I don't see why he can't do what Dion Jordan was going to do in this scheme and that is rush the passer in passing situations.

There is no other backup player on the roster with that type of pass rush talent, and that's the name of the game for these four games, make that speed package what it was intended to do..

McCain has some unique ability to get to the Qb without engaging with the lineman, very good slap rip move, very good acceleration, and just deeks, grooves and slithers his way to the Qb, sometimes with the great subtleness, if the opponent tries to run in those passing situations with draws or delayed stuff, he's got some awareness and speed to pursue and tackle..

Besides the starters, or even including them, Was there a more impressive player in our preseason lb for lb?

Why I'm a little excited, is because Dion is not effective at this point and this kid can make plays while dion and the coaches figure out what their gonna do with him when he gets back..

Hickey should be commended for having signed this kid alongside Fede, and the rest of that free agent class.

    McCain..Fede..Gator..A Johnson...that's a pretty impressive group..

He gives us a chance even with the suspension.

I think thats exactly his role for the first 4 games. And it might even be hard for Jordan to dethrone him from that role when he returns....

    Could you imagine that..

McCain seems like he's slitherman out there..should be fun to see if he can play at the very highest level in his very first game, I mean I'm sure Shelby will see most of Dions snaps but if I'm a coach I throw the kids talent out there, I think CK said it best in the game thread that made me laugh, it was like a, " yup, ok, ive seen enough, let that mother run around and play some football" moment..

I actually like McCain more in that role than I do Jordan. I know he was signed as an undrafted free agent and Jordan was the third pick in the 2013 draft, but right now McCain looks like the better player.

I would love to see Jordan get a chance to play an outside LB spot, but that doesn't seem to be in the cards with Coyle as the defensive coordinator. It is just a complete waste to try and make Jordan a DE, IMO.

If I had a a gun to my head and I was forced to choose Jordan or McCain, , it would be Chris McCain.

Not to say Jordan won't turn out to be a good player, but at this point with 4 preseason games in the books, McCain is looking to be better player with a higher ceiling.

    were in agreement on Jordan.

Slitherman was playing like a mad man against those scrubs, but it wasn't even a contest for him, along with his two sacks I saw five other legit wins against his opponent.

I don't see him in Jordan's role. I think CK mentioned it somewhere else, that they are actually playing McCain in the role Jordan should be playing, and that makes a lot of sense. Playing McCain as a hand in the dirt situational pass rusher as a DE would be a mistake IMO. I think he's a guy with big upside though and they should find a way to use him.

Well, I'm confused, if they bring him in to rush the passer then that's what they were doing with Jordan, I want to see him rush the passer, where's the difference?

At this point, I could replace him. My Grandmother may have a shot at replacing him.

Yeah, sadly, not sure it would take a lot to replace what we got from him.

The only two teams to offer McCain a contract after the draft, were the Rams and us.

If Chip Kelly & the Eagles are still interested in trading for Dion Jordan, we should seriously consider it.

I think Dion Jordan is a great athlete, but I think he's on the wrong team. His ideal position is as a 3-4 OLB.

He should be rushing the passer, but from the LB position. I don't think he's best suited to have his hand in the dirt like they had Jordan doing last year.

Right. They both should be used the way McCain has been most of the preseason IMO.

I have been saying the same thing for several months. I just don't see Jordan ever being a quality DE in the NFL. If the coaching staff doesn't want to move him to outside LB in a 3-4 defense, they should cut their losses and see what they can get for Jordan in a trade.

Dion Jordan needs to prove he needs replacing. I'm not as down on him as others are, I think he has done good things when on the field, but he hasn't proven we are even losing too much.

I do think McCain needs playing time.

Sam Madison says that when he was working with the team in practice he said that he noticed that 47 was very knowledgable about the game and was working his tail off.

Fede and McCain have certainly been welcome surprises.

TBH I think a 4 game suspension was a fair price to pay for Jordan adding 15 lbs of muscle mass in 5 months. It doesn't look like he has lost any of his quicks. This could be a sick group down the stretch.

We have no idea how much muscle he put on.

He checked in at 275 for camp Taz..that's about 30.

He looked clumsy and unbalanced in space to me, big time.
