No, but it adds to it, duh.
    Do you need help with math here? 1 distraction + 0 distraction = 1 distraction. 1 distraction + 1 distraction = 2 distractions.
While the Dolphins are busy playing woefully and are in need of turning things around, they need less distractions, not fuel added to the fire. Logic, who needs it.

Really..if its just an interim HC..and just needs to have a clue about TOs / Challenges..etc..why not choose the person most likely to motivate the players. Why can NBA teams hire players with no head coaching experience to be head coaches.

Why not make someone like Jason Taylor interim HC?

Is there something about football he doesnt know? Its unconventional..why not?

Maybe youd loose the Coordinators after that..I dunno. NBA does it..why not?

Before we all go jumping to conclusions wouldn't it be nice to know exactly what was asked of Tannehill and entire answer.

What evidence is there that the players on the whole have experienced this as a distraction, rather than perhaps an inspiration?

Philbin has had several chances to show us how good a coach he is and has failed epically with the 2 divisional games last year and then the exact same beating in Buffalo this season. Ryan gets a lot more from an overall inferior team, how they finished with the same record after the beating we gave them in NY says it all !!!

Ryan was asked if its a distraction and he said yes..and he wished it was handled differently.

If its someone the players respect I think it could have a positive impact for sure, you could see what this team can do when motivated against the pats compare that to the Chiefs and it was night and day and had very little to do with TH17 performance.

Now, what player(s) do you think are going to make a comment that sounds something like, "thank God the coaches have their finger on the pulse of the ineptitude we currently have at quarterback and are considering a change -- I was about to give up on the season the way things have been going."

That's not to say anyone feels that way, because I don't know. What I do know (or at least suspect) is that the players are aware that there is currently ineptitude at the quarterback position, to which their fortunes on the season are largely tied, and they're likely to become hopeless if they believe there isn't a change being at least considered.

In other words, Joe Philbin stands to lose the team if he continues to start a quarterback who gives the team very little chance of winning. For him to remark publicly that a change is being considered may be music to the other players' ears. Who knows?

In other words, for many of the players the issue could be more an inspiration than a distraction. We have no idea.

I've already made that decision, considering that no player is likely to say how he may really feel about the situation, because to do so may throw a teammate under the bus.

He stands to lose the team ( and his job ) if he doesn't improve on continually making mistakes as the head coach , and that should be his MAIN focus. Period.

They could have easily said, "This is not a distraction, we are focused on the Raiders."

Still doesn't throw a teammate under the bus.

And doesn't throw the coach under the bus, which they have done.

Have you heard the exchange or are you going solely by the tweets? When you hear the actual Philbin exchange it isn't half as bad as the beat writers were making it out to be.

They could just as well be saying the media attention is the distraction, which says nothing about the coach.

Anything else that Tannehill's doing that you don't like? I dunno...ties his shoes the opposite way you recommend? Puts his left sock on first? Doesn't munch it before he punches it?

In this case, Philbin didn't use coach-speak, and was honest...and you're fine with that...

Tannehill didn't use player-speak, and was honest...not fine with that...

As a Colts fan, I know a few things about great QB's and i'll give my opinion on Tannehill. He has the potential to be a top 12 QB but I think Philbin is holding him back. I've watched him put up great games against my Colts that has a good secondary. He's accurate from 15 yards in and seam routes, the system should be built around his strengths. Luck has his moments early in some games when he's struggling but at any given moment, he has the ability to hit Hilton on a 50+ yard play and bring us back from big deficits. With a bad o- line the last two years and when the pocket collapses, Luck has the innate ability to feel the pressure and gain yards from running. I'm surprised TH doesn't run more because he's athletic. He's not Luck, Rodgers, Wilson or even Ryan as far as pocket awareness but he could be every bit as good as Romo, Dalton, or Cutler. Those guys are considered top 12 QB's and put up great stats that can get you 8-10 wins a year, just need a great supporting cast for it to work.

Ok at least ESPN didn't edit Tannehill's quotes as much:

    http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/1...mi-dolphins-coach-joe-philbin-non-endorsement

To me the whole quote sounds more like an honest evaluation of the situation from Ryan and he seems just as much if not more annoyed at the media than Philbin. Notice his constant reference to the "outside".

Part of coaching, maybe the most important part? Is managing personalities, AND JOE PHILBIN IS FLATLY INADEQUATE AT THAT SKILL.

Because a reporter was trolling for a story. In the Monday morning interview, Philbin said he would do whatever it takes to improve the team. He then went on to explain how they would prepare for Oakland and started off by saying they would evaluate who would be the best 46 players, just like they do every week. At this point in the interview, Tannehill hadn't even been mentioned but some reporter then asked if he would consider starting Moore over Ryan and Philbin told him he already answered his question.

Because tannehill is way down the list of worries. An offensive line that blocks like swiss cheese, receivers dropping balls left and right, a defensive scheme that has our best pass rushers covering running backs....if philbin is worried about tannehill most he should be fired for ignorance

I know right. He was similarly delusional when emphatically suggesting Hartline's overachieving 1,083 yard season was actually held back by Tannehill. lol

Remember the gem of a thread attempting to bamboozle us into believing Hartline & Bess were among the best receiving duos in the league?... and that not only would it be a waste to spend a 2nd rounder on a receiver [even though Hart & Bess were our only 2 at the time] but that the odds would be against that 2nd rounder beating out Bess or Hartline?

.... or the other gem professing Hartline compares favorably to Calvin Johnson, AJ Green, Larry Fitz, DeSean Jackson, Andre Johnson, Vincent Jackson, and Torrey Smith as a deep threat? That was a fun one.
... or the one claiming Davone Bess is the "League's Biggest Impact Player". :jt0323:

Those were the days amIright? I shou am. The reason for mentioning all this is- if there's one person here with a reason, rational or not, to biasedly scapegoat Tannehill for everything wrong under the sun and to passionately pray for his demise, it's the guy who thinks Tannehill prevented Hartline from becoming Jordy Nelson 2.0 and Bess from the next Roddy White.

Of course (slightly older) Colts fans know great QBs. They had Manning, and they were in the AFC East through many years of great QB play in that division.

Guess you just debunked your own claim that Tannehill is a team distraction. :wink2: Nice job painting yourself into a corner.

Quite arrogant and hypocritical of you to un-supportingly state Tannehill is a team distraction but then turn around and refute everyone else's media-supported claim that Philbin is one.
