I don't know much about him other than his career stats I looked up which aren't impressive. He had more action with the Chiefs than he did with the colts. His best year was 25 tackles, 1 forced fumble, no interceptions and only 2 passes defended. He is a work in progress. I wonder why he didn't get much action with the Colts.

After we cut him at the end of training camp, he ended up with the Colts and saw only special teams action up there for two games. He'll compete for the gunner position on special teams. He can also fill in at corner if needed. And we're of course very familiar with him.

He's familiar with the system and plays ST. For this time of year, its about the best we could do. If Finnegan is ok, then he shouldn't see the field on D much.

I had thought for some reason the pats had put Don Jones on their PS after a few games after they poached from us?? I guess not. I wish he would have been on our 53 instead of DT..I still hate that we lost him as I thought he was progressing pretty well. I hate the PS because teams seem to always poach ours but we never seem to poach anyone else'

Don Jones only had 4 ST tackles last year...he was average, even if one of those tackles was RIDICULOUSLY cool and caused a fumble.

And we poached Michael Thomas last year, to win the NE game, and before his season-ending injury, was a very solid contributor on ST and D.

I know it seems like we don't poach a lot of players, for the most part because that's true. However, Thomas was a great find for us. Now he's injured. We could use another gunner, and Don Jones is very athletic. If the light comes on for him at CB, he could be a good CB. If nothing else, it'd be nice to have another guy who knows our defense.

Its hard to say how Hickey will handle it going forward, but you guys are right, we seem to hardly ever poach other team's PS. You read about other teams doing it every week.

He didn't play for us last year. We signed him as a free agent and he looked good until he was injured. Glad to see he was available.

I remember hearing he was making plays early camp or OTAs. I guess we are all hoping we don't have to find out. Hope he kicks *** in special teams.

As a GM I would think it is preferable to promote someone from your own PS rather than poach someone from another teams. Not only does the player know your system but it also means you stashed the right players.

I really like Hickey..He has been huge for us so far..I also liked Jones as well because of special teams play and knows our defense. Also sitting out there is Chris Clemens who is a great tackler that knows our defense. Just suggestions from me. Again, I am extremely pleased that we hired Hickey and he has been awesome ! I cannot wait for 2015 draft, free agency, as well as who we pick up as UDFA.

I also am following CK and getting on the Rakeem Cato and Devon Johnson bandwagon after my review of them after watching several games from them. Johnson is a beast and Cato would be able to give Tanny some competition to keep him sharp as well as be able to come in and play very well in Lazor's system in case of an emergency. Thoughts from other fans? Also how about Gordon's game against Nebraska? WOW

Well....if you are excited about free agency 2015 then you better get excited about letting Odrick,Delmas and Clay walk, along with some serious cuts as well because right now the Dolphin payroll is projected to be slightly over the cap in 2015.

If Hickey is going to have any cap room to make a splash in free agency he is going to have to get pretty ruthless with his cutting knife.

The more likely scenario is that the Dolphins bring back some of their own guys and aren't very involved in free agency 2015.

Don't get me wrong, I am an extreme radical in matters like these and my desire would be to see a significant shakeup in personnel, but, this is the NFL; just saying, don't get your hopes up because it is far more likely that next year's free agency period just passes us by uneventfully.

Yes, I understand that and I should have let it be known in post by free agency I meant signing some of our own guys and after June 1st our cap will be better. I think right before and right after the draft we will have at least 35 Mil. to work with.

That is after letting some of our guys that have been hugely underperforming after getting paid with their huge contracts. Thoughts?

When you promote from your own PS, you don't have a minimum amount of time they must remain on the 53. But when you sign from another team's PS, that player must remain on your 53 for I think 3 weeks at least. So there is that difference. Far as I know, Jalil Brown was a street free agent.
