Jonathan Martin did start how many games at Stanford ? 35 ??? and left a year early so he would have come close to that amount as well, so basically this number means nothing

How is he not going to have a fair shot? Chances are he will play at least two quarters in the first preseason game. They have tape on him practicing against the not ready for primetime players.

So far Damian Williams(RB) has been called up by showing something extra. Plus Gator Hoskins has been given props.

Probably would have still ended up with Hickey with everything pretty much going the same.

Only difference I could see really was Jarvis Landry probably would have not been the second round pick, unless Hickey was just in love with him.

I'll admit i thought Martin was a great value in the 2nd round, even though i hated he only did 20 bench reps at his pro day (red flag #1). I hate weak offensive linemen, period. I've made that well known in the draft forums. No scout listed him as mentally weak though. That's what killed him.
I don't think anyone would call Larsen weak (the most reps of any Olineman this year - 36). His last 2 years in college he had 111 pancake blocks and graded out over 86% on blocking.

One other thing about Brenner, not looking at the injury, but he didn't play Center in college, so his experience was whatever he got with the Dolphins last year. Not exactly a large body of work either.

A couple of years ago, a forget the guy's name, but they called him 7-11 (because he always was open) and he was the best looking receiver in preseason. Philbin and crew cut him. Like i said, sometimes when you go undrafted you won't get a chance no matter what you do in preseason.

He was terrible in preseason games and disappeared in practice once pads came on. Chris Hogan was his name.

didn't sam longo did the most bench press, who is also on our roster...lol, but anyways you are right, i also hate weak lineman, i guess we just have to wait and see, i think if there is a change it will come after the first preseason game or smith really must **** the bed the next few days to get demoted, imo

Sure. When it comes to the offensive line, i go with experience. I don't like moving guys around. You have a defined role. You know your job. When your number is called, you have no excuse.

If i had an all conference guard, he wouldn't be moved over to replace my injured center. It weakens the team more. Now, i have 2 backups in instead of 1. I would have already had this planned out prior to offseason camp. The backup center's number would be called.

And he was a riser when he was on the Dolphins.

Problem was, he didn't get to the point where he was good. He did nothing last year for the Bills.

He wouldn't be able to unseat, Gibson, Landry or Mathews for the slot position as a Dolphin.

Bills writer's tweet about Hogan today....
It's the same things players were saying about him here when Hard Knocks was on. An undrafted rookie getting a nickname from his teammates...unheard of. The problem: He was undrafted and coaches didn't want to give him a fair shot over Nanee and those other scrubs. Now, Buffalo has given him a shot and we're going to have to see him this year. I just hope Larsen gets a fair shot. I'd hate for another team to grab him and he become a good starter.

Surprised the Fins haven't tried to add depth there. It's not like they've got OL depth in spades.

That is two years down the road.

The problem wasn't that he was undrafted. The problem was he wasn't very good in pads.

I will believe it when I see it in a game. He was fine as a practice player, however once the game started, he was worse than Marlon Moore.

They signed him on their practice squad in November, saw his obvious talent, and promoted him to the active roster a month later. They gave him a shot. It took Buffalo a month to see he was good enough. We chose Nanee and some scrubs, who aren't starting anywhere now, over him.

Miami gave him a shot as well. He was worse than Nanee. Hogan isn't starting yet. He still has to prove himself in preseason. Plus that was two years ago. He did nothing the Hard Knock season and did nothing last season. Finally this season he is going to show something?

So far this year, Damion Williams has been promoted and given a shot with the starters and Gator has been pumped up by coaches. I don't see any evidence of not giving a undrafted free agent a shot.

I would bet Philbin will throw them on the practice squad just like they did to Hogan if they are any good. That's his history here. How many undrafted free agents that we picked up have actually made the active roster since Philbin has been here? The only one that comes to mind is Kovacs. As a Wolverines fan, i must say he should have been drafted in the first place.

It took a torn ACL and an illness for him to make an active roster. He was a practice squad guy until we had no other options.

I do not agree. Naanee did nothing at all in the preseason games. Hogan had a few catches. Cutting him to keep Naanee was foolish.
Correction: They each had 4 catches in preseason.

And i'm sure Naanee had more snaps. So if everything was fair, Hogan should have made the team if Naanee did.

Hogan also had a few drops and was terrible at getting separation.

I was a pretty big fan of him at the time. I was really hoping he would show something. He is a really good athlete. Fast, quick and very strong. 22 bench presses of 225 for a wide receiver is a lot.

He had 3 catches in the 2nd preseason game against Carolina, then as I recall did not play an offensive snap in the 3rd preseason game, which seemed to surprise many of us here talking about it, because it looked like game 2 was a sign of him starting to awaken.

Naanee played the first 4 games of 2012 and had one catch in 5 targets in 73 passing play snaps. Remember that fumble against Arizona where after he finally made his one catch, he just seemed to hand the ball to a Cards defender? He was cut after that game, and has never been on an NFL roster again that I know of.

It was poor roster management to cut him, and to cut Clyde Gates too for that matter, to keep Naanee. I cannot ever remember a worse WR being an opening day starter in the history of the Dolphins.

He was a practice squad player until Misi went on IR. Again, another guy who was waived then signed to the practice squad. Took an injury for him to get on active roster.

My bad, Kovacs was a practice squad guy too. So basically if you're an undrafted free agent that Philbin picks up, you'll get no better than practice squad no matter what you do in preseason. You just have to hope someone gets hurt.

I like the idea of giving Larsen a serious look too...
But lets be honest here. No way Philbin is giving an undrafted free agent the slightest sniff of first team reps... I'm happy if even gives the blue chip draft picks a look.

To me, the Smith at Center attempt is Lazor being determined not to alter his offense to fit what will work at Center

    IE, Nate Garner

They have visions of this ultra mobile OL , something Garner is NOT

If that is the case then they should go with Satele rather than try Smith into a hole he probably is not suited for, if they stick with it, a Philbin err "trademark" no one should be surprised at what will happen
