Very interested to see the info come out about this one. Resisting and trespassing? Hmmm....

Supposedly he got into a brouhaha at a club, was asked to leave by the bouncers, and refused. Not sure if he got into a fight with someone or they just beat the stuffing out of him when he refused to go.

Usually that means he was kicked out of someplace and refused to leave (trespassing) and had to be forcibly removed by police (resisting arrest)

All in all a low level beef, hopefully he learns his lesson

I wouldn't expect any league punishment. This is a first time offense and Goodell hadn't been in the habit of punishing first time offenders unless the crime was particularly heinous.

The most dangerous aspect of this will be team punishment, because that's discretionary and subject to public's current sensitivity toward NFL players being arrested for this or that.

Didn't get charged with assaulting a police officer, that I can tell. That will keep this from being a question of jail time.

Andy Slater @AndySlater · 24m 24 minutes ago Police tell me Derrick Shelby reportedly caused a disturbance at club. Security & officers asked him to leave. He wouldn't, was arrested

    Adam Beasley @AdamHBeasley
Apparently Derrick Shelby's arrest happened outside Off The Hookah. Defense attorney Danny Rosenberg said Shelby 'maintains his innocence.'

"Police say he reportedly caused"...such an arguable situation unfortunately.

Really sounds like some sh*thead started something with him...or vice-versa...club employees and cops broke it up...and Shelby thought he was being wrongly treated in some fashion, argued, and got arrested.

Pretty minor, if that's the long'n'short of it. Lesson to be learned.

Both of #Dolphins Derrick Shelby's charges (trespassing, resisting arrest) are misdemeanor charges.

Remember when Randy Starks was arrested for supposedly trying to run over a police officer with his big truck? LOL.

He had like 9 people inside his truck and one of them was an off duty female police officer from Chicago, who blasted the police for the absurd charges.

How do you end up looking like that but only get charged with "resisting WITHOUT violence". Somebody beat the **** out of him and his charges don't match up with just cause at this point.

Not a good look on the police...particularly with Shelby saying the police are responsible for the bruises.

I've known FTL cops that would joke about beating peoples *** at clubs on the weekend, then charge them with bs after. I think I'd hold off on blaming Shelby for now.

Not enough information.. Resisting without violence would lead you to believe it was the bouncers or whomever this all revolves around.. Police dont tolerate much and it seems they knock on resisting violently at the drop of a hat.

Lesson learned though even if you are not at fault if you are told to leave somewhere... Leave. You can always sue later. Once the police recieve a call of tresspassing all it can do is go down hill from there.

I'm not saying the cops beat him up. I'm saying someone beat him up and if that's the case he shouldn't be the only one arrested unless:

    1. The police took the other side's word for it immediately even seeing Shelby look like that.

    2. The police did the beating.

    3. The police were presented with slam dunk level evidence that Shelby should look like that.

    3. Shelby beat himself. (What a Dolphin thing to do)

But basketball and MLB players are also coddled. Are NFL players more coddled through school years?

It might deserve it's own thread but I read some statistics, where the NFL has the most per capita arrests, followed by NBA, then MLB and NHL and it isn't even close. 2,466 per 100k for NFL, 2,157 per for NBA, and then 553 for MLB and 175 for NHL.

At first, I was thinking, it has to be related to testosterone levels needed because nobody is going to argue NFL players are not the most aggressive in professional sports. But then I would, without any evidence just guessing, say hockey players would be next in the testosterone level but their arrest records look Mother Teresa next to to NBA and NFL players.

Are NFL and NBA players more coddled than the rest? It's certainly possible. There are no multi year minor leagues in the NBA and NFL.

That really isn't all that surprising. Look at the demographics and types of backgrounds the players for each sport come from...

A lot of players that play football and basketball come from really rough neighborhoods and childhoods...

Well part of that comes from the fact NFL players have far shorter seasons. More free time for trouble.

#Dolphins Derrick Shelby police report: He allegedly was “touching females without their permission.” Was asked to leave club...

We got this now to deal with, not good news, what a dumbass, you know the problems the league is having with women and you go and do this.

Exactly, if its true, he should be in more trouble with the police. Who cares about the league troubles, IMO, groping women (without their consent, of course) has to effing stop. And when dbags with some fame like him or Incognito, do this, the punishment needs to be the maximum to serve as a warning to everyone else that this crap will not be tolerated.
