Greenwood played about 8 years in the league, if I recall correctly. He was a decent 3rd rounder. Wade Smith was still in the league, starting, through last season. Miami gave up on him too soon. Langford was a fine 3rd round pick. Miami didn't try to keep him in free agency because it's a loaded position on the team. I think Will Davis is gonna turn out to be a very good player, so also worth a 3rd. For that matter, Crowder started and was a decent player for several seasons. Probably turned out better than the typical 3rd rounder.

We were led to believe that it was Philbin who wanted to get rid of him........threw too many gum wrappers on the field.

As far as I know, that was an unfounded rumor. More like speculation, or an assumption.

True it was going to happen but, N.E. always seems to pick up our leftovers and get information before we play them.
    Fact or fiction?

Glad they made the cut now, tbh...

That means Brackett and Lynch should make it. Brackett is the surprise guy in all this. Coaches feel he is a good route runner with good hands. Apparently they don't like Kyle Miller so he won't likely stick.

To me he's just Chase Coffman and Martin Rucker. I think he'd need a Peyton Manning level QB to get anything done in the NFL.

Hopefully Harold stops dicking around at White Castle and tears it up these last two games. He's one of my biggest hopefuls this season.

I was surprised Egnew wasn't cut last year, so him being cut today is certainly no big surprise. If he hasn't been a relatively high draft pick by Ireland, I don't think he would have even made it through his first training camp with the Dolphins in 2012.

I say this without attempting to sound overly pious and disrespectful CK, but working in the field of special education I find this display a little distasteful. Just my honest feelings about it.

Would you say this speaks more to Philbin's decision or Lazor's? I was thinking they'd keep him AND Thomas...not so sure Thomas sticks around now, since, to me at least, Lazor's looking other directions.

Egnew...1st season he could catch but could'nt block, worked on it the next season and his blocking improved but all of a sudden he needed work on his catching and routes. Says it all.

I don't think individuals on this forum have overlooked the lousy job Parcells did rebuilding this team. Beyond the mediocre talent Parcells was part of bringing to this team. He also was the person who was 100% responsible for also hiring Sparano and Ireland.

So I have no problem placing most of the blame for the past five years on Parcells. He not only wasn't effective in providing this team with quality talent on the field. He also hired two individuals who were not qualified to handle the two most important positions, head coach and GM.

If Parcells had hired quality individuals for these position, instead of two yes men, who only got their job because Parcells knew he could control them. Perhaps the Dolphins wouldn't be in their sixth year of rebuilding since Parcells was hired in the first place.

I think the reason Thomas and Egnew were on the team last year is because Ireland had final say on roster moves and I'm sure he would have vetoed the coaches if they had wanted to cut either of these players.
Ireland knew how bad he would look if two of his high draft picks failed to make the team last year.

Philbin and Hickey no longer have any reason to keep Ireland's picks. If these draft picks can't cut the mustard, they no longer have Ireland around to protect them.

To me it doesn't matter who made the decision, I'm just happy to see that someone on the staff finally saw what many of have seen since Egnew was drafted. He just isn't good enough to be a player in the NFL at this time and he didn't deserve a spot on this roster.

If Moreno appears healthy against Dallas, don't be surprised if Thomas isn't the next Ireland pick to be shown the door. He's NEVER been able to stay healthy and outside of a few games in his career with the Dolphins, he has been a below average back since he was drafted.

He used Parcells evaluation method that said TEs aren't premium enough positions to take before the 4th. Actually "he used" isn't accurate. I used to have more contacts back then and I was told that Ireland wanted Graham, well actually that everybody including Parcells liked Graham, but that Parcells repeated his don't take TEs early mantra and that nobody could argue with the boss. I'm sure there will be people who will say, "but Ireland was the GM!?" Reality is that nobody would or could over-rule Parcells. Now as I have said since that draft, I never liked the Egnew pick so I won't defend it beyond the fact that it proved that Ireland either did not agree with Parcells opinion that it was too early to take a TE or that Ireland adapted after seeing Parcells fail then.

  22. Im just glad to see them make a decision and go all in on it. No point in keeping him in camp and taking up reps if he is not in the plans. It also gives him time to maybe catch a spot on another roster. Im pleasantly surprised they made a move that makes sense

Regarding the Marshall trade, it netted us Egnew, Dion Sims and Will Davis. I think that's who we received from the draft picks after all the trades went down. Maybe it won't be so bad if Will Davis is the real deal and Sims develops well.

I never understood why some fans here kept defending him and kept hanging on to that hope for so long. It became reduced to:"Ooh, he's studying MMA". " He actually made a decent block". Really? I'm actually very surprised he lasted as long as he did. Sims showed more than him in his first season. Clay? "Forget about it!!" Way better. I don't get it. This guy was supposed to be a tall receiving type of TE. He showed absolutely nothing in that department. Just from a fan's perspective, I'm very glad they finally cut ties with him. I also truly feel that he has a couple of screws loose. I hope he gets help and does all of a sudden have some miraculous rebirth on another team . That would be great for him, but I just wouldn't want to bank on that hope. He had his shot. Smart move!!

This comes on the eve of the most important preseason game of the year, and I suspect serves as a shot across the bow toward anyone who might've felt his position on the team was somewhat secure and therefore would be giving anything less than 110% tomorrow night.

Jimmy Graham was obviously an interesting prospect. But I can totally understand why Ireland/Parcels/Whothe****ever wanted to wait until the fourth round to draft him. Despite the tremendous size and speed combination, he was as raw as raw could be. Given the offense Miami ran, it's kind of hard to see how they would of used him. Going to NO was the best thing that happened to Jimmy Graham. Playing for a coach with the vision of a Sean Payton was a big part of his success. I know a lot of people here liked him (especially because he played for The U), but the "woulda, coulda, shoulda" comments about Graham are mostly hindsight from a lot people.

What's strange in my mind, is given how interested Miami was in Graham, how come they ignored Joesph Fauria? I don't think he's more/as talented than Graham, but it was watching history repeating itself. Fauria doesn't possess the same speed or athleticism of Jimmy Graham, but he's certainly very athletic and had a similarish college career. Namely, they were both athletic monsters who dominated in the red zone. As a rookie with limited playing time, he still managed 7 TD's on 18 catches. Of course, reports out of Detroit about Fauria have been glowing. Not just as a receiver, but as a blocker too. PFF agrees, so far.

The commentators in the ne/car game were talking about cuts, and besides saying that vets have a better chance to make another team if they're cut earlier, they also mentioned that if you're cut after the fourth preseason game instead of the third that you have to pass a physical. So if Egnew or Jalil or the other guy has any lingering nicks, it's quite the kindness being cut now.
