I agree. Obviously not finishing those drives was disappointing, but the reality is that Miami's offense last year was the number 1 redzone scoring offense (just ahead of Dallas). They were very efficient. They just didn't get to the redzone often enough. With how poor our run game was last season and how predictable our offense was, I think it speaks to how accurate RT is and that we finally have some players like Clay and Gibson who can finish plays. Against Dallas we moved up and down the field but three of those drives were stopped by a fumble due to a well-placed hit and two uncharacteristic plays (drop by Hartline and a miscommunication between RT and Hartline). I could see the miss to Wallace being seen as more of the same. That's completely justifiable. But the other three plays are clearly an anomaly rather than the norm.
I agree it was nice to see the offense executing some nice long drives. It was encouraging to see play after play pick up positive yards. But going back to last year, it seemed so many times we would march up and down the field, only to come away without any points or a field goal. That part of saturday's game was worrisome to me, as it continued that trend. Hopefully they get it sorted. Either way, the run game was exciting to see come alive. Overall the offense looks much improved from last year so far.
I would say he revitalized his career last year. Guy ran for over 1,000 yards, caught for over 500 yards and had 13 TD's . All career highs. I'll be thrilled if he puts up similar numbers here.
This was a very vanilla, "try this in this situation" kinda game. They'd never call a real game like that, and we've only seen a smidgen of Lazor's offense. Still pre-season...not too concerned.
DJ summed it up perfectly. I just got a chance to watch the first half. I like the offense. It puts players with the ball in their hands and angles on the defender.
He ran great and he's smart. He also showed a lot of power. I was critical of the signing - because his stats at Denver were not all that great - but he really showed he's far superior to Miller. In particular, at reading blocks and field vision. Miller is just inept at that at this point. I also think having Moreno in there - if he is successful - will give confidence to the other backs. Right now, I'd like to see the RB position this way: 1. Moreno 2. Miller 3. Williams 4. Darkwa Cut, Thomas, Thigpen and Gillislee. I also think Williams has potential to move up to #2.
