The impressive thing about the Buffalo game was that it was the first time this year that the Dolphins' offense functioned well against a team with a very good defensive line. That's a good sign, because it suggests they're overcoming their primary nemesis in the league and have a chance to be at least somewhat competitive in the playoffs should they make it. Prior to the Buffalo game it looked like having a very good defensive line was a surefire way of beating the Dolphins, or at least keeping the game close enough to make it go either way in the end.
Agreed. The other thing that was VERY nice about this game, that I'm not sure was mentioned or not, was the clock burn by the offense. Even those long drives in the first half that didn't end with TDs helped keep our defense off the field, and that paid benefits in the second half. So while it certainly wasn't fun to watch them not punch it in with like three drives to the RZ, those drives were still crucial. Silver lining IMO. I'd trade it for 3 TDs though
One thing we can say, the refs were pretty good to us on Thursday...the PI Ronin spoke of and the grounding call for a Safety were shaky at best...but we'll take 'em since we'll likely give up a few like that as the season goes on...
By the letter of the rule, yea, it was grounding, but that is not usually called...You see balls thrown into the seats all the time...
Agreed its not usually called - Grounding is a rule that i see a ton without getting called - although it does seem this year i've seen it called more often than recent years. I'm glad they seem to be clamping down a little on it. It was too easy to avoid a sack for along time it seemed to me. And, the Bills DID get away with another IG call - Orton was rolling to his right and threw it away to no one - out of the pocket - but the ball never made it past the LOS. I had to double check the rule since no one else seemed to mention it....
We had it called on us a few games ago when we were in RZ and Tanny threw it out back of EZ over Clay's head so we have received many bad calls against us and Orton's was a far worse attempt..he was about to get nailed for a safety by OV. Part of the game..have to deal with it.
Aaron Rodgers was called for intentional grounding Sunday on a pass that was closer to the 'intended' target than Orton's was.
I like this..point is he was well within his tackles which makes him still in the pocket. On the pass from jis own endzone..and I know the exact play you are talking about as I was holloring for the flag.
