hmm, am I the only one that finds this peculiar, I mean I thought we signed someone for that position after we fired Oneil?, which would mean he only had less than a year on the job no?

This guy grove is from the steelers for the past 15 years, his staff was staff of the year in 2008..

Lets hope this guy is progressive and gets it..

Did we not have a head trainer during the time of o'neills firing and this guys hiring??

I have the same opinion on Dion Jordan as I do with every draft pick, they deserve at LEAST 3 seasons before anything is said.

And while I'm on that topic, what exactly does "In the meantime, opinions are like you. Everybody has one." mean? Everyone has one of me? If that's the case, that's FAR too much of a good thing.

Yup, I'm with you. Every player, and even coach, gets 3 seasons before I make a statement on what kind of player/coach he is. It's gotten ridiculous how fans and the media alike want to draw conclusions after a single season. I'm not just talking about here, I see this EVERYWHERE in the sports world.

Fans label players a bust because they didn't contribute much their rookie year. It's asinine. It's also probably my biggest pet peeve in sports.

If not, then the resulting lack of direct oversight and accountability, might explain the otherwise inexplicably irresponsible approach to Dion's bush league metamorphosis, and coinciding with what I believe are the only PED suspensions we've incurred since Sammy Morris in 2006.

That help any? O'Neill was fired in February, Grove was brought in at the beginning of April.

Edit: Maybe Troy Maurer filled in while they were looking to hire someone, he's been the Assistant Trainer for the team for 22 years. There was only a little over a month in between the firing and hiring.

I hear you. Three years makes a lot of sense. But the question remains...how long do you run with the DE plan if he continues to disappoint? That's the issue at hand, imo.

I'm with DJ: abort. He doesn't look at all like the guy we drafted 3rd overall. This sounds weird, but the 'essence' of his game is kind of gone now with the added weight.

Was a move to bulkier DE always the staff's plan for him?
Did they draft him for that purpose?
Is this something Dion really wants?
Was it his size or his technique or his bad shoulder holding him back at the poa last season?

The essence of his game was using his athleticism when he was unblocked. Watch the youtube clip of his college highlights and count the plays he made after shedding a decent block. My count was zero.

When he learns to beat a good block or fight through a double team then the essence of his game will change. At the moment he is closer to Vernon Gholston than Lawrence Taylor

Clearly he's a 3-4 OLB who's been miscast. Square peg in a round hole.

Jordan has performed pretty well the last two games, and I'm not sure what all the angst is about.

He's playing a bit tighter technique than you'd tend to expect and is entirely natural from is college play, but he's doing reasonably well, so why mess with it? It's not like he isn't getting coverage snaps.

Ur kidding right?Number 3 pick in 2013 draft had 1 tackle last night against scrubs in 36 snaps. If he was a 5th round pick or later he would be cut with the depth we have at line.
He wasn't special in college and so far he nothing special in the pros.

He's not moving well Pate, and is on the ground a lot, and running his head into a wall the majority of time..that's not overthinking things those are obvious things..and when your movement is being affected negatively than I don't believe there's any stepping stone from there

Relatively speaking, against the competition, yes, he wasn't a tough block for the scrubs.. No double teams

I watched the Dallas game several times to specifically watch DJ. I don't know what people are seeing when they say he's played well. He looked terrible. He looked slow and weak. He was getting f-----g stoned by 2nd and 3rd stringers, one on one. I've mentioned many times that there's a chance he suddenly develops. He could be one of those players that takes time, but as of now, for a player taken 3rd overall, or any round for that matter, he looks pretty bad. He doesn't seem to have enough of that aggressive, nasty streak to play the position. JMO.

I Think This Is The Hope The Staff Had/Has When You Draft Jordan

Time will tell, but we are certainly behind where you'd have hoped. Then again, the staff has to put him in a position to succeed too.

The things that do concern me about DJ

    1) Is it a mistake to have him put on weight and play him at DE instead of maintaining his athleticism and just working on increasing his strength while moving him around between rush LB and DE in nickel package.

    2) He missed time last training camp due to injury which put him behind. You'd hope that would be made up this year, but now he has a suspension. His third year will be his first year to have a normal pre-season and season. That's definitely not ideal and could hurt his development.

    3) Is there a mental factor to this suspension? I'd like to know more details and whether his decisions reflect a mediocre level of dedication to and focus on football. Generally the more focused, dedicated players achieve more of their potential (see Wake).

    Omgoodness, 30 lb weight gain...no wonder...brutal.

Nothing Dion has shown in all his reps this preseason disproves anything I've said in this thread..only cements it..jmo.

To even cancel out his disappointing year & a half with us he would have to do a complete 180, meaning balling out all-pro production on the field as soon as he comes back. If he comes back. Not decent, not good in spurts. Minus this, yes pump, he will be a bust.

I think it's safe to say after this latest suspension that yes, he is indeed a bust. We are a joke once again.

When it came to Dion, there was always the issues of his childhood and what he went thru ( almost tragic death, and depression) that none of us could project without having real inside analysis.

That being said, he didn't look right in preseason, he looked depressed to me and I said so..maybe there's was nothing that could of been done to change his outlook on life, I hope he's not to depressed to understand how grateful he should be.

I supported the move to go up and get him..

I'd like to know how this staff had an impact on his life and his play, obviously I've been vehemently against how they have handled the player from a skillset, weight, and position standpoint..I don't know if it had anything to do with his downfall but I wouldn't doubt it, he was a freestyle type player and they took his freedom to play the game the way I know he could play it.

    The question is:

Is he such a bust that we should be hoping he gets suspended again so we at least don't have to pay him?

I don't...it's not my money and I never feel sad for big business when they lose a little. I'd much rather he get his head straight and be a success. Another suspension would really decrease the chances of that happening...not that they're great now. I love come-back stories...looking for another one here.

He was also damaged goods with that shoulder injury. Missed alot of crucial tome in training camp last year. It showed this year. He's never going to do anything in a Dolphins uniform. Wish we had Lane Johnson or Luke Joekel.

I'll be surprised if he even plays at all this year. He obviously was dealing with this drug issue during the preseason and it probably only got worse when he was suspended and not around the team at all. This year will obviously be more about him trying to deal with his drug issues than it will be about his production on the football field.

I wish him the best in his recovery and I hope he can learn to deal with his issues without having to resort to drugs in the future.

I guess DJ meant lean muscle added is good weight. Body fat added would be bad weight. Yes, juicing would bring about lean muscle gain, if one worked out enough along with it.

Huh...no..juicing is not good weight, it's illegal..

The 275 he had on his body in preseason was bad weight meaning it wasn't muscle, it was bad weight gain..

Probably partying and eating like a pig because the dumass staff told him they wanted him to bulk up, and Any legit professional would know that it's not easy for a Dion Jordan type body to gain 30 lbs unless he was juicin, or just eating like a fu@&in pig with heavy empty caloric intake..

Like I said all preseason, He moved like it was bad weight..the story is matching up.

I am willing to give Jordan the benefit pending his return. Some of what appeared to be lethargic play in the preseason could be explained I supposed. I want to see how this front office handles getting him back on the field. I want to see how he is supported as an individual.

Well how they have handled this player has to be in question at this point..that lethargic play you saw is a direct result of mishandling a players strengths and potential..and totally giving baaaaad advice..

Maybe I should put a helmet on for this but isn't there another way to look at things like this? Guy clearly has problems. We don't have to take a dump on him. He's still a Dolphin. Can't we try to support instead of spit? He didn't pick getting drafted by the Phins. We didn't pick him. We never do. How about we try to support those who put on the uniform?

I really hope the best for the guy. He's got great natural gifts. I hope he's able to make the most of them, and especially as a Dolphin.
