Bunch of clowns is what they are. Tell you what, Marlins taking this too nicely. I would have started plunking Brewers left and right, **** em, or taken the team and left the game in protest to avoid a melee.
Pile it on. Now Marlins getting another player ejected. ****ing joke. Marlins are the only team getting punished here and are the ones that received all the damage. ****ing disgrace of umpiring.
Those umpires should never be allowed to call another game again. Period. Unbelievable. How can you let a pitcher drill two Marlins batters (one in the face), rule both pitches strikes, and then eject Marlins players? This is a complete farce.
It's a long ways away from seeing what the prospects the Marlins gave up will do, and it's still early on Cosart, but it certainly looks like a good trade so far. Marisnick has struggled with Houston, Moran has been solid in AA; meanwhile Cosart has been one of the best (if not the best) pitchers dealt at the deadline and has been pretty lights out for the Marlins (knock on wood).
He has crappy peripherals like Koehler and Eovaldi had early in the year. He's a nice arm with some upside to have but he's been pitching over his head a bit, as a Marlin. He's probably going to be a pretty good #3/#4 starter and that's okay. We really could use one more front line arm though.
I still don't get why they gave up on Moran so quickly after taking him with the what 5th or 6th pick last year? Were the Marlins that down on him after half a season in the minors? Or that high up on Cosart? Have you heard any inside info?
http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/...ssing-record-breaking-300-million-deal-111314 This is fairly unexpected. I don't know what to think.
I think Stanton will be half our payroll for the next ten years if he accepts. If he declines that is flat out embarrassing.
I don't think anyone walks away from $300 million, so if that report is true, he's signed. You really can't pay a single player half your payroll though. They'd need to raise payroll into the ~$100 million range, which isn't asking a lot. A $100 million payroll these days still puts them in the bottom half of the league. This is bonkers.
Well I don't literally think he will be half. 3/10 is still a hell of a lot though. How will we pay Jose Fernandez when his time comes? (Assuming he gets healthy and is still worth it)
His time should be right now. A good will extension while he's injured could save the team a lot of money and provide him with financial security that he doesn't have yet. A friend of mine suggested 5/70, and I think he'd do it in a heartbeat. Look at the Rays, and Astros. They're the best at this.
Agreed. You simply cannot turn that down if this is true. All it would take is one bad season or a serious injury and you could essentially be losing at least $100 million. It would be great if Loria intends to finally kick that payroll up somewhere near the league average for the long haul. I can't see him spending that much money on one player only to surround him with a crappy team. That wouldn't make a whole lot of sense.
from what i read its a done deal... He should ask for a no trade clause though. It is Loria afterall. Dude gives giant contracts and trades them after a year. Stanton does not want to be canadian.
He is a grade A moron if he doesn't sign this.....12?!?!?!?!!? Good for the Marlins if it does happen.... ****Fink opens a window, jumps out****
I love Stanton, but I think this contract would be incredibly dumb for the Marlins to do on many levels. But hey good for Stanton.
Maybe. However this really could be a baseball town. Noone goes to games because we as a city hate the way our team is run. If they make moves that show they are srriously interested in keeping farm talent there could be revenue increases and payroll as well.
I mean he is getting 20+ M regardless, but other than the years how so?? Stanton warrants a 10 year contract, if Cano got one no?
Because the Marlins aren't the Yankees/Dodgers etc. Their payroll last year was roughly $45 million so they would have 1 player take up almost 50% of their payroll, that's not a good thing. Their average payroll for the last 5 years is around 60 million so even if they increase payroll Stanton is going to take up a huge chunk of that. The other thing is Stanton is only 25 but in his 5 years in the league averages 126.8 games played per season. Granted his rookie year he didn't start the year with the MLB club but he's been injured each year and had to miss some time (again this year the broken jaw obviously wasn't his fault but he does have an injury history). Now maybe that means nothing moving forward but giving him a 10 plus year deal would at least give me cause for concern.
I can see that but that argument isn't going to hold water come contract time....somebody somewhere is going to give him a blank check..... My concern would be how does he come out of that injury......is he gunshy?
But teams like the Yankees, Dodgers, Sox, Cubs, other big market teams CAN afford that contract, the Marlins can't based on their payroll history. I'm talking about the other nagging injuries not the broken jaw, which was a flukey injury.
The other part of that report is that the offer is so big since the Marlins see virtually no chance they can lock up Fernandez. I wonder if the Marlins will move away from their traditional model of valuing pitching above all else. Maybe go to more of the new Cubs model. All the high priced Aces got knocked out early in the post season. Maybe it's not as important.
With offense being way down 30 plus HR hitters like Stanton was extremely rare and valuable. As for Fernandez, his agent is Boras, I think the Marlins know there's almost a zero chance they can extend him before he hits the open market.
Extending Stanton is necessary if Loria wants some extra dollars when he sells to Arison... at least one can hope..
I think eventually they should be able to get a Fernandez deal done. He seems to love it in Miami and Loria will not want to let go of a home grown Cuban player. I'm sure the elbow injury is what is making the negotiations difficult. The Marlins probably want a slight discount, and Boras is probably operating as if there was no injury. The Marlins have more negotiating power on that one though because he's under control for a while.
Fernanadez should do a deal that buys out his controlled years and includes maybe 1 or 2 years of free agency (think Trout, Longria) solely because of that injury.....even Boras is smart he will do that.... if he doesn't and the guy God forbid blows out his arm again would be terrible...
Let's hear what levels you think this is dumb on and why. I honestly think this is fair market value for him.
It's not because they won't have money left. It's because Boras. Reports are that they're trying to extend Yelich and Hech (gag) as well.
I mean the contract will cover his prime and early decline years. And he's currently on a HOF pace. I'm all for it.
We previously let Cabrera walk via a horrific trade. Never again. Find a way to keep this cat around.
An opt out after 5 or 6 is totally fair. If things don't go well he can go to the dodgers or whatever. We still get his best seasons
