How is it cheating? It's smart. Anybody could've signed those guys. We could sign a New England guy or two.
Great, now he's gonna know when we kneel on a kick and how much we obviously love our own 20 yard line.
Could easily see Thigpen destroying our LBers in space, although they pretty much everyone does that. We'll see if he gets off the PS by next time we play them.
We he was part of the offense and he should know all the calls.Previously BB signed Jones so he has all our defensive and offensive calls pretty much covered by now.
The nfl really needs to change this. They need to make a rule something to the effect of if you claim a player from a team you are playing with in the next two weeks that you have to keep that player on your active roster and dress him for the next eight weeks. And if you do this after the eighth week of the season it rolls over to the next season. i don't blame the patriots for doing it.. It is just lame.
That's silly. You can't prevent an out of work player from taking a job, which is essentially what that rule would be doing. The PA wouldn't, and shouldn't stand for it. It's simply another layer of strategy on the game. I see nothing wrong with it, and if it has value, I don't know why we don't do it
In no way is this cheating, and its sad that people look at this as a negative towards the Patriots. I think anyone who knows what BB likes from offensive weapons Thigpen was going to be on his radar. If anything its amazing how BB is always one step ahead in preparation for an opponent. This isn't the first time or the last it will happen but maybe our coach should take some pointers and use every advantage that is legal he can.
it benefits the players in that they are insured employment for eight weeks. Both jones and thigpen will be unemployed in two weeks. And it wouldn't be preventing anyone from getting a job. They might have to wait a week or two ... But that is it.
The Pats and a few of the more "elite" teams can get away with this because they're not as dependent on rookies and free agents to immediately perform. In Miami, you're talking about cutting a solid prospect (like Fede or Williams) just to get a little info which may or may not help...we can't afford those types of gambles. New England can though, and there's nothing wrong with that.
It's not cheating(this time) but it's definitely unethical. But should anyone be surprised coming from the nfl's #1 d-bag? You know, not to thread jack but every time someone gets suspended for whatever I can't help but think about how this cheater didn't even get 1 game!! The biggest scandal and not 1 game? Payton lies for his DC, falls on the sword & gets an entire season. Man I hope we beat the snot outta them sunday.
People are always saying it never makes a difference. Then the Patriots keep doing it. Hell the Jets do it too, but the results aren't as impressive because they've been stuck in the Sancho Smith Era for five damn years. But they're defense always shows up.
Every year BB does this and every year he wins the division. Every year we don't do this. And we lose the division. Every year posters say what you say.
Hmmm.. If they werent worried about our offense..they wouldnt have gotten Thiggy. I take it as a compliment.
Should we really keep thinking about Don Jones as a defensive guy and Marcus Thigpen as an offensive guy considering they almost never actually played on defense or offense and were in fact core SPECIAL TEAMS players for multiple training camps and preseasons under Darren Rizzi? Especially in light of these comments from Bill Belichick on preparation for Week 1 as opposed to normal weeks:
I don't care if this is cheating or not...the league doesn't have a policy against it, so it must not be...I just can't stand Belicheat ever since Spygate. He should've been suspended one year AT LEAST for that crap, but naaa...Krapt wouldn't like that.
Bill B is by far the best coach the NFL has seen in the past 15-20 years. Wish we would have hired him back then.
BB can glean terminology, pre-snap reads and keys, post snap reads, def. concepts, alignment concepts, route concepts, etc. He signed a vested player to the practice squad, and signed a 2nd yr guy to the 53 man roster. They can cut both in the near future while minimizing the cost of the severance payout.
