So... Tannehill competed 33% of his deep passes today. What's the league average completion rate on such a pass?

When they're wide open, you'd better hit them.

This is my thought as well. When you have the best deep threat in the League you should probably be completing a higher percentage than most other QBs.

But still...these damn Phins media guys jump for narrative joy when a deep ball to Wallace hits the ground. It's pretty ridiculous. And obvious as hell.

When they're wide open in practice yeah you should have a high percentage (even though it is early).

When the bullets start flying for real it gets much harder ;)

His deep ball accuracy is definitely a problem. He apparently has the character and drive, etc, to work on it, but it's certainly a concern. Just being honest.

So its no problem that Wallace wasn't there working with Tannehill in the off season because there was still plenty of time to practice during training camp, bbbbbuuuuuuttttttt Wallace and Tannehill not connecting on 2 of 3 deep passes during the first TC practice is Tannehill's fault?

Enemas. You people need enemas. Big & uncomfortable ones.

He didn't hit on another deep ball from a different WR as well. Stop the blame shifting.

Yea you absolutely are. Youre questing why its Tannehills fault they didnt hit on deep balls when Wallace didnt show up early to work on it.

I'm questioning why the same people that said it was ridiculous that some of us were upset that Wallace wasn't here working with everyone else because there was supposedly so much damn time to work on it in TC are now giving Tannehill all of 1 goddamn practice to fix the chemistry issues.

C'mon my man. I a big Tanne fan, but denying he has a problem with his deep ball accuracy is just living in denial and bringing up Wallace and the off-season has nothing to do with this. There's been several reports of Tanne still having trouble with the deep ball and not just to Wallace as stated in this piece. Everyone in the football world from professional to amateur knows and can see that Tanne has a problem with the deep ball. Tanne has stated such himself. Dude, there is just so much I like about Tanne and there are so many great aspects to his game, but he's certainly not perfect yet, right? That's going a bit far. I wish. That would be sweet and he has the potential. The deep ball is one aspect that prevents him from being such. I haven't lost confidence that it will get better, but it does have to get better. Simple.

Perhaps it's because they had all last season to fix the chemistry between them and couldn't. I agree Wallace should have been working out with Tannehill in the off season, but that doesn't preclude the fact that one of Tannehill's major problems since he came into the NFL is that he just isn't very accurate on his deep passes.

Perhaps that will improve this season, but until it does, Tannehill is the person who needs to fix it. Wallace did his job last year by consistently getting behind the secondary. It is up to Tannehill to get the ball to Wallace when he is several steps beyond the defender.

And I can't help but wonder if he and Wallace just aren't clicking for some ungraspable reason. He hit Williams on a deep one today...didn't see it to know exactly what happened, but he did catch it (diving, as it were).

That and/or does Tannehill just not have the sight/vision of the trajectory down? He has the strength, generally crazy accurate everywhere else, then again maybe its a confidence blocker.

Is it the kind of thing that's fixable by repetition?

Edit: That was why I was hoping Tannehill was working with a private coach in the off-season.

What is Tannehill's "deep pass" completion percentage when throwing to Hartline?

Perhaps Tennehill won't ever have a great deep ball. Shouldn't we be building the team around his strengths instead of his weaknesses? I don't like the idea of forcing him to do things he's not great at simply because we overpaid for Mike Wallace. Instead of making him sling the rock deep, get him moving more, get him on the run, let him use his feet, and surround him with guys who can get into open space instead of guys who can only get open 40 yards straight downfield.

The job of the coaching staff is to put the players in the best position to succeed.
That's been a problem for while here now. Let's hope they 'get it' by now.

While I don't disagree that the offense would be better if the offense was more geared to the strengths of Tannehill, which isn't throwing the deep ball. I just find it rather ridiculous that many on here are faulting the play of Wallace, who was signed primarily to open up the offense because of his ability to get open deep.

Wallace may not be a great fit for an offense with Tannehill as the QB, but there are many teams in the NFL with QB's who can throw a great deep ball, who I am sure would love to have Wallace as their #1 WR.
With his big contract, I don't anticipate him being with the Dolphins in 2015 but I think the problems between he and Tannehill in the passing game have more to do with Tannehill not being able to connect with Wallace on the throws down field, than it does with Wallace not being a quality WR in the NFL.

    Word up. :pointlol:

Bottom line; he just has to get better with he deep ball. For the most part, he's a West Coast marvel right now, but even with the West Coast you eventually, at times, have to hit the deep ball.

I'm so ****ing tired of "he can't hit the deep ball" bull****. When he's protected the team wins and he is very very good, the numbers and results last year showed it. I don't give a **** if he never completes another "deep ball" in his ****ing life. Hit players in stride and get them into position to make YAC. Win games.

Exactly, this is not "okay Tannehill, scramble for a 50 yd Td with 18 seconds left to go"

More "Okay Tannehill, Wallace is wiide open deep, just lead him 2 yds=Td"

It is not as if he is being asked to turn **** into sugar, and the OL was dreadful and Dr THill still made things happen, not enough good things, still, it is impossible to ignore his talent
