Ryan just went out there made a "this is MY team" statement game. The rest of us can only nod, drool and if applicable, eat crow.
This next stretch is the real test though. TOUGH defenses. Lions on the road, Bills, Broncos on the road. Not easy, hope the offense continues to play well then we can breathe easy.
i'll tell you, when he dropped baack to pass in the 2nd and looked deep (covered), looked deep again (still covered) and then threw underneath to clay for 20 yds i just about jizzed my pants. that and the rodgers like spin move and throw across the field to wallace who never got the pi call he should have were the stuff of greatness
While I was never in favor of benching him, I was very honest at the time. He deserved most of the criticism he was getting, and he deserves a helluva lot of praise of late.
Yeah, you know that I haven't really been a fan of his this whole time now...he's always had all the tools, yet he's never looked fully comfortable out there. Even when he had that great game 3 weeks ago, he was still not fully feeling the pressure and making several minor mistakes that stopped the chains from moving at certain times. He was a complete package today though and it was awesome to see that level of confidence and poise. Honestly, if he could play like that every week, there's no reason why we won't be the Super Bowl favorites in a few months. With our legendary D and THAT KIND of offensive output on a weekly basis....wow. You do realize that we left almost 20 points on the field today, right? And that's not even counting the final drive. This easily could have been a 60-0 blowout if Philbin and company wanted to be mean.
Absolutely...but this was one game with complete confidence and awesome execution. So it's not time to break out the dancing girls quite yet, although it's damn tempting.
Yeah, I agree. In Chicago, he was about 80% of the way there...and about 75% in the Oakland and Packers game. Today was something else though; he was a top 5 veteran QB that was laughing at the defense and having fun. If it wasn't 100%, then it was like 98.7%....so that's why I'm trying to contain myself. Some progress is a fluke, but that's not what happened at all today. He evolved.
RT has flashed talent since the beginning and his improvement and development has been pretty darn consistent. IMO it was obvious to anybody who focused on Tannehill's play and not just the overall results. The over all results weren't as consistent b/c it was reflective of lots of player's struggles with a new system, not just RT's. I thought those posts calling for Moore to start were ridiculous. RT came in as a very raw player. People forget that and treat him as if he'd started four years in college as a QB as wasn't playing in the first new system he'd seen since HS. I said from the beginning that we wouldn't see him play at close to his potential on any kind of a consistent basis until year 4 or 5. IMO he's ahead of schedule.
I wasn't in favor of drafting Tannehill and I have questioned all along if he is the right man for the job. Today he certainly played an excellent game and he deserves all the praise he is receiving. That being stated. I said before the season began that Tannehill needs to lead this team to the playoffs before I would be sold on him as the long term answer at the QB position for the Dolphins. Right now it appears he is certainly headed in the right direction as an NFL QB, but there are still 8 games left in the season and I want to see how the entire season plays out before I jump completely onto the Tannehill bandwagon. I certainly want him to be the answer for the Dolphins long term, because if he is, that will give Hickey the ability to select players at other areas of need and not have to draft a QB in the first round for several more years. As far as those who earlier in the day thought that the Dolphins and Broncos were the class of the AFC. Perhaps the Patriots showed today that they are still the best in the AFC and if the Dolphins want to make the playoffs this year, it will be as a wildcard team and not as AFC East Champs.
It's funny, but I haven't been a Tannehill fan because I thought the exact same thing- he's not really going to have it all together until year 4 or 5. And if a guy sits the bench for 3 years and then start, I'm 100% good with that....but we went a different route. So I could never see drafting in the 1st round for a five year beta experiment for anyone, because that's just not how this league works anymore. Players have to produce immediately and I think it's crazy to expect your fan base to live with 3 losing seasons because "he might be the guy" in year 4. Again though, I've always saw Tannehill's potential...so that was never a factor for me. We've just been in a 12 year rebuilding cycle since Marino left and nobody wanted to wait 3 years on anyone. Because I think we all know that if Tannehill didn't take such huge strides over the past month, there's a good chance Philbin was heading out the door and the next coach was drafting a QB. So it would have been Henne/Sparano all over again and we deserve better than that.
very true. I'm tired of seeing Matt Moore. Nice guy, but we could probably get a better backup vet than Moore.
I'd prefer to inhouse the process with a young guy. Sometimes when you do that you can both keep pressure on your starter's salary a little and if the backup is any good trade the backup away for picks.
Tannehill looked great. I think his accuracy lately has been outstanding, better than anyone outside of the elite IMO. What we needed to see from his most is what we saw, him escaping the rush to extend plays. I hope that this is the light clicking on for him and feeling it. I'm sure there will be days against better rushes where it doesn't work as well. But I hope he continues to do that, and what I want to see is him doing it in tough pressure situations as well, late in games when were down. That to me is the only thing that is holding him back from being on par with the 2nd tier of QBs. That is what Romo, Ben, Rivers, etc. usually do. Gj Tanne
I think fans tend to be idiots who react on emotion and that good owners are the ones who can make decisions w/o being overly influenced by the fanbase. I always said that RT could become Aaron Rodgers in 4 or 5 years. If you believe you have a potential Rodgers on board then it would be ridiculous to start over after year 3 b/c he didn't fit some fan's timeline.
Prior to the season, Moore was rated as one of the top backup QB's in the NFL. So exactly who was available in free agency that you think would have been better than Moore? Today the Jets and Cowboys both started their backup QB's in their games and both teams lost. Stating the Dolphins could get a better backup is easy. Naming a better backup QB who was available to the Dolphins in free agency after the 2013 season isn't so easy, because there wasn't one. The Dolphins attempted to develop young QB's for the backup role in recent years and none of them were better than Moore. That is why Moore is still the backup and those young QB's are no longer with the team. I'm sure the Dolphins would love to have a younger, cheaper, and better backup QB than Moore, but they don't grow on trees. Until they find one, Moore will be backing up Tannehill, even if your tired of seeing him on the team.
I actually think Moore is the perfect backup for Ryan Tannehill. Veteran at this point who is always ready to play, and he gives you a secure feeling when he's in there. Makes little to no mistakes and can get the ball down the field. He knows the offense, lets just keep him as Tannehills backup.
So very true and I am also very Happy that Marino has been working with him. I think Marino has been pumping him up and helping him improve his pocket awareness and also to believe in himself.jUst drop back or roll out and fling it!! Awesome job on your huge improvements Tanny and keep it up!! We are all rooting for you.
When you exercise proper patience with player development, you can post a Hulk Hogan gif like this on Tannehill's behalf when it comes time for crow eating. We're still waiting to hear from the remainder of you who were so convinced Tannehill definitively wasn't the answer that you felt it justified talking down to those who wanted to give him more time. Can't leave this post without a "Whatchya gonna do, brother, when the sixteen inch pythons of Tannemania run wild on you!"
I won't lie I was having some serious doubts at points earlier this season...but hes just been out there spitting fire lately. Thrilled with the progress. I definitely believe those harping on the new system bell were spot on. Thanks for keeping perspective alive around here, ye smarter people haha.
Na. Not me. He has been good the past few weeks. I need 2 more games of above average play to jump on the wagon.
....made all the more annoying when those fans don't understand the circumstances or extenuating circumstances involved- like a change in scheme, weak or inconsistent surrounding cast, inadequate coaching, being poorly used, or a need for mechanical adjustments..... let alone all 5. Even more annoying is when those fans lift their noses and downplay all that stuff as being nothing but "excuse making", as if every QB entering the NFL has his own predetermined destiny that he'll arrive at regardless of what the heck is going on around him. I'm inclined to say the biggest problem was Zac Taylor. He did little to prepare Tannehill for life as an NFL QB, which was to be expected considering his utter lack of resume. Lazor seems to have already done ten times more in half a season than Taylor did in 2 years. Ryan's mechanics and footwork are noticeably better and infinitely more consistent. I mentioned before the draft that, on throws when his mechanics are on, he throws a great ball and puts it where he wants it. It was right there on film. Unfortunately there was no consistency to it, which is why it's always burned my chaps that Tannehill was given Sherman's son-in-law as his QB coach instead of a worthy guy with actual experience in developing the position.
Nah, you don't need anything, and none of us need to wait for your approval. You had your chance to at least enter neutral ground after spending so much time pissing on both Tannehill and those who weren't ready to pull the plug on him, but you passed on it. I see right through you. Your speech about "needing 2 more games" before altering your belief is nothing but a stall tactic to buy more time because you're holding out on the hope Tannehill flounders and proves you right.
I mean...I could have posted the same thing about Henne. Funny how some people's minds work. It was an awesome game and it's looking like I'm wrong on the guy. I couldn't be happier to be incorrect.
I dunno, I'd think no WRs in Year 1 and no oline in Year 2 all while having Sherman be your OC would be problems #1, #2, & #3 while Zac Taylor is somewhere around #57. In fact, I think Zac is a scapegoat at this point. The offense belongs to Lazor, we love Lazor.......Lazor kept Zac.
Huge difference from last season to this season.. I kept noticing how light his feet were in this game, even compared to the beginning of the season... guy looked like Aaron Rodgers out there.
Okay, but you said yourself that we got Tannehill very early in his growth period at QB. So how do you take that tidbit and get Rodgers in 5 years? That's a huge leap from his extremely average college stats....especially since only a handful of QB's EVER reach Rodger's level within the first 5 years. For every idiot that overreacts to a bad game, there's another idiot who has undying blind faith in a guy with nothing to back it up.
I just hope that the posters that wanted a QB change can readjust their Dolphin hats and try to enjoy the ride.
Cause I don't base my analysis on stats? People tend to look at overall results and blame the QB. That's why they get impatient and put up artificial timelines. I based it on skills. The part that is more up in the air b/c I don't have direct access is personality. I had to listen to reports, watch him speak and watch him progress. There was nothing blind about it. It was the same analysis I used with Henne and why I always said he would never be a franchise QB.
I simply said I need to see a bit more. Our QB lays down against a good front 4. He has pocket awareness issues. he takes dumb sacks. Lets see how he does against Buffalo round 2. I express my opinion which is why we are here and I have some butt head trying to fist fight me over it behind a laptop screen. SILLY
