Williams is optimistic to return this season, but I would be very surprised if he did. :theu:

I'm just so glad to leave the Coker/Shannon era behind, both literally and sartorially. A clean, definitive break with the past is welcome.

With the starting QB down and with the :theu: recruiting so poorly at the position, I'm afraid the season is in jeopardy months before it even begins, though.

I really like the alternate orange helmets, I wouldn't mind getting one of those to display during football season with my standard UM helmet. :theu:

Nice arm, sweet touch on the fade. 2016 is a long way off, though.

While I never got to do more than shake his hand in high school, it will be odd to see Lamar Thomas on an opposing sideline in the first game. He's always been a Miami Hurricane to me. I remember him talking to the local newspaper, the "Gainesville Sun," about how happy he was to be a Miami Hurricane. Him and another local guy, the well known Clinton Portis (many years later, of course) both went to Miami. Clinton went to Gainesville High School, while Lamar went to Buchholz High, as I did too.

Brad Kaaya was named the starting qb today. "CORAL GABLES — The Hurricanes have decided to give the highly-touted young quarterback a chance.

When Miami opens its season Monday at Louisville, true freshman Brad Kaaya will be under center as the Hurricanes starting quarterback after he beat out Kansas transfer Jake Heaps for the job.

Kaaya will be the first true freshman to start at quarterback for the Hurricanes since Jacory Harris did the same in 2008. Miami went 7-6 that year.

Both Heaps and Kaaya were listed as co-starters on the initial depth chart released by Miami coach Al Golden during training camp and both have earned praise from teammates and coaches throughout.

But the 18-year-old former standout at Chaminade in West Hills, California ultimately did enough to distance himself and earn the starting nod.

Kaaya, a Semper Fidelis All-American, was a first-team California Division II All-State pick and was the Los Angeles Daily News All-Area Player of the Year last season. He was 23-3 as a starter at Chaminade and threw for a school-record 3,855 yards and 27 touchdowns as a senior. He finished his high school career with 5,730 yards and 40 touchdowns in two seasons.

Kaaya arrived at Miami in May and immersed himself in the Hurricanes’ playbook, something Miami coach Al Golden noted made a difference in the freshman’s adjustment through the first weeks of camp."

Well Ill be excited to see the young guy play this season. Let's hope he can stay healthy, gain experience and lean on the run game and a good WR core.

Anyone have any best/worst case scenarios for this year? Any chance we win our opener with the freshman?

If Duke kills it, and we control the ball, gotta win the TO battle.

Man how great would it be if Kaaya just goes out and looks the part. I'm not talking some 300 yard game, but just poised and accurate making the right decisions relative to his experience.

A few hours left. Hopefully a few people get active in the thread for the game. Thinhs to be excited about:

    1) Our defense may not be swiss cheese this year gor the first time in a while.

    2) Our skill positions led by Duke and Coley. So much talent there.

    3) Freshman QB with real talent.

Defense still looks like swiss cheese. Partly scheme and partly lacking talent.

Worst DC in Cane history quite possibly. Not only is the scheme so vanilla, he doesn't have the athletes up front to run it or the players coached very well fundamentally. Its hard to watch.

They don't coach at Miami. "We are going to have 3-4 zone defense and allow our talent to take over." We'll if it was that easy everyone would do it. It's HS level approach to football.

That was a terrible but in all fairness the receiver still has to catch that. It hit him in the chest as he went to a knee it wasn't impossible to just catch and take the loss.
