All of you arguing against national hatred towards Miami sports, should have seen the diarrhea just spewed by Wilbon and Witlock in PTI about Miami and their fans. Lebron's gone, the hate remains.
What he say now? BTW, Pat Riley just did a interview..and basically vowed that he will DIE in OFFICE if that is what it takes to win another championship here.
Making fun of Miami fans with the usual excrementitious narrative. It is as sickening as it is inaccurate, specially coming from supposed professionals. Talking about the reported Christmas day game between the Cavs and the Heat, Wilbon went on to prove that diarrhea can indeed flow from a human mouth by saying, and paraphrasing: "I hope it is in Clevaland. Now that Lebron is gone Miami fans will go back to not caring about basketball. They won't even know the game was played. They'll find out afterwards and say "oh, there was a game today." Or if they show up, they'll be late and leave with 6 minutes remaining even if the score is tied" Witlock shimmed in with his ratty laugh and said "or they'll spend the whole time arguing if Marino is better than Montana" I mean, is this an ESPN flagship show? What kind of TV trash is this?
According to Lebatard, somebody on the morning show had the idea to fly a banner. His show called some Cleveland ad guy to get a quote about that for his show. This turned into Cleveland articles and quotes from two Cleveland papers about how Lebatard offered a bunch of money to take out ads, but the papers refused (protecting Cleveland or Lebron, I'm not sure which). On twitter there's some photoshop of the alleged ad with pictures of the rings Lebron won in Miami and the text saying "Your Welcome". Lebatard says none of that ever happened. He never created and ad or tried to run one. He does seem happy about all the publicity this has generated.
The idea was to place a full page ad in the CPD. Lebby called to see how much it would be and it mushroomed from there. Now, Lebby is vowing that he is gonna do something because the Ad guy pissed him off.
After reading that interview Riley had with reporters it looks like Riley got blindsided by Lebron. Riley was selling to free agents the premise that Lebron was returning. In Vegas it seems like Riley was making free agent suggestions to Lebron and Lebron never stopped him from planning. Riley said he was "shocked" Lebron either had no idea what he was deciding on or was playing Riley like a fool. It would seem the later because I think Lebron is a calculating, smart kinda guy. You guys still don;t think we are hated? Just listened to the clip on PTI from Mike Wilbon. Next time you want to argue that we are not hated...go listen to that BS.
I literally cannot watch BSPN any longer, it is just..****..there is no other way to describe it. Used to enjoy Jalen Rose's take on the league, now.. Riley pointed out, correctly, that Wade sublimated his game to LeBron, the things he used to do James took over when he came to Miami..now there is a good topic of conversation for BSPN...nope..sounds like the opening promos for "Wrestlemania XXII" We all are NFL fans here, compare commentary on everything from players to teams to divisions to how the NBA is covered
I think the argument got crossed - I was arguing Miami being hated as a city. At least relative to what Cleveland hears. Your sports fans are certainly torn apart without much good reason. Meanwhile Cleveland's are propped up for some reason (die-hard, though pretty unintelligent football fans - casual fans could care less about Cavs or Tribe.)
Riley said his biggest disappointment regarding the whole thing was not being able to build a "generational team" and that "chain was broken prematurely" It's that kind of thing why I'm so adamant that LeBron's number not be retired, and after hearing from Pat and Micky the last few days I guarantee it won't be retired while wither of them are still around. We had a real chance to go to 6 or 7 straight Finals, and if we added a superstar in 2016 to replace Wade, maybe even more than that. One guy decided he didn't want to do that, whatever reason. That's his right of course, but he has broken the bond. Lost the attendant privileges as well.
Riley also admitted that LeBron never particularly encouraged him about staying, never returned any of his phone calls, texts or emails (which should have been a rather huge hint, IMO) and basically didn't really comment when Riley told him that he was going to approach free agents with the pitch of playing with LeBron. As awesome as Pat Riley is, the picture he himself just painted based on what happened is one where he should have known this was coming and he didn't simply because he really wanted that generational team that badly. And I get absolutely no feel from Arison or Riley that suggests that LeBron's number will never hang in the rafters. The Big 3 era, even if it was short, has probably been the most important era in Miami Heat franchise history. All three of them will go up.
It's easy to say that Riley should have known something was up, but even if he did, what exactly was he supposed to do differently? LeBron completely tied the organization's hands. We couldn't move on without knowing for sure. We couldn't make commitments and then have LeBron go "I'm back, where's that max contract?" So whether Riley knew or should have known really makes no difference. He had no choice but to operate as if LJ was coming back. And this all goes back to Bron's character (or lack thereof) where it comes to basic business ethics and etiquette. And I don't know how Micky's statement regarding "Heat Lifers" and Riley's interview talking about the "bonds of a generational team being broken prematurely" and think that they're not pissed. They are. Maybe ten years from now, they'll be over it, but I guarantee if you asked either privately, off the record, today, whether or not the Bron's number would be retired the answer would be no.
Then you are gonna hate us for a while, because Pat Riley is pissed off and is preparing to wreck the league in 16' You know we are on a collision course...right Boik? Your "bought" Free Agents vs. Ours in 16'. Ready? I am.
The question comes up..so here it is.. What would have happened differently had Lebron told Riley he wasn't coming back on July 1st? Well, simply put, Him dragging it out probably cost us another near all-star caliber player, and a earnest run at Carmelo Anthony. Just temporary damage, but damage nonetheless.
Yeah, even if we didn't sign Melo, we might have decided to put an offer sheet out for Monroe or Bledsoe. We also certainly would have made a bid on Lowry.
The very best analyst in X's and O's for the Miami Heat strikes again with another great piece: http://www.nba.com/heat/newsrecap/new-heat Enjoy.
I don't know what /R/NBA is or the methodology, but assuming it's a reasonably objective measure those maps pretty much show that Heat hate is not just some fan imagined slight and that anybody pretending Heat hate isn't real are either intentionally or unintentionally being obliviously ignorant.
When Lebron announced his move, Riley called Melo's people but was already late to the party. I think Melo had made up his mind unofficially though.
Lebron may be the type who doesn't return calls or emails on a regular basis to friends or the team during the season/offseaon. It could be just how he is. Riley operates like that is just normal and is steady as she goes. Lebron may be the type who only calls back if there is something important to say so Riley may have been shocked that he wasn't contacted about the change of heart. It sounds Lebron did something out of ordinary to keep it to himself.
/r/NBA is the subforum on Reddit devoted to the NBA. /r/space would be the subforum devoted to outer space, /r/apple would be devoted to Apple, etc. The "r" means "sub-Reddit", as in "a subforum of Reddit." The term comes from the URL structure of Reddit: reddit.com/r/nba Convenient /r/NBA link.
He definitely screwed us because that late in the game Riley was scrambling. Had LeBron told the Heat earlier, I would almost guarantee they would have been able to sell Bosh on a team of more talent that would have got him to take less than the max. They almost certainly would have made a run at Lowry, maybe taken a stab at a RFA like Monroe or Bledsoe. They would have also had a crack at Melo. At the end of the day, they still might be in better position than they would have, especially with Melo. A team with other all-stars almost certainly would have crowded our cap space in 2016. As it stands we have lots of tradable assets on short deals and will have tons of room in 2016. While what LeBron did hurt us, I still like where we're at right now.
Yeah there were reports Melo was trying to contact Lebron all offseason and he wouldn't return the calls. Lebron is a weird guy.
I only said Heat hate was not near its current level prior to the Big 3. Since 2010 I don't doubt they are the most hated team in general.
In sports when people hate you, you're either doing something great or something terribly bad. Considering our sustained success I'd say we've done something right to be disliked so much.
I do agree that it has increased since the Big 3, but it also increased with the arrival of Riley. I think that's what many non-Heat fans here didn't see.
Not denying the Heat are hated - but I'm not sure I trust the methodology of something that doesn't understand the difference in a country and a continent - or that Alaska isn't either. And that also uses two different logos for the exact same team to show their data. This thing is a disaster.
I'm just curious about how the Houston Rockets are the most "hated" team in Asia. It's been my understanding that they're by far the most popular NBA team in China.
Why would the Thunder be hated in Africa? Just an odd map. The state specific one is funny. Poor Washington alone in their Thunder hate
