Not sure if we hit on this point, but two possible wins if Tannehill slides down instead of trying a near impossible throw to a guy that's running out of bounds. Today, and against Green Bay, we were trying to kill the clock as much as possible. We forced Detroit to use two time outs by running and then we called a pass play on third down. Same as the Green Bay game. Tannehill ends up scrambling because of pressure and then tries an impossible throw (incomplete) stopping the clock. Same as the Green Bay game. If he slides today giving up a sack, 40 seconds come off the clock, a time out comes off the board and we likely win. Same as the Green Bay game. Am I wrong? Talk to the kid about how important it is to keep that clock running on third down late in the game. Hero throws are not an option for this team.
Our playcalling in that situation is vanilla at best. No roll outs, just run up the gut, cuz its all of a sudden supposed to work. I don't understand it.
I wouldn't normally have been against running it, but down to our 3rd and 4th string running backs, against one of the best D's in the league, when they're expecting it? I would have liked to try a few safe passes there. Move the ball and the clock.
Like already said, Detroit had a timeout they could have easily used. The truth is that Detroit beat us today because they made one more play. We dropped the touchdown while they caught theirs. It happens.
Which call do you disagree with, the 1st and 10run for five yards, the 2nd and 5 run for no gain or the pass on 3rd?
I think Williams' run on 2nd down was the killer on that drive. IIRC, James is the one that got beat on that play, although Williams didn't help out by dancing around behind the LOS. If he stays on his first read, he probably gets a few yards on that down, making it 3rd and 2, instead of the longer 3rd down that we were faced with.
I disagree. It was the right call. The result was even positive. Second and Five is a good situation. Heck if Damian Williams goes with first read instead of trying to dance for a better one, it is probably Third and Two or Three, which is a good situation where you can run and pass in. I have no problem with the call.
The result can be positive even if it were the wrong call. Running on first down isn't the worst call. But you have to throw the ball At least 2 times in that set of downs. Whether it's on first, second or third. It has to happen. They managed it wrong. Awful.
I didn't like the third down pass call. In that situation give me something to Clay or if the corners play off give me the best WR screen we have in the playbook.
Agreed. I like the call to try and run out the clock with an RB who had been playing well. The execution on 2nd down, not so much.
You want to try to run the clock out...with Damien Williams and Donald Thomas...against the best rush defense in the NFL....with our best offensive lineman out.. Brilliant.. Im putting the game in Tannehill's hands. You are dumb not to. It cost us the game at the end.
Agree to disagree. No you are not dumb to run the ball twice. And it didn't cost us the end of the game.
