but he opted not to bother. He didn't care about Jake learning (despite Sparano, Jake, and others specifically saying it would help Jake a lot to have Jason teach him) as much as he cared about his own standoff with the team. Maybe he was just avoiding injury (as then he wouldn;t get traded).

Nonetheless, Jason wasn't acting like a member of this team long before today's trade.

At the end of the day, I thank Jason for all he did while he was here and hope he does well elsewhere. I don't think he deserves a Superbowl ring, as he is more about himself than team. I do hope he gets into the Hall of Fame for his individual accomplishments. Since his mentality is more ego-centric, imo, I think his rewards should be commensurate.

Spot on, the only other "big win" that could be added is now JP will move to the spot he should be playing at, and a young player will get a shot to play now, we knew what JT could do for us, now we can legitimately let a youngster have a chance.

He obviously did not care anymore about the organization because as you said he hadn't showed at anything thus far and was probably just going to be a whiney piece of garbage all throughout August in Training Camp. Long can learn against some pass rushers in the East (Schobel, Gholston, Pace, Seymour & A.Thomas) just fine.

gimme a break dude. you hate Taylor because he called out Jets fans and their low class reputation and antics. he's a huge contributor to world-wide, national, and miami based charities. he didnt air his dirty laundry through the media, like guys like farve and ocho-cinco. to call him a total scumbag renders your posts worthless.

so lets talk about something more your speed: what will the headlines read this year "Mangenious" or "Mangidiot"? massive overspending for old or unproven free agents probably has you guys thinking the former.

Low class? The guy wants to spew his mouth at the fanbase and crys when the fans dare say something back to him and get on him all the time because his teams can't beat ours anymore. Oh yeah, such low class right there.

He didn't air his dirty laundry? Really? Last I checked he "aired" that he wanted to play for a contender.

    Old and unproven, eh?

Kris Jenkins is I believe 27? Super old. Alan Faneca still one of the best LG's in the game and has made seven straight Pro Bowl's. You're right, he sucks. 31 isn't old for Offensive Lineman. Calvin Pace was given too much money, you're right, but Parcells wanted him and thats good enough for me (for the most part, because Bill can miss). He did have a breakout season, for him, in the 34 last year.

But hey, you're right, we could've given all our money to inconsitent players who made better by playing on the team they were playing on (Reggie Torbor) or old Defensive Tackles (Jason Ferguson, but he's awesome and Jenkins is old, right?).

2008 is a rebuilding year in Miami. This is the year for Long to struggle and I"m sure they expect him to struggle somewhat. If he comes in and he's the next Joe Thomas, even better. They need to start playing up to his #1 overall pick calibear in 2009 and beyond, 2008 is a learning curve for many Miami players.

In the words of comedian DL Hughley, "you need Jesus!"

Seriously, you've got to get over your irrational hatred of Jason Taylor. I'm sure you've never met him, and most definitely have not spent time with him in a personal setting, so you're in no position to make such an overriding judgment on his character.

I hope he does well in his future ventures, and I'm thrilled with the move in terms of the Dolphins' rebuilding efforts...regardless of whether or not JT is a scumbag (I'm sure he's not).

How so? The coaches say that Merling is going to play DE in the 3-4, a position that Taylor would never have played even if he'd stayed. He would have been an OLB.
