http://footballgameplan.com/footbal...k-10-preview-miami-dolphins-vs-detroit-lions/ Good evening Dolphins fans! Good luck this week! Em
So we're supposed to blitz the Nickel and drop Wake into coverage? Is that the best use of our personnel?
Yes, of course it is. When playing against a quarterback like Matt Stafford who isn't particularly mobile and is prone to making awful throws under pressure, we should certainly take one of the three best pass rushing specialists in the NFL and ask him to cover a scat back.
While it may seem out of hand, you are seeing this move more and more in the NFL. It can be quite effective in some instances. Obviously, not in others, as when it was used poorly against KC near the end zone. I feel like Wake should have chipped the back at the LOS to slow his progress. He did not, and there was not that much field to work with which I felt worked in Wake's favor. Sometimes you lose those battles. Wake lost that one. I saw one instance where Wake was literally blocked by three players against SD. I forget the actual outcome of the play, but that was either a miscue by their O, or he is just that beastly......or maybe a little bit of both!
I'm not a fan of using Cameron Wake in the zone blitz as a staple of the gameplan. I'll just leave it at that.
As a lions fan, zone blitzing the DTs, when fairley just got hurt seems silly. With reduced depth, and an athlete in Tanehill, I expect a lot of rollouts, quick screens, and motion to jet sweeps/ fake sweeps to tire out the dline. Adding coverage duties to that would only make it worse. Shallow zone coverage with outside pressure or use levy as a spy, to me, seems like the best plan.
