No idea why you would ever kick a FG here. I'd rather either score and make it a 3 possession game, or fail and make them drive 99 yards.
When the showed the replay Taylor prevented him from coming back for the ball. It is correct that the odds were against his getting back to it but as he tried to pull up, Taylor had his hands all over his shoulder. When you are 40 yards down field and you grab a WR's shoulder pads - that's going to get a call 98% of the time - whether we think it's PI or not - that much contact will get called virtually every time. It also hurt that he didn't look back til it was too late. Had Taylor angled to one side and bumped him with his back or kept his hands down, that might have helped.
If you are counting on them getting the ball back anyway, the score they need to tie/win is irrelevant. You have to believe one of two things. A) Your offense will score B) Your defense will either hold, or force them to use too much time going 99 yards. Now what you have was a great kick return, a chance for them to score quick, and if they get it back...probably over a minute to score a TD to win.
Hmm. I never said it would cost us the game, its just not the call Id make or even the higher % call.
