Agreed with everything except the Jeremy Foley stuff. Ppl need to get off his ****ing back. He's probably the best athletic director in College Sports. Fact is Florida is a football school and the program is down. He's also the guy that hired Meyer too tho. I also don't want Mullen, Stoops, or especially Kiffin. We need someone who like Spurrier said was going to be around for 10 years. I'd like to get Hugh Freeze. Heard Foley really like Gus Malzahn, but they would have to offer a ton of money.
While I agree he is probably one of the best ADs in the nation, like you said Florida is a football school. Most of the boosters really want the football program to be top notch. I honestly feel if he hires ANOTHER coach that was as bad as Zook or Muschamp, he will be getting a lot of heat. Is it right? Probably not, but I would bet on it happening. That is why he NEEDS to hit a homerun here. I'd throw lots of money to Malzahn if that was really a possibility. That guy just gets it. I am just not sure why he'd leave Auburn. I do like Hugh Freeze too. Just an exciting time. As for your question Nappy, I personally don't want Mullen. I am not sure how to explain it other than I just don't think he is that great of a coach. He does really well when he has a great QB. Otherwise, his program is not that good. Heck I read somewhere before he got this qb playing well, he was on the hot seat in Starkville too.
People always want someone to blame when things don't work out. While Foley is partly to blame for the bad hire its not all on him. Besides he did also hire Urban Meyer. The new Head Coach whoever he hires I bet meets the following criteria. 1. Offensive background 2. Head Coach with previous success 3. Familiar with the SEC 4. Good recruiter 5. Not really old. As for your question Nappy. Mullen was here at Florida. I was never super impressed by him. He hasn't done anything great at Mississippi St. Until this year. Never really been sold on him as a top coach.
http://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/mississippi-state-football/hs-coach-rips-dan-mullen/ Mullen getting some negative press from a Texas HS coach... Interesting read. Always makes it tough how to balance getting someone to fill a hole, but then trying to get the best person possible.
I always hate when coaches do this to players. Sometimes it happens because of grades, but looks Miss St just used too many Scholarships.
Looks like Mike Gundy wants to be the next coach of the Florida Gators. http://florida.247sports.com/Bolt/Sources-Gundy-pursuing-UF-job-33176623
All I know is Its Great to be a Gator http://www.businessinsider.com/dominant-college-sports-programs-2014-11#1-university-of-florida-20
Gundy is interesting. He fits the bill as to what we expect Foley is looking for: Offensive minded, successful HC... The only thing, does he have any real SEC experience? I am not so sure. I am not sure how I feel about him. I like some of the other options thrown out there better, but I have said prior not sure how realistic those other "options" are. I have to go do some more research on Gundy...
The big reasons why I don't think Gundy will be the hire is he has No experience in the SEC. Thats huge enough but there was also some accusations about how Oklahoma State did some things from the NCAA. I would be pretty shocked if he is the hire to be honest.
I had just found the NCAA stuff. I think that is a big no no. Lack of SEC experience hurts, but I am not sure it should be a deal breaker. That being said, I do hope we have better candidates.
Some speculation... really just more rumors and some fun. http://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/florida-football/florida-coaching-search-update-speculation-more-speculation/ This is going to be interesting who we get. More so, I'd love to actually know who is REALLY being looked at. So much misinformation out there right now.
Looks like Chad Morris is going to be head coach at SMU. I didn't think he was a candidate for Florida job but saw his name mentioned a couple times.
I expected the Gators to lose but they really should have won against an unimpressive Noles team .The defense created so many opportunities to score but the offense could not take advantage of them. That has been the whole story since Muschamp was hired .No offense. I am predicting the Noles will lose in the first round of the playoffs.Winston folds and commits too many mistakes under pressure.
I agree with all that and I agree with Muschamp's quote below. Lol Muschamp on Tevin Westbrook: "We put you on scholarship at Florida, catch the ball."
According to a report Florida has offered it coaching job to Hugh Freeze and he is deciding between Florida and getting a raise at Ole Miss. Also Pat Forde reported that Foley met with Colorado State HC Jim McElwain Saturday night.
Then you move your family and home to Florida. Can't imagine a head coach not wanting to be on the top of his profession. Not possible at Ole Miss
Look at Kirk Ferentz. Its possible if you lived in the area most of your life and you're happy there. Interesting note on Hugh Freeze. He was actually Michael Oher's High School coach.
Be careful with the rumors that Hugh Freeze has been offered the job at Florida. There is a big chance that this is being leaked by Ole Miss right before they overpay him. They love to create an image where they are better than they actually are.
Come on Crunch... I really respect your posts and Football knowledge but that is just Crazy Talk. Dude lost all receivers but Green and lost OC James Coley to Miami which really slowed their offense down. As you know from having Muschamp that no offense slows team down..not quite that bad at FSU but it does not help. But, he folds? This year how many comebacks did he generate ? Down by double digits I don't know how many times but that is NOT a QB that folds in any shape or form...Also, what is this I hear that Muschamp is taking over the DC job at FSU?
It's pretty common for coaches to get raises this easy. So I wouldn't be shocked if its true. Winston has been pretty terrible all year. He's not playing nearly as good as he did last year. FSU has a talent advantage thats pretty big in almost every game they play so i don't buy the whole we lost this player and that player. I would think some drop offs after you lose a coach and some players but he's fallen off a cliff. After saying all that tho they keep winning. Its very impressive to see him play in the 4th.
Right on cue. A statement from the University of Florida today says that they haven't made a job offer to anyone, and Hugh Freeze agrees to a contract extension with Mississippi that will pay him around $4 million a season. Really, the only person Florida has talked to about the job is Jim McElwain from Colorado State, and it would not surprise me if he ends up getting the job.
My comments were product of the frustration that the Gators should have won that game except that the No offense offense which is Muschamps trademark let them down as it has in numerous occasions. Having said that he is a good college QB and its admirable that he plays his best when it comes to CrunchTime .That will translate well in the NFL. I was making the observation based on his performance against the Gators which is the first tough defense he has faced all year.Against the Tide he will face a tougher defense. In the pros he will face tougher defenses . IMO he has high bust potential but I could be wrong..Our gurus would have a better analysis.
They going to get a pre-New Years Bowl this year? Bowls usually set a side for Kentucky or Vandy when their bowl eligible Or are they going to play in like the Gator Bowl against some mid-level Little 14 team like Maryland or Iowa?
The coaching search has generated close to 100 candidates names rumored but the truth is no one knows. The latest coach du jour rumor is Chip Kelly
They will possibly face the Canes in some minor bowl. That would be fun to watch. My two favorite college teams against each other. You could call it the Frustration Bowl.
I agree as a Canes Fan that would be the perfect name for the bowl game. I think we would have a No Offense vs No Defense Bowl Game..a real Thriller huh ? Lol....as a Florida native I always root for all Florida teams unless they are playing each other and in that case I have to root for my favorite team
If he is flying out there then its close to a done deal.I hear that the 7 Million buyout clause is full of holes so it can be worked out. Not my favorite choice but its up there . He does meet Skeets criteria. 1. Offensive background .yes 2. Head Coach with previous success .yes but not in SEC 3. Familiar with the SEC . yes 4. Good recruiter. not sure 5. Not really old. yes.
