Robert Mays over at Grantland looks at the Tannehill question and the wider issues that may or may not be behind the 1-2 start. Not too long and decently written - worth a look. For the TLDR version: Tannehill not great but shouldn't be benched. Pros - numbers skewed by drops. Still a brand new offense, needs time. Con - Tannehill needs to not lock in to his WR's and go through his reads better. Linebackers - Missing starters hurt this team twice. Reduce their strength against the run as well as the pass. (Coyle's experiment with Wake etc. obviously didn't work) Defensive Team issues with Coyle and Philbin's none commitment to Tannehill might demonstrate that the leadership problems from last year haven't gone away, and more in-house problems might be set to spark up.
I think those cons will improve in time in the new offense. Honestly, I think the fact that they want to bench him right now is insane. I think if Joe benches him he should be fired on the spot. He's going to make a desperation move to try to save his own job rather than making the decision that's best for the team in the long run.
It's been explained in numerous articles that Philbins response to the reporter was "policy" and he never intended on benching Tannehill. He doesn't discuss injuries or lineups.
I guess. I suppose it's better to doggedly adhere to a weird, made up personal policy than it is to make a bad move in desperation.
I think the end point about Philbin isn't that he was going to bench him, but that his comments have created upset - not handling the 'family' well.
I don't know, I heard Tannehill's response and he didn't seem to take it as policy. He and Philbin had a talk according to the interview I heard on the radio, doesn't sound like nothing. Philbin was trying to make a point with Tannehill and like every other thing he does its ****ing amateur open mike night for a head coach here in Miami.
Do the sportsmedia really not give a **** about biology or are they that desperate for cutesy titles for their shallow articles? Every year, it seems we get a "fish"-related article/rant. I tend to disregard anything past the word "fish" when folks try to talk about the Dolphins.
Except he's violated that policy before, and could have stuck to the policy and still not created a controversy.
