...because we all know its only a matter of time before he gets poached by another team that'll make him HC. See Scott Linehan(my favorite OC we've had in the past two decades). He's looking like a excellent hire so far, but I hope we have a coach that's being trained now under his leadership for when that day comes. We know most likely he won't be HC here, and its rare that a HC(Philbin) gets fired just so his OC gets promoted. I hope we continue to have strides this year with him as our OC and I'm excited so far, but I'm dreading the day he leaves Miami for greener pastures...

I feel like we should enjoy the ride and not worry. If and when he leaves we will either replace him well or not...but we as fans can't control it. I'll try not to think of it too much.

It's going to be tough because I can see it happen a mile away. I knew when we signed him it was only a matter of time, being from that new Chip Kelley coaching tree plus his prior experience, teams are going to want to duplicate that offense and you know this offseason if we continue to have success, guess who's going to be at the top of the list of hot HC candidates..?

I agree with this. But... 33 points with the drops, Wallace being unable to keep his feet in bounds, Hartline unable to stay on his feet, and some bad throws by the QB? Two fumbles? An interception? And you still put up 33 points on a damn good defense? He did something right today.

Well bad teams try to replace their coaches before the playoffs and Superbowl are over so if we can keep winning he might stick around for awhile ;)

He had marginal success in college, 1 good year under a phenom HC in Philly, and one good game so dar in a Miami. There are a ton of "great" OC's with more experience that washed out as HC's. He could easily be a few years away from that jump.

It's about experience for the most part, he's had plenty in the NFL and college. He's mostly been a QB coach so there's not much data on him being a play caller. His own offensive philosophy plus stuff he learned from Kelley made him valuable, after this season if our offense keeps it up he's going to be THE hottest commodity on the market. Teams will wait for him to be available if we last into the playoffs. Quote me on this.

Let's not get the cart too far ahead of the horse.

Our offense had a great game. No doubt. Before we anoint him the next Bill Walsh let's see how they perform against a Bills team that held us to 21 points last season.

I'm not saying we shouldn't enjoy what we saw today. I am saying it's a little bit premature to assume he is going to be gone immediately based on 1 game with this team.

Putting 33 points against the Pats(bad D and all) while your offense makes alot of mistakes is impressive by any measure. Yes of course we'll have to see more but so far his stock is shooting upwards.

I'm not sure if I'm more encouraged by Lazor's arrival, than ecstatic over Sherman's departure.

How can you be so sure? If we have any success(or failure) he's not going to be promoted to HC here. If we have success, Philbin gets credit. If we fail, theyll all be fired. It just won't happen. Other teams will want him and short of making him the highest paid OC in the league, likely making him being paid more than Philbin, he's likely to last no more than 2 seasons here. Heck, we make the playoffs, he's going to hired as the next HC of some lucky team.

It is the dream of every coach in the NFL to become a head coach. If the Dolphins have success on offense under Lazor, he will most likely get a chance to become a head coach.

When you hire talented coordinators, that is the chance you take. I would much rather have an OC who might leave in a few years because of the success he had with the offense than one who is fired because he isn't very good at his job.

Hopefully Lazor will stick around long enough to help get this team in the late round of the playoffs or perhaps a SB. If the team has that type of success with him as the OC, I certainly won't have any hard feelings toward him if he decides to following his dream of being an NFL head coach.

Unless they plan on firing Philbin and giving the job to Lazor, it is very likely Lazor will be hired to be an NFL HC if the Dolphins have a lot of success on offense.

I don't see Lazor turning down a chance to be a head coach if the opportunity arises and instead remaining with the Dolphins as the OC.

I feel the same way. I just hope we have someone we're grooming in his place, because I don't trust Philbin completely to think "well it's his team and he's offensively minded, we'll be ok no matter who he hires because of the system". It's not the same as NE replacing Charlie Weis/Josh McDaniels or Romeo Crennel/Dean Peas because Bellichick is there. There's a real danger there that we might replace Lazor with another Sherman type of coach. Im just saying, this is the Dolphins, we never prepare for the expected/unexpected.

I thought he called a great game, but I didn't understand why he went away from pounding them with Moreno in the 4th quarter. I think he was outsmarting himself a little bit. Definitely did a nice job this week though. They should have scored even more points than they did had it not been for some bad mistakes.

Im going to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume Moreno was gassed or had a minor concussion. Cuz they did show one play where he was kicked hard in the helmet and he went out for a several plays after.

I think Moreno is still working himself into top playing shape and he was probably getting a little worn down in the fourth quarter after giving so much effort earlier in the game.

He came into camp overweight and then had to recover from minor surgery on his knee. The fact he was able to be as effective as he was considering he probably still isn't 100% in regards to being in shape is actually rather amazing. I can't wait to see him once he gets into tip top shape.

The worst-case scenario is two or three years down the line, more likely than not, and even then that's wildly premature.

I hope you're right but past evidence shows that coordinators coming off good seasons, especially Lazor being that hes coming from that Kelly offense and if he turns around our offense and Tanny plays well there's a good chance he'll be promoted to HC somewhere.

I think it'd be a little more likely if Philly fell off the table this year...but they haven't.

Kelly is still calling the plays. Lazor never did. But he has knowledge of that offense and this is a trendy league. Hes already valuable because of that. Teams are going to want someone with knowledge of that cutting edge offense.

Coaches are becoming a bit more selective these days. It used to be when you got your shot you went for it. Now you see more guys waiting a season or two for a situation they really like.

I'm hoping we keep Lazor happy enough financially that he waits for the right opportunity for himself and doesn't bolt.

Lazor will be a Dolphin this season, the next, and maybe one after that depending on the job openings. If he's really good that's about all you can expect from a coordinator.

The man so nice they named him twice! How you doing JJ?

Anyway, I hope so but a successful season here and coming from Kellys offense is going to make him a hot candidate as I said many times. Unfortunately there's not much we can do about that. Just hope he takes his time before leaving us. I'm just worried because I've seen this before. I liked Scott Linehan when he was here. Chambers had a good year under his tutelage. He made Rosenfelds look good. When he left to coach the Lions, our offense suffered. We haven't had a good OC since. Lazor is the best I've seen. I just have a sick feeling it's only going to last a year. If he gets hired as a HC, he could take some coaches with him. That's the danger of him leaving.

This is way way too early. We'll have to see a passing game that is consistently near the top of the league before Lazor starts getting HC interest.
