Alright alright...another painful, excruciating, inexcusable loss...and a total team loss at that, just like last week. There are a lot of good teams 1-2 right now, it ain't the end of the season, pull up your big boy fan pants and let's get past this one and look to next week. Oakland had a chance to beat the Pats today...at Foxborough. Are the Pats really that bad? Are the Raiders really decent? What do we need to do in order to bring home the win from London next weekend? I don't want to hear about who we need to fire...it's not reasonably expected to happen that any of these coaches will be gone by next week, so please let's stick to the match-ups and competitive areas. I say we get it together (more on hope than reason) and pull out an easy win over the Raiders to go 2-2 and stay within a game of the division. Discuss.
I have a bad feeling that Derek Carr is going to pick us apart. Then I'm going to have to hear all these Raider fans talk all year long. Please Dolphins, save me the embarrassment of losing to the Raiders, Please!
I'm so disgusted by the last two weeks that I'm almost hoping for Oakland to win so that we can see some changes here.
There is hope we can hold them under 9. But, the main thing is to get rid of Lazor, otherwise we are facked this season.
man you went from great passing concepts to get rid of him pretty fast....12 dropped passes this season
We do have a great system and concepts. We do not have the OC, or at least we should not have one right now. Lazor should be fired. I'm looking for the news of the firing.
Mistakes are what's killing us. We limit mistakes and we can win. However at the rate we're going I wouldn't be surprised is we finish 4-12 on the year. This is about to get ugly.
Changes already need to happen but nothing will happen until after the season is over, even if the Dolphins lose next week.
Last week i was ready to move on instantly and talk about the upcoming game. Between the refs and the unreal homefield we got put against, it was what it was. But not after what i saw today. I dont even know if i can honestly and confidently tell myself we will beat Oakland. How could you possibly call any game a W at this point? Nothing like a game that makes even the staunchest of defenders question their priorities.
And you want Philbin to replace him I guess? You do realize he had no real control over anything in GB right? He just had the OC title, McCarthy was the genius there, and still is really. Wake up, Philbin is a big part of the reason were in this mess. Two different OC's now, two miserable offenses. Maybe the problem lies within the "system" the HC is using. As for the game, Personally, there's no way Philbin has this team prepared to cross the ocean to play a game with all the festivities that surround it. I don't see us winning it either. It'll be another should win game, that we likely drop
Prior to the season, I tried to tell everyone on this forum that as the OC at Virginia, his offense got worse each year he was there. He had never been an OC at the NFL level and he only had one year of coaching with Kelly and that was as the QB coach and not as someone who called the plays for the Eagles. I think so many people hated Sherman as the Dolphins OC, they just accepted that Lazor was going to come in and be some kind of brilliant offensive mind. He is what he is. A guy who got the job because I'm sure no top tier OC had any interest in coming to the Dolphins and working with Philbin.
I didnt think there was any possible way id feel like this at game 3 this season. Especially after game 1 happened the way it did, when i was there. But this team found a way.
Take away the drops, and we're likely out to a lead...for the first time this season. We getting anybody back next week that should make a difference? Misi? Pouncey? I know it's depressing right now, but there are lights at the FAR end of the tunnel. What has really disappointed me these past few weeks has been the play-calling (2nd and 1, call 2 pass plays, really stands out...but there were plenty more) and ability for receivers (besides Wallace) to consistently get separation. If they can't get open under 2 seconds, RT has no chance, 'cuz the interior OL will be blown up by then. Is getting Pouncey back enough to help that? Are teams just scheming their D better than our O scheme/adjustments can account for? I really don't understand why Miller didn't get more touches...he was balling...FINALLY. Is his improved performance, along with Pouncey coming back, what we need to get over the hump in the passing game (set up by the run)? Really trying to look toward the positives instead of getting hung up on the last two games...injuries are causing too many problems that the coaches can't seem to find an answer for. Do we just need some of the starters back for things to fix themselves? Edit: I recall many people saying if we were 2-2 before the bye, with the injuries and suspensions, that's OK. Still have a chance to do that...though it's uphill.
Miami needs to go to a very run heavy offense. At this point, Miami should know what we all do right now, Ryan Tannehill isn't an elite or franchise QB. You can't run the offense through him. Miami should run an offense similar to Buffalo's or even Washington's in 2012. Hell how about Lazor running it like last year. If Ryan Tannehill is throwing the ball 30+ times a game, that's VERY bad. We need to see 30-40 rushes a game...with or without Moreno.
You can take off the rose colored glasses anytime now. We have seen the future of the Dolphins for the 2014 season and it isn't bright enough to need those glasses.
I don't give up dude...ever. It's not rose-colored...else I wouldn't point out all the problems I did. I'm just taking the optimistic approach, as usual. We'll have some guys coming back, and hopefully some of the playing-injured (Clay, others) will be closer to full health by next week's game. There's positives there...they're just hard to filter out.
Probably a loss. Will MJD be back? No, I change my mind. They'll win because they'll win 5-7 meaningless games to take us away from a top draft pick. I'm not really sure if there are any good QB's this year anyway, I haven't been paying attention. They messed up by missing out on Luck anyway.
I love your enthusiasm, 1968. However, it's starting to look to me like Bill Lazor was a bad hire at OC. And that's the backbreaker. We needed an OC who could help our QB develop, not make him even worse.
Sometimes you can kind of somewhat make sense, and other times you come off as blind or just bat s*** crazy. Its bewildering, really. But yeah our OC cant pass block ...or throw accurate passes.... or catch passes right in the numbers without dropping them. ( most in the league btw). No clue what you are getting at.
Ya it is...and it looked so promising after the Pats game. Likely the Pats were just THAT bad that day, 'cuz it really looked like we made adjustments that confused the hell outta them. Maybe just that good old South Florida sun getting the best of the Patsies. I still refuse to give up on the season though...if we get smoked in London, I'll blow a gasket.
I appreciate you optimistic attitude. I also remember you telling me before the season that this was a playoff team and that my 8-8 prediction for the season was too pessimistic. I guess when it comes to this Dolphin organization, the optimism has been drained out of me over the past decade and realism has set in. I always hope that the optimists on this forum are proved right and I end up being wrong when I predict another mediocre season. I realize it is still early in the season and anything is possible, but the reality that this Dolphin team just isn't very good seems to be winning out over any optimism I might have derived from the win over the Patriots. I guess we will have to wait and see how the rest of the season plays out.
Sorry to break it to you. It's nice to be optimistic and all. And to a degree, I can even understand. We're not untalented. There are some very good players on this team. The reality is, the foundation is rotten. It starts from the top down. Philbin doesn't have the game planning or game managing ability. Lazor looks worse than Sherman. Coyle is hit or miss week to week. We have units w/serious problems. Our interior oline can't block. Our receivers can't catch. Our LB core is full of young backups. Our secondary is meh... Our QB is a huge question mark. There's too many problems and we don't have a coaching staff equipped to fix the issues. Hell, we don't have a coaching staff equipped to take advantage of our strengths lol. Cam Wake in coverage? lol. We're not one of those good 1-2 teams. We beat a lousy NE team that people is on the same level of those super bowl teams. Otherwise, we've been smacked around by the Bills and KC Chiefs. Dan LeBatard said it best.... "You know how hard it is to be losing by 12 at home to 0-2 team without its best player when you have 2-0 turnover advantage?"
All those flaming Lazor: 1) Tannehill has a run/pass option every play at the line. He contributes to the run/pass ratio more than Lazor. 2) The pass plays have all had players open (for the most part) we aren't finding them and when we are, they drop passes. I have no issue with the way Lazor has called games.
Third game for me. Second time v Raiders. I've not seen us loose. We will win. Just as long as our grown men getting paid a small fortune just to catch a plastic ball, remember how to do this. Should be simple enough. Yes?
1) This does not absolve Lazor at all. If Tannehill is making the wrong decisions all he has to do is eliminate that second option and tell him: "Look Ryan, you're getting it wrong, we'll work on it in practice later, but right now I just want you to run the exact play I tell you". If Tannehill is out there choosing to pass on 2nd & 1's and 3rd & 1's while averaging over 5 ypc and Lazor is there just twidling his thumbs then that does not make it any better. It pains me to say this, but if Tony Sparano, Dan Henning, and Mike Nolan were out there coaching this team and calling the plays, we would have not lost this game. We'd have run the ball down their throats the whole game, (with Tannehill contributing with some of those runs) and likely held them to under 20 points. That's how bad it's been... this coaching staff cannot see the obvious, they consistently outsmart themselves and try to fit square pegs in round holes.
If Oakland plays it smart and just give the ball to McFadden/MJD about 35 times, they have a shot to beat us. Our linebackers are baddddddddddd.
Regardless of a win or loss I'm looking more to see the type of effort and attitude the players exhibit. This game and where it's located should tell us all we need to know about the coach. In a division where the top is showing vulnerability this needs to be a statement win or an eye opener at the very least that says things are changing now and look out because we're coming. We will see exactly what the message is to the players from the coach in this one.
Mariota is the hot 1st overall pick right now, than there is winston, i think for now thats it for 1st round QB´s, with the usual risers coming up later this season, Mariota is still only 19 years old he will just turn 20 somewhere in october, so i think you have to have patience with him but we are not bad enough to get the 1st overall
