Before or after Week 6 that Tannehill's body just gives out from the beating he's inevitably going to take. This is why we can't have nice things.

Brenner isn't in a boot or anything. Plus, he's out there in shorts. So, it looks like it isn't disastrous or long-term.

Keeping Nanee was obviously a mistake, but if I remember correctly the team was pretty desperate for established receiving help at the time.

To say that Philbin is unfair to undrafted free agents is a bit much, IMO. Undrafted free agents are such because they're either raw or lacking in some essential qualities. They tend to get put on the Practice squad because they need the development. If one wants to argue that Philbin seems a little conservative with playing time for rookies, that's fine. But much more often than not your late round draft picks and undrafted free agents need to sit and develop if they're worth keeping at all, and those that have a chance to break through usually need to show something quickly. I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility to think the coaching staff isn't giving Larsen the opportunity to win the starting position at center simply because they haven't seen nearly enough evidence that would indicate he's ready to do so.

Hmm, wonder if he can prescribe himself his own pain pills?

Mr C, believe Shelby was here before Philbin? Coach Joe is more about Vets, not first yr players.

Smith still at Center, which knowing ol Joe, is no surprise. I'm wondering if Philbin's ceiling is Wanny

It looks like they have started to give Gardner 1st team reps. He was getting them for the 2 minute drill in 11v11.

If they're unsure of the Center position, just go sign Satele and move Smith back to OG where he's comfortable. Might as well fortify guard.

Turner got also in for Thomas, Jenkins came in for Ellerbe, Wheeler got pulled for Tripp, so to make anyhing out of this is a little early

I think there is something to it. Smith said he was expecting to be pulled. So, in that sense, I don't think we need to make anything of it.
However, if Gardner is already taking reps from a guy that's never played the position that means something.

So far, I'd say this experiment is failing on all fronts. We can wait to see with the first preseason game, but it's not promising.

With Brenner hurt, it makes sense to give Gardner first team reps.

All I know is that the center position needs to be strong because week 1 there will be a 340 lb Vince Wilfork on the other side ready to cause havoc after missing most of last season.

It's really not that complicated, just know your assignments and either punish or protect..most of it is instinct..

If you can't get the snap down though it messes with the qbs confidence..

Perhaps you can override your auto-correct, and use the actual spelling? I know my android makes suggestions, but if I am paying attention, I can change anything that it tries to put in a text.

I dunno, I am just a humble fan, and quite elderly, but IMO an interior trio of Colledge-Satele-Smith would be more comforting than a trio of Colledge-Smith-Thomas.

I guess I could. Is it that big of a deal really?

One of the main intersections near my train is Gardner, so that's probably why it goes immediately to that.

For me personally, if I were in your situation, it would be. I am totally anal about spelling the names correctly.

So is it just me or wouldn't it be prudent for the Fins to bring in another center free agent now while camp is still relatively early on?

I don't see any downsides other than a bit more cap space used - but it's not as though it wouldn't be cap space well used.

1 - There might not be any legendary centers available but as long as it's an upgrade on the guys we have now then that is a move with gives us depth and an immediate improvement at the spot.
2 - The fact that we're struggling to pick a center right now - or didn't have a solid back up waiting - shows we lack depth at that area.
3 - Moving a player from their normal spot to the center spot steals depth from that other spot. Bringing in a true center permits us to move players back to their normal spots retaining depth there - so that's 2x depth gain really.
4 - The whole point of depth -> God forbid we see our 'backup' center get injured, what happens?
5 - Doing it now rather than later means that our new O-line has more chance to gel, and the fact that that's happening in general means this is an opportunity to get someone in.

So - yeah - what's the major reason for not doing it?

I think Hicky has contacted Satele's agent and they know what's going on. Benton hinted that they would practice/play through the first preseason game, then make a move at that point on the Center position. Perhaps we received a glimpse yesterday when Garner was taking snaps with the first team (after a number of poor snaps by Smith). No word on what Larsen is doing (UDFA i believe), some had hopes that he would get a call up to at least the 2nd teamers. Perhaps Brenner's injury isn't as bad as suspected... Miami has 1 pro-bowl C, Garner played C last year, Brenner and Smith practicing, and a rookie C. It's not as-if no one is there, however the C-QB exchange is rather important to the play.

For me it's not that we don't have players who can try to step in, it's that we don't have one single player who is our go-to backup. Anyone else is depth we're pulling from other positions and who can't do a satisfactory job. I say cannot do a satisfactory job because if someone could then there wouldn't have to be all this juggling around. Garner is the best at it IMO although the fact that Smith was given the first reps seems to show that they weren't satisfied with Garner at C. This is especially vital, IMO, when you're trying to solidify a starting line.

And I'm anal about people getting up in arms about the most trivial of things. To each their own I guess.

I know this is unconventional, but how about putting a center at center? Sounds crazy, but it might work.

I guess it depends what one considers trivial, and whether merely mentioning a name spelling constitutes getting up in arms.

All centers can play guard but not all guards can play center. :shifty:
