Have to side with Todd on the YAC/R stat. It's a rate stat which means it's a processed statistic (no matter how rudimentary) and gives a better comparison than raw YAC totals.

Yeah I mean, not all teams attempt the same number of passes on the season, nor complete the same number for that matter, and Miami is currently attempting less passes than last year now that we're running more.

Now that I think of it, if we're attempting fewer passes, then we should probably be even more concerned with making the most of those attempts, which means finding a #2 receiver who is more effective in the YAC department, can catch in tight coverage, can catch contested/jump balls downfield, and can contribute in the redzone. You know a receiver has no YAC ability when you can remember the last time he had some real YAC- the New Orleans game way back in 2009 where he was caught from behind.

I wish Cleveland was 1-6 or something. I'd have a difficult decision on whether or not to take a chance on a phone call about Josh Gordon.

    True. Both have emotion.

    But know what, that's okay.

I love that we get emotional about this stuff! Means we still care!

No they don't. My original post was not emotional at all. Why would Dpate think that? Because I did not agree with him that merely looking at YAC avg gives a complete and accurate picture of ability to make plays as a runner after making a catch? Go back and read Todd's post. He agreed with me and stated it very well in his typically eloquent War and Peace length style of post. So I did not agree with Dpate, I must just be emotional and not thinking clearly. GTFOH.

Can't understand all the hate for Hartline. Is he really this bad? I think not.

    My error.

Regardless, it's not the receivers. It's the backs if anything.

We're not running Chip Kelly's offense. Nor have the results in the passing game been anything close to beyond reproach. Running basic routes that most of the league uses uncontroversially is not part of whatever mesozoic era offensive ideals.

You're saying something is true contrary to evidence otherwise based on anecdotal evidence. Then you just cited NaboCane.

Maybe I'm being overly dismissive but help me out here?

Aston Villa fan. Really?..I mean..really? :knucks:Sidenote. Im not suprised with the Hartline bashing. You need to read some posts on the gameday thread. Anything goes towards any player that makes one bad play. Embarrassing. I wont call them "supporters" because this thread alone backs it up. My opinion is that Hartline always seems to go down after the catch. I clocked that a long time ago. He's put up a couple of decent seasons regardless of him apparently not going for the extra yds. I'm not keen on bashing players that are suiting up every Sunday and playing. Hartline p**s taking is crossing the line imo. We can get better next season but to start a thread demeaning and making him out to be a figure of fun is lame. Never realised we had become the next generation clones of Eagles or Jets fans. Sort ya head out ppl. Hartline is a Dolphin.

He's not that bad. He's just not very good either. He's a dime a dozen depth receiver who's being paid like a Pro Bowler.

But that can be said for most teams, as virtually all of them get a boost in YAC from their backs. Lamar Miller averages 6.4 YAC per reception, good for 37th among backs with at least 10 catches, so I don't think Miami's backs are providing any sort of team YAC advantage over the rest of the league.

Landry averages 7.3. [For comparison, Cordarrelle Patterson, one of the best in the NFL with the ball in his hands, avererages 5.7 YAC]
Gibson averages 7.3. [For comparison, Percy Harvin, arguably the most explosive player in the NFL, averages 5.2 YAC]
Sims averages 8.7. [#3 among TEs w/ at least 7 catches. For comparison, Jordan Reed, one of the NFL's most athletic TEs, averages 3.8 YAC]
Clay averages 5.1 despite not being at full health and despite dropping a few passes that definitely presented YAC opportunities.
I'd say Lazor's philosophy and offensive design play a significant part in this heightened YAC.

On the other hand, Hartline is constantly afforded single coverage yet his YAC avg is only 3.5. Even in a YAC friendly offense that allows guys like Gibson, Landry, and Sims to out-YAC Percy Harvin & Cordarrelle Patterson, Hartline still has difficulty. Compared to Landry, Hartline is leaving 3.8 yards on the field after each catch, which carries even more weight considering Landry is catching 76% of his targets compared to Hartline's 57%.

It's not Chip Kelly's offense, no, but it does share much of the same philosophy and a lot of the same principles. I'm not saying the passing game is beyond reproach, but IMO it certainly looks better than it has it the past, and the potential seems there.

It is if rudimentary stuff is essentially all you run, to the point the offense becomes boringly predictable.

Jeez. i thought you and me settled this two years ago with Shou. There are people that still think Hartline is good with YAC?
